Company Name:
Xado India

Project Summary:

We are distributors of nanotechnology based products (Gels and Lubricants) which repair, restore and protect automotive and industrial machinery.

Our parent company already have a logo which is being used in the packaging of all our products. We have about 90 types of different products.

We require a logo for our company which is based on the logo of our parent company. Read Perception / Tone / Guidelines for more info.

All interested designers may start work on the logo initially. Once we pick a designer, the chosen one can start work on the stationary.

We require a Letterhead, Business Card, and an Envelope. If possible and time permits we would also like a Folder (for distributing catalogues, letters and other documents) and a CD cover.

Artwork Format:
Illustrator EPS

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
2nd July 2006

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
1) Xado India
2) Repairs, Restores, Protects (Colors: Red, Light Green, Orange respectively)

What type of product or service do you offer?
We market unique and patented nanotechnology based gels and lubricants which repair, restore and protect automotive and industrial machinery. We market gels for automotive and industrial petrol engines, diesel engines, small engines, fuel pumps, compressors, gear boxes, hydraulic steering, etc) and lubricants (greases and motor oils) for industrial machinery of all types.

How long have you been in business?
Just over a year

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Attract attention and make them people want to know more about our products and the technology behind them.

Audience Profile:
Since our products are used in both vehicles and industrial machinery, we would be targeting all types of different audiences. For vehicles – we would be dealing with a typical vehicle owner, service station owners, and fleet owners. For Industrial machinery – we would be dealing with government organisations, industrial purchase managers, and technical staff of companies.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
We are open to all types of different ideas. But as a guideline we think that since all our products are liquids, it would be grease if you could show some sort of fluidity. But we’re flexible.

All our product packaging has already been developed so it is important that we maintain the font for the text “XADO”. You may try to change the outlines, textures, colors but not the font. You could tweak it to make it look better. Same goes for the round logo. The logo is more flexible though – you can slant it, shadow it, etc. Just maintain the basic essence of the logo. In the attached file there are three round logos. You may use either one and tweak it to your liking.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Nothing in particular except for the colors used for the text “Repairs, Restores, Protects” (Red, Light Green, Orange respectively). We would like to use these colors because our greases are packaged in these colors, i.e. Repairing grease in red, Restoring grease in Light Green and Protecting Grease in Light Green).

All our packaging is quiet colourful and attractive. See http://www.atomicoil.com/oils.php?lang=&page=oil&oil=15w40 for reference (Do no use any of the logos from here, except “XADO”).

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Yes. The text “XADO” and the round icon – read Perception/Tone/Guidelines. Picture attached.

You may use the attached “4 step repair” image for the business card / letterhead / folder.

What is your tag line or slogan?
Repairs, Restores, Protects

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
The message is too wide – but trying to talk about our gels and lubricants which REPAIR, and PROTECT machinery. Keywords: Gels, Grease, Oil, Liquid, Repair, Restore, Protect, Metal, Machinery

Where will your new logo be used?
Website, Business Cards, Letterheads, brouchers, other print media, etc.

What sets you apart from your competitors?
All our Gels and lubricants (greases and motor oil) are repairing products. They repair any type of industrial and automotive machinery, while they operate (no need for disassembly).

Note:
Find attached AI, and GIFs or the files – “XADO”, “Round Logo” and “4 step repair”.

Good Luck

Can you clarify EXACTLY what you want ... is it an entirely NEW logo or one which uses the existing Xado text (and sphere)?

Or something like the one attached?

Let me know.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Yes, we want to use the same font for the "XADO" bit, and also use the sphere somewhere. We dont mind if you change the sphere around a bit. Like I said, the essence of the sphere should be there somewhere in the logo. Also we would like to incorporate the tag line somewhere in the logo "Repairs, Restores, Protects" (Colors - Red, Green, Orange").

As for your current design, its quiet simple, but nice. Doesnt say too much about our products or the technology behind them. But nice. I like the the colors youve used.

Thanks

Vishal

Sorry I might have not been very clear, but we want a new logo, based on the existing logo. The current logo belongs to our counterpart in another country and is imprinted on all our product packaging. We want a brand new logo for ourselves, but based on their logo.

Hi Mediagraph. Thanks for your submission. Like I told paul we need to incorporate the tagline for one. Secondly it would be nice to see something more happening here. I mean maybe show a industrial bearing / drop of liquid, or something like that around the sphere. A few more colours, a little bit more attractive... But yup you've got the jist of it.

Even though i understand that we are a little bit restricted, I've given then full liberty to play around a bit and let the creative juices flow.. :-)

Thanks again... Keep trying... I like where this is going

Xadoindia,

From what I understand the objective is to create more of an illustrative piece rather then a logo - with all the necessary inclususions etc. In my opinion you may be trying to achieve/communicate too much with a single logo. Do you have any examples similar to your vision?

Look forward to your reply.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Ya maybe you are right. Unfortunately I do not have any particular example of what I would like to see it as, but simply put its pretty much what youve done + The sphere + the tagline.

Then probably stylize all that, add a gear or a bearing around the sphere and colourize it.

