Hi All!

After getting great results on a couple of EXCELLENT logos for some nonprofits I work with, I've decided to remake my own logo for my business. Currently, I am only using the business name with a little treatment on the type. You can see the current logo at http://www.brilliantly.net. Please note that I am NOT married to any part of the current logotype at all. Use any part of it or none of it.

You can also read all about what I do on my website... but here's an executive summary. I am a web and graphic designer. Probably 80% of the work I do is web-related with 20% print. As I've explained in other contests, I can hold my own with print and web design pretty well... but I absolutely STINK at logo design. When I do it, it takes me forever and it's not nearly as good as the work I've seen some of you do.

So on to the logo itself. Here are the parameters...

1. Should be vectored art
2. Should work well with the Pantone 185 red and black designs I use in my current media - but it does not have to BE these colors.
3. Should work on business cards, letterhead, invoices, and websites
4. Should work in your original design colors as well as 1 color. You can even design for a 4 color process if you want... but in the end it has to work in 1 color too.
5. Should have either a whimsical feel or a techie feel... I haven't decided which way to go yet.

As far as a jumping off place... I started piddling around with a propeller-head cap (Like This (http://www.hatsinthebelfry.com/page/H/PROD/Hc/0,Costume+Hats+11)). Also, I've been using the tagline "communicate.smart" for a while now. If you can work that in, that would be great. If not, no biggie. Past that, I'm not sure what else to give you to get started.

Prize is 75 smackeroos... Deadline needs to be fairly soon (this Wednesday, July 16). I'm developing a new promo brochure for the business that needs to be finished in the very near future... and the new logo will hold center stage.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the creative geniuses here at work. If I've left anything out, just post. I'll be watching this thread closely.

Thanks! :D

Hi Ed!

I understand where you're going with the star idea, but it's a little too "magic kingdom" for me. :P

I like the second logo best... but the font is not right. The reason this logo appeals to me is the eye. I need to have a mark like this that I can pull out of the logo and use standalone as a symbol for the business. At the bottom of the web pages I design, I always link back to my site with the tag line: "A Brilliant Design." I'd like to include a small version of this mark at the beginning of the tag line.

Any thoughts on the propeller head?

Ondarox...

I like the sunburst. Something like this was what I had in mind for the standalone symbol. However, I don't like the font for Brilliant at all. Too "57 Chevy." Needs to be either totally whimsical or totally tech. I like the NEW MEDIA font.

No propeller heads out there?

I'm liking the propeller heads! But if they're going to be used, I think the font needs to be whimsical rather than plain.

ElKootcho - could you enlarge your hat so I can see it in a little more detail?

Taldo - I like your hat... especially the way the colors don't quite fill in the areas... try a new font...

Just_G - WOW... I like it!!! Very classy! Forget the newbie designation. Now let's try a few different fonts on "Brilliant" ... the new media part is fine. Maybe also try moving new media to the right site rather than the left.

Ondarox... sorry dude... missed the lightbulb  Now I see it. I like your newest design... let's try a different font.

Taldo and ElKootcho... I like the propeller heads. Let's try to make it integrate a little more with the text so that they're not so separate. ElK... for whatever reason, the beanie on Brilliant's B just didn't strike me well. Maybe something else??

Thanks all! These are GREAT submissions so far!

His original design has gotten so many great comments from co-workers and customers, that I'm going with that one! What a great logo.

Thanks Just_G... and congrats.
