Hi folks... My church needs a new logo before we proceed with a new web site and literature.
Chelsea Bible Church is a small but growing nondenominational church in a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama. Our tagline is "A Family of Faith."
We are not a traditional (i.e. stuffy) church, but we're not exactly edgy either. Our area is one of the fastest growing areas in the state. Main demographic is 30s and 40s families with kids.
Design Suggestions:
1. I'd like to focus on the concept of family (but please, no "Fisher Price" looking family pics.
2. Abstract is ok
3. Using Bible or cross is OK, but they shouldn't be old fashioned.
4. Design should be vector art and look good in black and white as well as color.
5. Design should use fonts in the Adobe Font Folio or those that can be sent to me at the end of the contest for use in other design projects.
6. (Added) I really like the logo here: http://www.atgrace.com
Any questions? Just ask. I'll be checking in regularly.
Thanks!
Nathan Ingram
Hi Nathan,
What is the dealine for your project? We advise 7 to 10 days. Please let me know and I will make the update to your project title. Thank you

10 days is fine. I'm not in a huge rush, but would like something in place in a couple of weeks. I'd rather wait and get good submissions than rush it and cut people off.
Thanks!
Nathan
Thank you I have made the update.

Hi Brilliantnm:)
I really focused on the tag line......I choose one color as well....:)

Tini... Thanks for the submission. I love the font. The logo itself is a good design, but it feels more appropriate for something like a Christian day care rather than a church. It seems a little too whimsical to me. Not bad at all, just not a good fit for us.

Tini...
Thanks again for the design. Solid design work, but still not on the nose. You definately have a good eye for balance though!
Below is link to a site with a logo that I like.
http://www.atgrace.com
For ours, maybe an open stylized Bible that has the same feel as this cross? With 3 lines of text... Chelsea / Bible / Church. Chelsea and Church would be a script like the example, Bible would be the all caps serif. Line underneath with "A Family of Faith."
Just a jumping off point... Thanks!

Here is my submision. I tried to use the element of a cross with the motives of people with open arms...

Dragan... That logo looks great! I absolutely LOVE the script!!! And I like the logo concept of the people and the cross.
Can we try changing the angle where the neck would be on the "people" to a curve rather than a "v"?
Also... Can we experiment a little with the Verdana-ish Chelsea Bible Church font? I love the serifed look of the logo at http://www.atgrace.com. It's a different font than I've seen before. Kinda Perpetua titling-esque and kinda like Felix Titling, but not.
Great submission, thanks!!!

Hio Brilliantnm:)
Thanks for you feedback...
I tried following your directives, I changed a bit, I came up w/slight variations, mainly the fonts(its really difficult to mix a serif w/script, for me).......thanks :D

Hi folks...
Dragan... I love your design... but the feedback I have gotten from others suggests they see something I did not: the German Nazi cross logo from World War 2 (not the swastika, but the one they placed on aircraft: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Czarny_krzyz_balkanski_Luftwaffe_1935-38.png). Odd, I know... but 3 out of 4 people I asked saw that. So, we're back to the drawing board.
Tini... thanks for the submissions. I like the script, but I like the one Dragan used even more... the swashes are awesome! What is that font??
I'm going to add prize money and promote this contest to the regular forum. Please continue to contribute!
Thanks!
Nathan
Project Update: More funds have been added to make the amount $125 and the project has been moved to the Logo Forum.

Hello
Here is my new work. I was going towards very simple presentation of the cross, as it is the most important symbol in the Christianity (in my opinion), so I did not want to make it complicated... Hope you won't feel it is too simple :)

Dragan...
I still love the script... but the cross design is too simple for the logo.
Thanks.

Thanks everyone for the good responses yesterday and today! Here is some feedback.
MOD - Let's extend the contest another week. I'm not sure we're there yet.
Virgil:
The cross seems a little too much like a star I think. The font is close, but looks a little too ordinary. Jennifer's is a little more distinctive.
Jennifer:
Great design. We like it alot. Nice colord. Great serif font. Script is nice. Do you have something with swashes like Dragan's above? I've got to find his font! :) Love those swashes!
Medigraph:
The cross is not bad... but I really don't like the people (that's the kind of Fisher Price people I mentioned in the initial post). The script is not bad, but not out of the park. Also, the design seems to be off balance to me. I think it might be the slogan running under the whole thing. I'm not sure. See note on colors below.
NHR:
I like the colors and that serif font, and the script's not bad either. Maybe a little too curly. The logo is imaginative... but people I've asked have struggled to focus it in as a cross. Seems like 4 stealth bombers on a collision course. :) Maybe if they tightened up? That might kill the design though.
CONCERNING COLORS:
The church does not have a brand identity yet. But for a jumping off point... think earth tones. Not dark and drab, but rich. We like the browns in Jennifer's design much better than the blue and green in Medigraph's... but we also like the neutrals in NHRs design too.

Great design. Nice balance. The CHELSEA font is not bad... but not quite spot on.
NHR
The shading in the middle makes a difference. We like the design in message 33 better than the one in message 32... although we can't seem to articulate why. :) We do like the script!
ANYONE ELSE PLANNING TO HAVE A GO AT THIS ONE?
Thanks!

Thanks all for the great submissions. I'm sorry for the delay. It took a little while to get a cross section of opinions about the submissions.
We're ready to declare that the winner is Jennifer Johnson's design on Message #27.
Thanks again everyone. Jennifer, please PM me so we can do some final color adjustments.