Thats it really. Tell me what you think and thanks for your submission

Hi Paul,

I like the way this looks, but is it possible to show the drop falling on the sphere somehow? I dont want the drop to be as prominent as the sphere, just want something to jazz up the sphere. One more thing Repairs is in red, restores in orange and protects in green. But i'm not too fussy about that, only if it looks good, else we can have it all in the same colour. If you read the description, its only because our greases are those colors. Also try and move INDIA around.

Would it be possible to see alternatives too? I like this so far.

Hi Mediagraph, is it possible to keep the circle as is, and show the drop falling on in and show drops coming out of the sphere from all sides so that it looks as if the sphere is rotating. I mean something like that. This is nice, we could rework the colours though.

Ok there is one more thing that I have in mind that you could try. Have a grey box, divide it into two horizontally. Have the sphere on one side (in white, as if it has been cut out), and XADO INDIA on one side (same as the sphere). Just a suggestion...

Do you mean like my previous proposal, but without the drip?

06-25-2006, 02:51 AM
Hi Paul,

I mean still have the drop, but without the white circle as the background, and have the drop on top of the sphere as if its an oil drop falling on the sphere. I dont know, i'm not a very creative person, just trying to help you come up with an idea. Also you may try to have a shadow of the sphere falling on the left of the sphere, right at the bottom. Just so that it looks a bit 3d.

Hmmm thats nice... I like the colors, Except the Repair color is original red, Restores is fine, and protects is the orange used for the sphere in the flat preview. Also could there be more drops. Probably alternating colors all around the Sphere. I dont like the drop coming out of the center. I think we could move XADO INDIA around aswell, probably on the side, and colorise it too. The gradient used for the sphere can be tweaked too. The white bit in the center of the sphere could be on the sides / or remved all together. But nice... we're getting there.

Try some other designs (alternatives) too, without the drops, probably with a gear going around the sphere, or a bearing.

Hi Castell,

Very Nice.. I really like the XADO India, Repairs, restores and protects bit, and love color scheme. Only thing that I think which requires change is the sphere. Remove the droplets, and use the original sphere, and change the colors to the color scheme of the droplets. If you see, the sphere has three halves, try to use the three colors youve already used. Also could you show me one, with a gear around the sphere, with a little bit of padding around the sphere?

Nice work.

One more thing Castell, could you make XADO in Red and make it kinda 3d. I want it to look like motor oil / paint. So it should look glossy and liquidy.

Hi Castell,

I like the second one. But one or two minor changes. The XADO bit looks as if its standing up and we're looking at it from the top. I meant that we should keep the same perspective as the one you did earlier, but just make it slightly glossy. Ok one more thing, could you change all the reds to a very deep red. I dont mean dark, but kind of a very real red paint looking red. Also the orange to an Orange (the fruit) color. Lastly, could you make the sphere and the gear slightly small and the shadows to look a little bit more real.

If you have any other alternatives, or anything else in mind, please try to show them too.

Hi Castell, that looks better. Ok the top one is nice, but again the red is too dark. Its looking more like maroon. The previous color was better than this one. Also the shading in the top one is quiet light at the bottom. And the sphere and the gear need to be even more smaller. They should be the side of the height of XADO and REPAIRS, RESTORES.... But very nice. I'm liking this.

Hello,

Sorry about last post, I missed some of the edits, which you have pointed out. Here is one that encompasses most of the requests.

As for the deep red, it will be a little hard to get a good deep red in Pantone Colors, so I used a CMYK gamut for this instance.

Ok this is the color that Im kinda looking for:

http://thumb.shutterstock.com/photos/display_pic_with_logo/686/686,1106565868,2.jpg

The effect that I'm looking for (for XADO) is an average of the following (obviously slightly more smoother and real looking):

Ah excellent... I really like this... ok now could you show me some alternatives too. If youre the one then we can always make minor changes later. But meantime do you think you could show me something different? I mean maybe something even more creative. I'll leave it to you. Try and move away from the work thats been done so far. I want a very sleek, professional, and "Oil Company" looking logo. If you can then please show me about 2-3 different logos. Look at something like Castrol & Mobil for reference. Cheers. This is good work.

xadoindia
06-26-2006, 07:12 PM
Ok one more thing. For the new alternatives, you can completly do away with the sphere. Just XADO INDIA, repair, restore, protects. A complete different type of a logo.

Ok lets stick to the original one then. Regarding the fix that youve done - rather than increasing the tail of the yellow section, please increase the width of the orange section. Could you just smoothen out (as much as you can) the sphere. And as for the colors for the XADO bit - could you show me the last one and version 1e together, so that its easier for me to choose between the two. One last thing - once we reduce the size of this logo - Repairs , restores protects would almost become unreadable - so any alternatives or suggestions?

Hello Vishal Rastogi,

I am very sorry to inform you that I will be away for two weeks.

The main reason for writing this is that I would like to give the best possible design for you and your company. However, as I said, I am leaving tomorrow on an unexpected trip that will last for two weeks. Only after that, I will be able to completely finish your project (including the business card, letterhead, envelope and folder).

