$225 logo for new company concept to help build communities, reduce commute necessity, foster local economies.
Co. Name Neighborhood Work Space
Concept:
Business Neighborhood Work Space will match local businesses that have extra space in their offices with individuals who want to rent that space for short, irregular periods of time on an hourly basis. Initial users will be commuters, but later this could expand to people who just need a quiet place away from the home office, volunteers who want an official office for their local club, or other uses.
Application
Logo will be used primarily for website. Later applications will include basic print materials (brochure, business papers). Must use at least one color other than b/w; may use 4-color.
Deadline 31 March 2006.
Elements
Logo should reflect some of the following terms: business, home, commuting, sharing, electronic access, community, neighborhood. The company initials (NWS) may be a problem because “NW” may be interpreted as “Northwest”; although we are starting in the Northwest we do not want a logo that constrains us to this area. Logo must include company name (as written above) as part of the application. We will select type font later but feel FREE to give suggestions.
Design should be square, 1” x 1” (exclusive of the company name); however, we are open to a concept which is somewhat longer on the horizontal plane. Stylized graphics of people may be used, but our focus is more on relationships than individuals. We would be comfortable with a relatively simple design (e.g., Nike “swoosh”) but this would make it necessary for us – as a start-up – to have the company name be a stronger portion of the visual element. Feel should be “comfy” and friendly, reflecting not a hectic work place but a comfortable working environment. Hot bright colors probably won’t work well.
Other Logos
Many “neighborhood” logos have houses or hands in them. While not a negative, these tend to focus on the home/people aspect. We are trying to convey a sense of businesses and local residents sharing, while also communicating a sensed of economic vitality. The ubiquitous use of computer hardware in logos is too overused, yet one key element to this business concept is that the local office may have access to technological equipment or services that are too expensive or complicated for many residents. Last, since we eventually want this to go beyond merely commuters to others, the business aspect can be a main part, but should not be the only part.
Colors
No strong preferences, but must convey a sense of community. Harsh colors probably not useful, and logo components must visually be interconnected.
Type Fonts
Many “neighborhood” fonts are overly casual, but we also want to avoid any sans serif since that would be too formal
