Project Summary (logo)

My website: (see current logo on site)

http://www.eye4weddings.com

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Steve Smith Photography

What type of product or service do you offer?
Mostly wedding & portrait photography, some editorial work

How long have you been in business?
2 years

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
A simple, easily recognizable brand. My current logo just doesn’t accurately represent that, I think it’s too “corporate” looking and not personable and does not “fit” with my business and target audience.

What are your long term goals?
To be known in my area as a leader of high quality wedding photography.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
15 days

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
The majority of my marketing is targeted to females, who are planning to be married within the next 4-12 months. Couples that come to me want a photographer who is creative; someone who is fun, and will let them enjoy their wedding day, and not control their wedding day.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
Higher end clientele.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Something creative, elegant, but not necessarily something entirely targeted to the wedding audience. It would be great if the logo could be used for portrait photography and possibly some of my other editorial work (cross promotional) I also prefer and more horizontal logo rather than vertical.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Nothing set in stone, I do like blue. I also require a black and white version as well.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Not at this time, I would like to be able to have an identifiable logo (or part of a logo) that could possibly be watermarked in the photos.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
That I’m a professional, highly trained individual who is passionate about what they do.

What is your tagline or slogan?
There is a couple that I have been using:
Creative wedding photojournalism
Capturing the beautiful and magical

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
That they should chose me over competitors because of my unique approach to photography.

Where will your new logo be used?
Web, print ads and business cards

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
They are fairly simple, have style and nothing to over the top.

List competitive URLs if possible

http://www.coryparris.com/
http://www.redstonepictures.com/

What sets you apart from your competitors?
I’m all about working with what the clients want, I don’t direct them or tell them how their wedding has to be. This results in clients who enjoy their wedding day and in turn makes for better photographs.

State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Elegant, sophisticated and fun, non-traditional.

I've also attached three other logos that I liked overall.

Hi all, great to see some work posted!

Medigraph - I like v.2, still not sure of the graphic you used, is it my initials? I couldn’t figure it out, so my clients might have that problem as well.

Fabian - I'm afraid this logo is too specific to wedding photography, while it's 80 percent of what I do, I still would like to be able to use this for non-wedding related work. Also it should be photography, not photographer.

Splunking - I'm really not in love with this design, I think the overall proportions are too large and I do not like the font or graphic that much.

For everyone, I've also added a new logo sample that I liked, so now there are three samples to review. See message #1 above.

Pracus - I like the concept, it shows creativity. My one observation, the swan appears 'snake' like, especially without the text. I'd love to see that refined a bit more.

J. Johnson - Your first two concepts are interesting, but they probably aren't my favorites. If I had to pick one I like the second design more.

Pracus - I like the refinement, the only thing I don't like are the feathers in the middle of the graphic.

Medigraph - The graphic is interesting, it looks to me a bit harsh, maybe something to soften the edges up slightly?

To everyone - I was talking with an associate and review the designs so far, she came up with an idea I like. Incorporating a calla lily flower, (I'm assuming everyone knows what they look like, but a photo is attached for reference) something along the lines of simple outline, with smooth curves, perhaps even incorporating the initials or the letter "S" into the flower.

While it does lean more toward the wedding theme I think it could still be appropriate for other types of photography.

Since I am adding this additional idea to the mix I will be extending the deadline on this project 5 more days. The new deadline will be Friday, 7/21.

djaka - the concept is interesting, but I really don't like the S, it almost makes it look as though it's Steve S Smith Photography.

Pracus - I think this is good, no more refinement needed on this design at this point.

Medigraph - I like the balance and overall look, I'm not entirely sold on the look of the flower.

I've attached a logo of a calla flower I came across recently. It's the graphic above the zcallas that I like.

Hi all,

I've just returned from an out of town wedding, and wanted to respond to the latest posts.

J.Johnson - Your lastest concept is interesting, however I think the Steve Smith text is too large, and I would like to see the photography text a little bigger. Also, i'm not entirely sold on the graphic portion.