Moreover, I have sent the files that I have done so far on the project to the administration of Design Outpost. So, if you would like to meet a specific deadline and cannot wait for two weeks - another designer will be assigned to your project. That designer will have on hand the files that I have made so far, and he/she will be able to easily help you lead the whole project to completion.

Thank you for your time,

Sincerely,
Castell

Ok now in this the following:

1) Further reduce the size of the logo
2) The Logo that i would like to see on the card is Version 01F (See your post on the 7/8/06 - the scalled down one)
3) Make the Bit "DIRECTOR and all text below" exactly the way it is in Card version 1 "Executive Director and all text below"
4) Finally try and reduce the size of the sphere at the back a little smaller

Thats it...

Note : I am not too sure what you mean by version 01f, since you also mentioned my 07/08/2006 post (with the three versions of the symbol). Please note that in version 01f - the symbol is in very crude form and in my post from 07/08 I have smoothen it according to your feedback.

Hi castell,

Not the symbol, but 01f of the entire logo. Remember before you left you made india a little smaller so that repairs, restores, protects even takes up the space under india. Look at the post on that day for the logos, where youve shown me two of them, and then one of them scalled down. The first one is the one I want you to use.

Let me know if you still dont understand. I'll send you a screen shot.

One last change in this design Keep A2 as is (incluing the line under Jack Phillip) but use the font and colors from A1.

Now I hope I dont put you off, I like this design and would choose this if nothing better comes up. But I would really like to see a much cleaner design. I wanna see the watermarked sphere at the back but not overlapping with the text. Do you think you could design just one more card, which is complete different, but attractive and clean.

Hi castell,

Nice ones.... Ok now i really like two designs e2, and d3. But now if you can incorporate the final changes and finish the card off we can move the the letterhead and folder.

Ok we'll use the front side of the card as d3. In this please make the size of the watermarked sphere, the size of a3.

For the back of the card, make it solid red (the color of the bar at the bottom of d3). Now if you can show me two variations of the back:

1) Where the outline of the sphere (like in e2) is mirrored at the back (on the left hand side) and just XADO (with the font) on the right hand side - centered.

2) Where the outline of the sphere is in the middle (from top edge to bottom edge) is on the left hand side and XADO (with the font) on the right hand side - centered.

Or instead you could just send me the illustrator files for D3 and E2, and i'll do the changes and send it back to you.

The basic idea is that the color of all my corporate stationary could be red.

Hi Catell,

Nice work. But I dont like the Coca-Cola one. :-)

Ok lets fix the envelope first. I'll let you know about the card and letterhead later.

In reference to Version Env2:

Left align the text for the address, and place it in the bottom left hand corner of the envelope. In india, the return address is always on the bottom left hand corner.

Try different positions for the Logo (All four corners). Sphere is fine except i think you could try a smaller size.

xadoindia
08-01-2006, 07:16 AM
Regarding the Card. Front is fine. For the back - I like G1, except move the sphere about 10 pixels to the left and about 50 pixels top, so that the sphere is in the middle.

As for the letter head, add the red bar in LT2 to LT1 (with the address). Try and do something else instead of the red and grey bars on the right.

Hi castell,

Please use G6 for the card back. So the cards done.

I dont like LT4 - too much happening. I somewhat like LT3.
But could be different. Too much space is being wasted at the top.

As for the envelopes, I like env3. Its simple and nice. Please remove the red bar on the left and align the address with the logo.

Hello,

Is there anything else that I should work on apart from few different versions of the letterhead and the removal of the bar from env3?

Thank You,
Castell

ok there was an optional item. If youre not already too tiered of this project then i'd really like you to work on a simple folder which can hold my letters, Brouchers, etc. Basically just think of it as a document which is twice the width of an a4 sheet. Just something simple.

One more thing : Could you please give me the text - exactly as you would like it to appear on the business card, envelope, folder, etc. Since I have to outline every text before the pre-print preparation. Otherwise the text will look different depending on the font that is chosen for it. Right now I am using "Helvetica Neue LT Std 65 Medium".

It is available for $21 here : http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/linotype/neue-helvetica/

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Thank You,
Castell

Env3_b is final.

Ok the folder looks great. instead of the XADO Repairs, restores, protects, could i have my company logo there in all white?

Do you think you could give me both LT7_A and LT5. I'd like have both of them printed and see which one looks better.

If yes, then please send me the AI files and we'll close the project.

Thanks for all your help. You've been great to work with, and youve achieved everything I expected to have.

Regarding the font. Dont make outlines and just send it to me as is, I'll purchase the font seperately.

Thanks
Best Regards

One more thing castle,

Try to give me all the files with text and not outlines, just incase we want to make any changed ourselves later.

We just want everything to be editable.

Hello,

I will make the changes on the folder tonight. As for the letterheads, it is no problem to send you both versions.

Now about the font, I will sent it in Arial since it goes with every Microsoft Windows package. Please note that as soon as you purchase the font and change Arial to Helvetica Neue Std 65 Medium - the look will be exactly as it is now. However, before that it may differ a little bit.

I also was thinking of sending you both outlined version and one set in Arial. But still I need the full text on the business card, letterhead, etc... Right now it is something like that "xxxxx, Basant Lok Comples, etc."

Thank You,
Castell
