It's 1:30 AM and I just got back from a night out with the fellas. After filtering my inbox, I did my usual stop by the dee dot and noticed I'm still online. After seeing the "active users" list, I began to wonder...I probably appear "online" 24-7 as I never logout (it's not like it's costing money to be logged in). Anyway, at least one of my machines are logged in all the time.

So Palmer, is there some sort of session timeout in the board script that automatically logs you out when you have been inactive for a specified period of time? It didn't really concern me until I started getting some messages that open with the line..."Seeing that your online right now..."

It just makes me think that if I reply 8 hours later, I, and others included may appear as though they are ignoring someone's, a fellow designer or a previous contest holder's, message.

Is it just a matter of closing the browser window/session?.. or have I overlooked some seetings in the control panel?

Maybe it's just the fact that I don't turn my PC's off?

Over to you...

Well, since a browser is still open at DO, your session is still valid, and therefor doesn't make you offline untill the script times you out. I think IBF has a 1 hour limit for that, although I'm not sure at all.

No, there is no way to time out your session other than closing the window. I keep mine open all the time even when I'm not at home just so it looks like the board is being monitored. If I'm going to be gone for more than an hour I close the window.

Well, the session times out after a while, but as soon as you visit d/o again, a new session starts (even if the old one has run out)...

Is that what you meant? :D