Mark - Out of all of the recent posts, I find yours the most intersting, as I really like the abstract elements of the Lilly. In my initial observation it looks a bit like a whirlwind or tornado in design, but a bit of refinement with the ideas below could really make this one a winner. I prefer a different font to be used possibly. I'd like to see more color in the design, maybe even different colors.

Titania - I found your design extremely unique, but does not really fit exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe since you have the idea of the "S" being built into the name, possibly take these other critiques into consideration for another posting. The font is a bit too different for my taste. The lilly would fit more if it were abstract with the initials being built into them.

Eziey - I really enjoy the color scheme choices of your design, the font to me is okay with the Steve Smith, but the font isn't my favorite. I am looking for more of an abstract Calla Lilly than a whole flower, maybe even an element with the leaf of the lilly integrated as well.

To everyone -I'd like to present one more idea that I would really like everyone to include for future designs.

I found this companies website logo to be very similar "in concept" to what I'm looking for. Their logo has a couple of different looks to it, if you look at it once, you might see one thing, and keep looking you might see another (i.e. motion picture camera and then a Bride and Groom embraced and dancing). With those two thoughts, I would like to have the same idea, but using a Calla Lilly and the "S, SP, or SSP" be integrated into the abstract Calla.

With all of that said you guys are AWESOME and doing a wonderful job, more so then I ever expected. I look forward to seeing more designs. As a reminder I extended the project and it has 5 more days left.

firephotos, I will make some changes based on your suggestions however I must remind everyone that copying or using design elements/ideas from other artists is not allowed.

On another note, I'm not sure if you noticed or not, but if you look closely, you will notice that I used a person to create the shape of the lily as well as it creating the letter "S"

Ratbaggy - Interesting idea, but this design is most likely not something I'm looking for.

Eziey - I like this, however could I see a different font for Steve Smith? I'm not that crazy about the shape of the S with the name.

Mark - I like the latest revision, the text looks much better.

Titania - I do like the 2nd concept more, although it probably is something more complex that what I'm looking for. I wanted to keep the logo design as simple as possible.

No worries, just thought I'd try something different.

After careful consideration I have decided to work with Eziey!

Thank you all for participating. FYI I will have 2-3 additional design projects for promotional and adverting materials in the works very soon.

Eziey - Would like a couple of minor changes before we wrap things up, I would like to see a different font for Steve Smith and a suggestion to add the center stalk or that is usually in the middle of a calla flower, it doesn’t have to be large, just something there to make it more flower like.

Thank you all again!

Hi Eziey,

I've looked at all the designs and I'm leaning towards 2a, however if it's not much trouble, I would like to see it compared with just a few more minor changes before finalizing this design. This should be the last of it! :)

I would like to see a font that has one or two letters that go past the horizontal line such as the h or t in previous posts, or in my initial sample (Jill Higgins photography logo) and then placing the photography text in the middle. I am also thinking that the 'photography' text should be just a little bit larger (taller), and finally the graphic, while I like the color of blue for the text I'm not sure if I really want the graphic the lighter shade of blue, I welcome some suggestions from you on other color choices that might work well. Thank you again!

Steve

Hi Eziey - I'm getting close, sorry for the delay I've been showing the samples around, getting feedback. I do like 2i, but now that I see it I don't like the dark portion in the center, my eye tends to draw toward it, also the photography text should be darker, it might be interesting if a third color was used (perhaps in the center part and photography text?) maybe something between the two that you used? Also it was suggested to be that the graphic should move slightly left in that particular design, with the end coming close to the letter t.

So right now it's between 2b and 2i. Once I see the final changes I'll make my decision.

Hi Eziey,

2b4 (4th down, lower left) is it! Thanks so much for your hard work.

I would prefer the logo’s background to be transparent so it can be placed anywhere. Also EPS and PSD formats are preferred. Let me know if you have any other questions or need any additional information.

Thanks!
