Hello,
I've been watching this board for some time and am really impressed with the work that goes on here. I would like to make a logo request for an amateur wrestling program “Bald Eagle Area Wrestling”. The program encompasses elementary (grades 1-6), jr high (grades 7-9) and varsity (grades 10-12). We are a very small rural school with a graduating class of around 150. To supplement the schools team budget we have had in place for about 20 years a non profit “wrestling club” that does fund raising to assist with the teams financial needs. I am a member of that club.

Just some back ground that might help you get a feel for our program which might help in your design. We are one of the top wrestling programs in Pennsylvania year in and year out. We have received both state and national recognition for our accomplishments over the years. For example we were ranked #1 in the nation by USA today in 1999. All of this has been accomplished on a very modest budget and as you’ve probably already noticed with comparatively small enrollments in our school. I tell our kids it’s kind of like a division three college football team winning a division one national championship. Needless to say we are proud of our wrestlers.

I volunteer as the head coach for our elementary program (80 wrestlers strong) as well as serve as the entire programs webmaster. I also donate the server space that the pages are hosted on. Due to time constraints I am in the process of migrating our static pages to phpwebsite which is more “dynamic”. I’ve tried to design logos that work but that definitely doesn’t come as natural to me as coaching. That’s where you folks come in. I am hoping that someone here might be willing to help us out with a design. Here’s a link to the new site which is in an on going state of re-construction.
http://www.beawrestling.com

Team colors: Navy Blue and Gold (as you can see from the site we are flexible with that as long as its close)

Team Mascot: Bald Eagle

Here is kind of our credo which could be contained in the logo:
Pride, Desire, Tradition and Winning!

Also good to have in the logo would be the web address with the BEA in caps:
BEAwrestling.com

Also a possibility might be:
“Internet Home of the Mighty Eagles” On our wrestling room wall we have a big painting of an eagle and it says “Home of the Mighty Eagles”. I thought it might be nice to mirror that on our web page.

It would also be great if the design would be simple enough to use on t-shirts or whatever…but that’s up to you all. All of the above are ideas but you can try anything you want.

I have attached is a link to letterhead that we use which you might also find useful. I put it here as a gif but I can also send it as a PNG if necessary.

Dynagirl,
Thanks very much for you posts. I am definitely partial to what you've done on the second logo.

What I would like to see different on the second logo:
I'm sure tipplle H is a cool dude but I think I'm a little attached to the eagle we use on the letter head. If you could work that into the design it would be great. I povided a link in my original post.

What I like on the second logo:
I like the font color and the font is close to having the right look.
I like the way you worked in "internet home of the mighty eagles" with the color change on the font.
could you also work in BEAwresting.com to that as well if its not too much trouble?

Overal I like you efforts and once again thank you very much for you work. Please let me know if you have questions for me about my comments.

LOL - Ask the kids about Tripple H, they'll know who he is!

So you don't want a new logo, you just want your current one remade and some text added?

Dynagirl,

Your statement above is accurate.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in my request. I should have probably done a better job at explaining what I wanted. My preference is to use the eagle from our letterhead. That being said I am probably at least somewhat open to other ideas but I think I'd like to stick with our eagle.

P.S. I will ask the kids about tipple H at our next practice. I'm sure I'll get the entire scoop.

Here's a redrawing of your eagle (shown in 2 sizes):

If you like this, then just let me know what you need (different size gifs, different images with different slogans, etc) and I'll make them up.

If I could get two logos that would be great:

1st logo
text please try to work in two phrases: "Bald Eagle Area Wrestling" and "Internet Home of the Might Eagles"

2nd logo
text again two phrases: "Bald Eagle Area Wrestling" and "Pride, Desire, Tradition, and Winning!"

I have absolutely no artistic ability so I'll leave most of the details up to you. I'm flexable on the size of the logo's. Maybe similar to the second logo you created above. Maybe around 150 px tall and whatever width you need to work in the wording. If you think that's too big let me know. I do know I'm not real crazy about cursive text. I think it gets a little hard to read.

In reference to your question about different image sizes:

I'm tinkering with the idea of using the image on cafeexpress to provide a little extra income for the wrestling club and give our fans the chance to buy some unique items. I'm not an expert at this stuff but I'm thinking if I had the original file format such as psd or png I could resize as needed for the eagle image. Is that accurate?

Thanks again dynagirl.

Yes, you're correct on having the original files for print work. And I always assume I'll be handing those over, so there's no problem with that. I created the image in Adobe Illustrator, so it's "vector" (fully resizable and good for print: t-shirts, flyers, etc).

I'll get to work on the text and post some samples a little later. Onc/e we're all done and you're satisified with the web-use gif logos, I can provide you with all the files.

Okay, here's some 150px high gifs with the basic text added:

Let me know what you think and if you might like anything else done to them.

Dynagirl,
I posted one of the logos to our site just to see how it would look. No need to change anything. It looks great!

How would you like to send me the original file of the eagle?

Again thanks very much for your time and help with the eagle.

Thanks, Palmer! :)

beawrestling -

Glad oyu like it. I checked your site and it looks nice. You can grab the work files here:

http://www.frobo.com/graphic_work/beawrestling/files/

That should bring you to a directory with 2 .ai (Illustrator) files in it. The first is a large version of the eagle and the other has the 2 smaller versions with the text. Just click on each to download. If you have any trouble, let me know and I can email them to you.

Thanks Dynagirl! I was able to download the files with no problems. I have a question however. I have adobe photoshop and image ready. I do not have illistrator. I was able to open the file in photoshop. Will I be able to resize it as well? It would appear I can as long as I save it in photoshops native file??

As you noticed, importing an Illustrator file into PhotoShop is no problem and you can resize it in PhotoShop. Depending on how drastic the resizing is, though, you might have some noticable loss in image clarity. But if it's a minor resizing of the Illustrator file in PhotoShop and being saved as a gif, it'll probably look fine. If you need significant resizing done, I'd be happy to do it for you. Just sendme an email letting me know what you need.

Be sure to hold onto the Illustrator file because they can be used for camera ready art if you plan to get any t-shirts or other print work done. You should be able to give a copy of the file to a printer and they'll handle it from there.
