Company Details

1a) Name of Company: Computer Mentors Group, Inc. or Computer Mentors (for short)

1b) Company Tag Line or slogan: None that we actually use.

1c) Do you have a company logo?
Yes. We presently have two logos that we use. We are committed to the hand imprints that are utilized as part of the logo but are open to change on how the text is formatted if something different needs to be done with the name of the organization in order to make a nice web comp.

Logo 1: http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/RSmith59/CMGLogo.jpg
Logo 2: http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/RSmith59/WebPhotoes/CMGCircleLogo.png

1d) Do you have a corporate visual identity (a customized (non stock) logo and color scheme carried out throughout your office, stationery, business cards, etc.)? No, we do not have this currently. The only common thread that we do have that gets carried across stationery and so on is the handprint.

1e) What is the nature of your business?: Briefly describe your products or services:

We are a "Digital Divide" non-profit organization that provides computer training and computers to underserved populations. Our primary "flagship" program is our Youth Certification & Ownership Program. This program is for youths aged 14 through 18 who are given an opportunity to earn their own person computer, which they build, and a computer certification called IC3. Our other programs include: Adult basic computer training, Computer Mentors Kids Program for children, Christmas Computers For Kids a computer giveaway program, and Back-To-School Computers for kids, another computer giveaway program.

1f) Who is your target market? Who are you hoping to reach with your site?
Our functional clients are the youth (14 to 18) in our primary program. However, we are supported by the donations from foundations and corporations, so in a very real sense, they are our real clients.

Website Details

1b) Do you have an existing website? If so, what is the URL?
Our current website can be found at www.computermentors.org

2b) IMPORTANT: Please list at least 3 URLs (web addresses) of high quality sites that you like the look of (these do not have to be sites who’s business is similar to yours. It aids us in determining what your design style is.) Please consider layout, colors, navigation, graphics, and typography.
http://www.thetech.org/
http://corp.ign.com/ I like the scroll. I’m not in love with the colors of the background, but the scroll would give us a way to highlight our funders and display photos.
http://www.vivabit.com/

3b) What colors or color schemes would you like?
See http://www.giftsinkind.org/newhome/partnerships.asp. I love the background color used in the subsequent pages (not the initial home page which is just a white). Also love these crisp lines they’ve used.

4b) List the Navigation links for your Site:
Our Programs
Meet The Mentors
Our Sponsors
CMG News
Make A Donation
Contact Us

5b) What type of look are you trying to achieve? (e.g. clean, high-tech, conservative, warm, flashy, etc.)

The primary goal of the redesign is to present a youthful clean and crisp look while maintaining an image that is professional. The “end result” on what the “visitor” will be browsing the site for will primarily be based around content and learning more about the programs and activities that Computer Mentors has going on within the community. Feature sections that will be most important are:

• a highlighted news/events;
• feature spot where we can spotlight some of our sponsors, founders, and the kids;
• and a login (button) section for sponsors/board members/educators/kids
• Clear button / call to action on every page to be able to make a donation (we will be using PayPal for the donations)

The only “call to actions” that will need to be planned for will be in “the program” section where we’ll look to capture the child’s contact information.

6b) Please provide the addresses of competitors' sites, if possible:
http://www.bgcb.org/ Boys & Girls Clubs
http://www.bgcc.org/ Boys & Girls Clubs
http://www.bbbs.org/ Big Brothers Big Sisters

7b) Do you have any images for use in the design of your site? If not, do you have images, can you offer suggestions of what you type of imagery you feel would be most suitable for your website:

Logo Considerations

I don’t have actual images for the site but do have some that can be used as suggestions.

Logo 1: http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/RSmith59/WebPhotoes/?start=all
Logo 2: http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/RSmith59/WebPhotoes/CMGCircleLogo.png

Deadlines and Deliverables

1c) What is the deadline for the design of your project?
Like to have this don’t by July 19, 2006

2c) What is required breakdown of the files you require our designers to supply you with on finalization of your project?
We will be requiring PSD/Flash/fonts or any other particulars that chosen designer comes up with. Any buttons that we would use for call to actions such as “more info” / “click here for more information” / similar things will need to have its own layers / psd file so we can repurpose / use.

