I want is a logo for a new product we will release soon. The product is a piece of software for cataloguing digital photos.


What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
I would like two variations of the logo, one that says "PixFiler" and one that says "PixFiler Pro".
Only the text should be different.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I want a logo that draws the thought to photography, databases, or catalogs/archives. Not easy to explain,
but you guys have surprised me before, do it again. I don't think I want any cameras or apperture
symbols as they are already used by too many.

What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

An easy way to catalogue your photos

(I'm not sure this should be a part of the logo.)

I'm sorry it takes some time for us to provide feedback. That's because we print each design, put them on the wall, and we need some time to look at them. First impression is not always the right impression.

Thank you very much for your submissions. This is great. I have studied your submissions and I have a couple of general comments that I see now. Looking at our current web-design and company logo (which is green and grey), I think the best colors for the product logo is black, grey, green, orange/yellow, and red. Keep in mind that the logo will be shown together with our company logo, especially on the CD labels they will be displayed quite close together. It would be nice if the green color you use do match the green color of our company logo (PMS 370).

So my comments to each designer:

Bojan: I like your general idea very much but I'm not too keen on your choice of colors. I would also like to see some other text font.

Gig: Version 2 is best. I like the font you're using, but not the colors. See my general comments about colors above. There is also a typo; It's PixFiler, not PixFiller (no big deal at this stage).

VERTLIME: Very nice looking logo, but I think it's too close to the company logo. I'm afraid it will look strange if I put both on the same CD label. I would also like a different icon in front of the text. I suppose you want to symbolize photos, but I'm not sure that would be clear to a causual viewer.

Ruairi: I'm not too keen on the mirror effect (my marketing manager liked it). Also see may general comment about colors. What I really did like is the way you worked the word "Pro" into the design. I would like a larger font but I like the way you make the word Pro stand out from the rest of the logo. I'm not sure about the icon. If you have some other ideas for the icon, I would like to see them.

Medigraph: I like both of these versions, but I think version 2.0 is the best. I will be back with more comments when I have had time to look more at this design and discuss it with some other people here in the office. My first impression is that the word "PRO" should stand out more in version 2.0. In version 1.0, the text has too many colors.

Once again, thank you for your submissions. Here are our feedback. As it is now only five days left, we will try to give quicker feedback on your designs.


Vertlime: I don't think the icon works very well. The shades of red/brown are to close. Doesn't look too bad on the screen, but not very nice on the printer. I'm also a little uncertain about the red color. Could you try to put a little more yellow in it (I think the orange color in your logo is nice). I'm also a little uncertain about the camera in the icon, but it might look better with another color. If you have another suggestion for the icon, I would very much like to see it.


Gig: I think this is very nice, but I feel it's too close to our company logo. Remember they will be used on the same page. However, I like your general idea. I suppose this might be a bit frustrating; first the color was wrong, then I suggest using the green of the company logo and then it get to close. Could I suggest to make the text black and then put more color on the icon?

Medigraph: I think your version 2.1 is very nice. However, I think the character spacing is to large. The spacing is almost as wide as the characters and this makes it harder to read. Strangely enough, this has notthing in common with our company logo, but they are so different that I think they will go together well. Could you also show me a more horizontal version of this where you move the icon in front of the text?

Thank you all very much. This isn't easy. Many of your submissions starts to get very good and it will not be easy to choose the best one. Here are my comments:


Medigraph: (version 2.2) Very nice. Could you try to move the text closer to the icon? I would also like to see the text aligned with the lower edge of the icon.

J.Johnson: (version 1) Very interesting. This is quite different from the other submissions, but I like it. Could you try to change to blue color to shades of green (PMS 370). I also think the line in the F is a little too long. Is it possible to make this shorter?

Ruairi: (Version 04) This is starting to look good. May be making the text a little less bold would make it look "cleaner".

Castell: (Version 01) Interesting icon. I would very much like to see a version that uses shades of green in stead of blue, preferably PMS 370. Add some more yellow to the red. Use the green in PIX and see if FILER works with balck.

Unorthodox: (Version 1) I like the way you have worked the P and F into the icon. The fonts are nice but I'm not too sure about the shade of green you have choosen. Could you try PMS 370?

gig: (version 2c) I like this version much better. Could you try to make the orange a little more saturated.


Bojan: Good to see you back. I was afraid you didn't want to submit more designs and I liked you first submission (version 2). I'm not too keen on the icon of version 3. It can be mistaken for a deck of cards. But I really like the font you're using. In version 4 I like the icon but I'm reather neutral about the font. It's ok but nothing more. May be they can be combined. Icon from version 4 and text from version 3? Will it work to put the file/folder-icon in front of the text? This will probably require some adjustments to the colors, but I'm sure you can work something out. PMS 370 is a color I like to see.

I look forward to see your updated submissions. I will start watching this site more closely now and provide feedback as soon as possible.

Thank you all. I'm impressed. I do now feel we have the material we need to make a decision. This will not be easy. We have at least four favourites. We will now take a couple of days to discuss the different designs and will will make a decision by friday.

This was a tough one. We have discussed this back and forth. I think all of your final submissions have been very good. To agree upon which was the very best was impossible. Unfortunately, we have to choose. We have decided we would like to go on working with Gig.

I would like to thank you all for the work you have done. I would very much like to see your suggestions again next time our company wants a new logo/design.

Gig: We think version 2d-3 is the one of yours submissions we like best. Do you think you could show us a pro version of this? We would like to see two variations of this:

1) The word pro in black letters above the 'er'.
2) The word pro in white letters on black oval background. Same position.

The 'normal' version logo seems to be pretty close to what we want.

This looks good. I like the first one best (PRO in black letters). Please send me the files. I need EPS and PSD files of both variations of the logo (non-pro and pro). The files should be pretty big because I will also use this logo for printing. It's also easier to resize down than to resize up. The PSD file would need to be 2400 pixels in length. Background should be on a separate layer so it can be easily be removed. Please email the files to: info@br-softweare.com
