View Full Version : [Project Complete] Seaford Transformers Logo - $100 Prize!
Hi guys... (Admin code added by Palmer - 708430S)
Make sure you read this post properly before you start.
1. I am not entering this competition.
My friend/partners business buddy is after a corporate logo. I originally had a fiddle with it but frankly the ideas just aren't coming to me.
The business name is Seaford Transformers Pty Ltd. The Pty Ltd does not have to be in the logo but it can be.
Now because Glenn is not really on the Internet often I will be managing the competition. However, I will actually be printing out the logos to show him and then I will relay his comments here.
Do's -
Each logo must be posted at at least 400 px wide so I can print it.
Logo MUST be designed in a scalable format. - It will be put into signage on the front of a building and also stationery etc...
Corporate style design
Don'ts -
No pinks, purples
No lightning strikes
No cartoony fonts or pictures
Other...
The name doesn't have to be the main logo. You could have some sort of shape, image etc.. with the name printed underneath.
You could possibly use the S T as the main logo with the name printed underneath, or just the S
Glenn is really not sure what it is that he wants - It was hard enough for me to try and find out what he 'doesn't' want. He just wants to see a logo and say 'Yep, that's the one' - so try and supply many different variations and ideas.
Prize Money is $100.
Time frame - I am going to say 3 weeks at this stage but due to the fact I will have to go back and forth to him I may need to extend the competition.
Good luck to you all.
I must ask... what kind of business is it? Where is it located (I'm guessing AUS)? How long has it been operating? Who is the target market?
All that helps build a good profile for a corperate logo :)
Don't worry if you don't know all of it, but some would help us.
Thanks Zoe :)
I just got asked the same type of questions by Robert... lol
Seaford Transformers designs and manufactures high end powerful transformers that for example run trains, large clorinators (spelling ?) for resort style swimming pools etc...
They are an australian firm. Prize money is in US dollars though.
Operation of business - quite a few years but I will check how long when I speak to him next.
Target market - hmmm..... people wanting big powerful transformers? Will get back to you on that.
dictionary meaning of transformer: a device employing the principle of mutual induction to convert variations of current in a primary circuit into variations of voltage and current in a secondary circuit.
My partner Jason had an idea of the word Seaford with wires/connections (may have to do some research) come from either side and joining to the transformer word. primary - secondary circuit?? just an idea thrown in there.
If there are any other questions.. fire away...
sorry guys - I am still waiting to get the money so I can start this contest. As soon as it comes through will be when the comp begins. But at least you are getting some time to think about it. :)

I think they were busy with the other ones and since the deadline is far away this one wasn't a priority. They'll probably start entering now.

actually I have a few ideas for the logo that I'll be posting tonight. I have been just a tad busy lately so that's why I haven't posted anything yet.

Zoe, I'm wondering if you have any pictures of the transformers they manufacture or do they have a web site that might better explain what they make? It might help the Design Team come up with some ideas.

Yes that would help a whole lot!
Gleen doesn't have a website at this stage.
Here are some links about how a transformer works. Glenn makes big transformers though.

I have one in the target size you requested, however it's too big (filesize) to post here, so I've put a sample up instead.
It includes the actual electronic symbol for a transformer. :)
Demex,
here's a new version. Please let me know what you think about it.

Thanks for the submissions so far guys - I printed out the logos submitted so far and sent them over to Glenn. I have also sent him the URL so he may also drop by if he has a chance.

Thanks for your entries so far everyone - I have spoken to Glenn and there are a few he likes so far.
He will be coming over in a few days to respond to the posts. If you have any other ideas you would like to submit before this stage - now is a good time. :D
Hi Guys,
Well I have had Glenn around and he likes the following logos so far.
wwwzone: He likes your third entry and would like to see some variations on colours. We were also looking at some of the other logos on the site and came across and entry you submitted to the AboutFace thread that was appealing. The one with the circle shape with the S cut out. Are you able to put together something similar to this? One with an S style and one with an S T style?
Dan: Glenn liked both logos you submitted. He liked the corporate feel and also liked the circle as he could use the circle alone for branding. Could you possibly put together a couple of other variations and some colour variations as well?
After seeing the logos submitted so far, Glenn has decided that he would like some sort of symbol incorporated that he will be able to use for branding. He would still like to see any other ideas you can come up with.
Thank you to everyone who has entered so far.

Here are a couple of ideas. The both incorporate a design that is symbolic of a coil inside a transformer.

What about this?
thanks for the new entries -
wwwzone - just wondering if you could do something similar to this symbol below. Glenn liked how shapes were used to form what looks like an S.

Hrmm... Demex.. that shape sure looks simmilar to one of the logo designs that was in the About Face thread...
She asked for something similar, not the same thing. Besides, wwwzone is the one who made it, so the is no concern for him to alter it for this contest.
Quite correct Mike
Cypher: We saw it in the About Face thread and is where I grabbed it from. I am not asking for the same logo, just saying that this was an appealing style, and who is to say that that logo will be chosen in the About Face thread??

I've got it now. :)
I'll try and make something similar.
I'm back.
Let me know what do you think of this.
Thank you.
wwwzone: I really like the latest logo you submitted (my personal opinion) I just have to wait to hear from Glenn. The other great thing I like about it is that it can easily be faxed and still be understood.
Thanks for your effort. : )
Thank you. :)
It was a pleasure making them.

Please accept this design as my entry into this contest.

Same logo, just pure B&W

I like the concept you have used here with the negative and positive symbols. I feel though that the text Seaford Transformers doesn't site right with the symbol. Could you try possibly try a few variations in the position of the symbol with the text?

I've got some more ideas, based on the pos/neg -- red/black theme.
I've also reworked my original design.

Here's the last one for now.
I'm sorry to be a bit of a piggy with the multiple posts, but there
doesn't seem a good way to post a plethora (the word of the day) of ideas.
PLETH | O • RA (Greek: plethore >> to be full)
1. the state of being too full; overabundance; excess
Cre8or: thanks for those revisions - Glenn will have a lot to think about.
He should be around in a few days, and I think we will decide a winner then.
You have all done a great job!

I realize that this post may be too late but I wanted to toss it into the ring anyway. I will give it more thought over the weekend.

There are a few ways
1)Put them on your own server and use the IMG button when you post the logos. You can multiple image in posts that way
2)You can make a large canvas (like 500x500) and edit>copy>paste your logos on to that one canvas and save it individually.
Due to server space concerns, I like method 1 better.
Just helping :P

Thank you Palmer, I'll keep this information in mind.
Appreciate it.
(I'm kinda new at the whole forum thingy).
I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to enter this competition.
Glenn has discussed the different logos with a few friends and family and has decided the winner.

Congrats! Glenn has chosen your first entry, the one with the swoosh's through the middle.
Can you please send the original file and a .jpg, .gif and .png to my email address below.
Thanks again to everyone who entered. It was a very difficult decision for Glenn to make.

I will have the artwork prepared an sent tonight.
Thanks all,
Chris