Are there any other comments/specific ideas we should keep in mind while designing your project?
Please see section 5b for more details. After looking through the www.computermentors.org website please for any further questions so we can further define project scope.

Hello all,

Thanks you all for your posting and patience for comments. This is being done by a committee which is the reason for slow responses from us.

We like what we see but have some comments that we are hoping to see revisions to. Our comments will be posted by the deadline date, which we will then extend.

Thanks you all again.

First, thank you to everyone who responded. Please see comments and suggestions below. We will look to close up the project and award the winning bid on the 11th of Aug.

Ralph
------------------------------------------------------------

First example:

Cut mission statement under photos, move news up.
Balance colors.
Get rid of url on top (redundant).
Demi face the logo text.
Reduce navigation button size.
Navigation system > Room for expansion is needed - First and second level links.

Cons-

Too big/top heavy

Donation needs emphasis

Ideas:

Cut mission statement under photos, move news up

Balance out colors

Get rid of url on top

Demi face the logo text

Reduce button size

Navigation system, first level links second level links?

Second Example:

We are no longer considering this bid.

Third Example:

Move login box to the left side under logo.
Lighten background behind links - lighter grey. Use logo colors in navigation (from the logo)
Move donation box above news, curve on the top right only.
Add a featured student section (bottom left).
Navigation system > First and second level links.
Give examples of headings and subheadings and unordered lists.
Show hyperlink theme when links are in context.

Set up the news section such that a tidbit is listed with a link to view more.

Pros-

Donation focus – could be on top

Layout/Size

Logo

Space for addition

Curve

Navigation could be extended

Cons-

Colors and depth

Misplaced login

Plain

Ideas:

Move login box

Lighten bg, light grey, primary (logo) color use in navigation

Move donation box above news, curve on the top right only

Featured student section

Navigation system, first level second level links?

Give examples of headings and subheadings and unordered lists

Content hyperlink themes?

Fourth Example***:

What are the links on the bottom supposed to be used for? Can the sponsors be listed in this area as icons or whatnot prior to the bottom navigation?

Can we do something with the left navigation to tighten things up … specifically so that we can potentially have flyout / expanding left nav menu’s

Possibly with a space for a small photo or banner representing the sponsor?

Rather than saying "Our Sponsor" can the heading say, "Featured Sponsor?"

Student spot light?

The top navigation seems heavy. Meaning we feel it could be perhaps 2/3 the size that is now or less. We are interesting in having something that still gets the at least content in place “BEFORE THE FOLD”. This could consist of shrinking the logo, and or movement of the login boxes so that the logo can perhaps fill part of the left nav also. Perhaps some other options here based on your creative input.

Can you incorporate a spotlight (featured student) section?

Fifth Example:

What type of color scheme that incorporates more of the “computer mentors” colors as based on the logo.

Add in a featured student section.

Add in a featured sponsor section.

Remove URL on top.

Slim down login boxes.

Move the paypal donation to either upper left or lower left navigation

Give example of subnavigational links under the main top menu’s. that way we can list the programs and / or any other deeper pages as necessary.

Links on very bottom (contact, etc) should fill whole bottom like the copyright below.

Hello all;

Thank you to everyone that responded. This has been a very nice experience. Thank you all also for the patience that you’ve displayed with us. This is just a piece of a project whereby the youths in our program will be renovating our web site. They only meet once a week for 2 hours and we wanted to let them be instrumental in making the decisions.

Anyway……

We’ve made our decision and the though there were a couple of other really good submissions, we’ve chosen Aliska’s CMG changes 01 as the template that we’re going to go with.

Thanks again for all that submitted.

Whoops. Aliska. The group just informed that I ask you for the wrong template. We really wanted the "CMG changes" rather than the "CMG changes 01".

Hello
Thanks for choosing me. Do you need any corrections to the version or shall I send you psd file right now?

To Aliska,

No changes. Looks like the group would like to receive it as is. If it's OK, can you throw in the 2nd PSD as well. If not, understood and no proble.

Thanks again all.

Over and out.
