Company / Logo Name: Intranet Innovation Awards
Deadline: Monday, June 12th
Award: $200

Company Background:

The Intranet Innovation Awards are a new initiative to be launched
by Step Two Designs (www.steptwo.com.au), a vendor-neutral consultancy
recognised as a global thought-leader on intranet strategy and
design.

These awards will have a global reach, and the competition will
partner with firms in the UK, US, and Europe. There will be
considerable publicity regarding the awards, both to highlight
the launch, and when the award winners are announced.

What we hope to accomplish with new logo:

This is the first year that the awards will be run, so we want
to present a professional but high-impact image. The logo should
be immediately recognisable, and should generate further interest
in the competition.

Where logo will be used:

* competition website
* published reports (print and PDF)
* award trophies (specific type to be determined)

Logo Requirements / Design Concept:

Our primary corporate colour is Pantone Orange (021 CVU),
and this should be used as a *highlight* element in
the design. We don't have any specific preference for
the other colours used in the design.

The logo *must* be reproducable in black-and-white (and
a design sample must be provided), as the logo may be
etched onto a trophy or plaque. Similarly, the design
should not be too complex, and must reproduce clearly
when etched into a metal or glass surface.

The logo must present the following image:

* innovation
* professionalism
* modern

It should present a strong professional image, while
being interesting and innovative. A modern font should
be used for the lettering (this does not need to match
the existing corporate fonts).

The words "Intranet Innovation Awards" should obviously
be used in the design.

Some design element illustrating the concept of
"innovation" should feature in the design.

Tagline or Slogan:

None.

Competitive Positioning:

There is one other intranet award run by the Nieslen/Norman Group (www.nngroup.com),
but they have absolutely no design sense at all. So we don't consider them
to be a real competitor in terms of developing this logo.

---

Please do ask for any further information required, and we will
respond promptly with feedback to the draft designs.

Okay, I'll get this one started...
innovation = "outside the box"

Hi David, definitely an "out of the box" idea, but it's just to stark for our tastes. It also doesn't work very well in black-and-white.

Hi Gig, nice design, but we don't want to create any "textart" that makes a logo out of the name. We would really much prefer a graphic logo of some sort...

Hi Ruairi, don't really like the font used (too "tech", and not professional enough). The star is nice, but not quite what we are looking for.

Hi Carol, thanks for your designs. Again, not keen on the specific graphic. It also doesn't incorporate our required highlight colour (Pantone Orange).

Hi Fabian, definitely a possibility! Does the symbol have any special meaning or significance?

As a couple of tweaks:

* I'm not keen on the light grey, especially for the text. This has very low impact and contrast.

* Can we give each of the three words the same prominance?

I'd like to see some other options (from you or others) before settling on this design...

Thanks, James

Hi Tnm, I don't think this is hitting this spot I'm afraid.

I'm not keen on the "science fiction" font (as indicated earlier, the font has to be modern -- probably sans serif -- but professional). I'm also not keen on the "blocky" logo.

Hi Carol, it's an interesting logo, but I don't think it hits the spot either (that's my "gut feel" reaction)...

Fabian

Thanks :)

Other than a person holding a globe,there's no special meaning
behind the logomark.

Not wanting to narrow down the options, but can someone play with a design using a styalised lightbulb to indicate innovation?

(That's not to say that there aren't better options, so please do present other options as well.)

Hi PixelSystem, thanks for the two options, but they are just too plain ... I think the lightbulb would need to be styalised more.

Hi NHR, definitely an interesting possibility...

PS, note to all: the text must be in black or a dark colour. Light grey for the text just doesn't work... :-)

James,
I need your email address to send you your files. It would probably be best to send in a PM.

Thanks.

Hi graphxguy, my email address is: jamesr@steptwo.com.au

Please do send through the artwork, but what's a "PM"?

(We'll need the artwork in some vector format that we can read, such as an Illustrator file, simple EPS, WMF, etc)

graphxguy

jamesr,
Per the rules here at DO, I've sent you a PM (private message) which has the link to where to download your logo files from. You will also get an email notification about where to download the file from.

To access your private messages, you must first log in. Once you do that, look in the upper right-hand corner of your screen and you should see in bold letters, Welcome, jamesr. And there you'll see a link for Private messages. Click on that link and then it's pretty much like reading e-mail.

If you have any problems, please do not hesitate to let me known.

Thanks.

Stephen
