Our church recently approved a new name for our church, SonRise Evangelical Free Church and we need a logo. We are impressed with your talented team of designers and are excited to see what you come up with.
Thanks,
Cindy

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
SonRise as the main part of the logo with Evangelical Free Church as the subtext. The "R" in SonRise should remain capitalized and SonRise is one word.

What type of product or service do you offer?
Bringing non-believers to Christ and helping believers to grow in their faith.

How long have you been in business? 13 years

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
To portray an image that is welcoming and uplifting to the rural community our church serves.
I think our Mission Statement may be helpful… Alive in Christ! Growing and Going. Growing to be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Going to the world with his message.

What are your long term goals?
Here is our vision statement…
To be a mission driven, dynamic, thriving, alive body of Christ that is passionately bringing people into the kingdom and growing them up to love, worship, and serve the living God.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer? July 21st

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
We are a small, growing church that has a membership of all ages. We have a number of outreach ministries for different age groups that our members and people from outside our church attend.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
Continue reaching people of all ages and who are at all stages of their growth with the Lord.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
We open to ideas that are free flowing as well as a more structured. Here are two sites of logos we like that show both styles.
www.sonrisebaptist.net
www.sonrisebaptist.org

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
We do not have definite colors for our church so we are open to ideas. It is important that the logo be effective B&W because with our limited budget most of our materials will be photocopied.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Yes, we would like to focus on Christ’s resurrection thus the idea of the “Son Rising” rather the “Sun Rising”. If you have a sun included have it be subtle.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Concepts that get across the idea that Christ has risen.

What is your tagline or slogan?
Alive in Christ! Growing and Going.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
We are a welcoming and friendly church that serves and loves a risen Lord. We are a church you need to check out!

Where will your new logo be used?
Signage, bulletins, flyers, church brochure, business cards and so on.

Titania and Senter - I got feedback from the other teammates and they would like to stay away from the use of Jesus in the logo. Can you try a different direction?

Titania - We like the lettering in your logo. Not so sure about Evangelical Free Church above the name.
Thanks,
Cindy

Senter - Your V2 is too techno or hard edge for our tastes. I like the concept of the sun shining through the cross though or even coming from behind. Can you make the type more varied so it has a warmer feel to it. Something like Titania's or these two examples:
www.sonrisebaptist.net
www.sonrisebaptist.org

Titania - With your V2 is there a way to make the Evangelical Free Church "slightly" larger. If we have to reduce the logo even more I'm concerned we may lose this type. I know this is tough with the amount of space available. Also, I'm struggling with how to incorporate the concept of the resurrection or Christ rising along with this design. I know we kind of messed that up when we asked you to remove Jesus. Do you have any other thoughts to go along with this design?

I like your style, can you come up with another logo concept to help get the creative ideas flowing?

Senter & Titania - I'm going to sketch out some "rough" and I mean "rough" ideas as well as variations of your concepts and I'll post them later today. It might make it easier to get my thoughts across!
I appreciate your input!

Senter - Yes, your V3 is more like what we are looking for. Could you make the sun work a dual purpose of a crown that is illuminated and also still represents a sun. What do you think, is this doable?

Titania & Senter - I've attached a "very rough" concept (I figured you needed a good laugh today) that you could both tackle if you wanted to. I know, it has a Christ figure, but I am the one on the team that likes this concept! I think the challenge with including Christ is getting him depicted correctly. The idea is that Christ has his arms outstretched and is looking up to heaven. It also represents a landscape with the sun rising. I realize this may be a tough design to make work, especially with Christ's face, but I thought I would put it out there!

I appreciate your ideas,
Cindy

Titania - I was concerned that my feeble attempt at an idea would give the wrong impression. The round part of the sun is actually the face of Christ and needs to look real and very sincere. Also, the rays could be the crown on his head. I know my artwork looked cartoony buts that because I didn't know how else to get my idea across. The reason the rest of our team was hesitant to even include Christ is because it is so difficult to portray him accurately. I'm thinking this concept may be too tough to get across; what do you think? Is it possible do a more serious representation of Christ that will still look graphically pleasing or am I asking for too much? Sorry for the miscommunication on my part!

I hope you are still planning on submitting a new concept along with the one above!

Titania & Senter - The members of our team are split between the two of you so here's what we need!

Thanks for creating the recent logos with the Christ figure. These have helped confirm that we want to steer clear of that direction. The decision was not based on your artwork because that was good.

Senter - We want to see what I think will be a few "minor" variations of a couple of your designs.
V4 - Can you make the colors in V4 the same as your V3? The Rise should be gold and the wording Evangelical Free Church should be in blue.
V3 - Please look at the attached artwork and can you make the sun in this illustration look like a crown? My attachment is only an idea of what we are thinking and not very professional looking so don't feel restrained by this example. I just don't want the crown/sun to get too overpowering. Also, you're going to have to readjust the rays so they work correctly. But I'll let you worry about that because you're the expert!
V7 - You're thinking... hey, there is no version 7. Can you create one more concept along the lines of this logo? A little more free form like this:
www.sonrisebaptist.net

Titania -
V2 - There are those of us on the team that like your V2 but we are wanting something included that signifies Christ's resurrection. We want this element to mesh with the current design and we would still like to keep the sun. Also, can you make the Evangelical Free Church slightly larger?
V5 - We would like to see one more totally different concept from you along these lines:
www.sonrisebaptist.net

Thanks so much!
Cindy

Titania - Thanks Titania.
V6 - There's a couple minor changes I want to see. Can you push out "only the inside" of the sun rays and make the crosses slightly larger? I want the crosses to stand out a bit more. Make sure to leave the outside of the rays the same size. Can you extend the bottom of the "S" on SonRise so it matches up with the bottom of Evangelical Free Church? Please make the colors the same as your V5 design.

Also, now that we have this logo tweeked, can you come up with another "totally new" concept before tomorrows deadline? Let me know if this is doable?
Thanks so much Titania,
Cindy

Titania & Senter - We are going to make a decision after Senter gets back from out of town and has an opportunity to post revisions for V3 & V4. Also, you both were planning on posting one more "totally new" concept... correct? With the new concept I won't have you make any revisions, we'll make our decision at that point! If we choose one of the new concepts we can always revise it after our decision.

Cindy

Titania, Senter & Blue Cherry - OK, I'm a little embarrassed here. I've been checking the site to see if there have been updates and I didn't realize that this thread had expanded to page 2... sorry about that! Many on the team have wanted to see a tomb but I didn't mention this because I didn't know how it would come across; thanks for adding this to the mix. I'm going to talk to the other team members and hopefully I'll get back to you tomorrow if I am able to connect with each of them.
Thanks for the submissions,
Cindy

Titania, Senter & Blue Cherry - I'm waiting to post comments on your last additions because we have a couple team members that will be looking at the site today and I didn't want to sway their opinion. I want them to see everything with fresh eyes. We have 7 team members and I will let you know which way the "majority" is leaning once I have their opinion. The majority will be making the decision.

Paula 23 - Thanks for the fast reply. My initial reaction is that I like it. I'll be talking with other team members to get their thoughts so I don't want to get you going on a wild goose chase with revisions. Only change at this point is making the "R" capitalized because our name is SonRise.

Thanks Everyone! I'm excited to see some new ideas added to the great ideas we already have,
Cindy

Paula 23 I was concerned how the capital "R" was going to work but I like it even better. Here I wasn't going to have you make revisions but can you make the top part of the "R" that swishes wrap around the cross and peek out the back. Also, SonRise is one word and it almost seems like the "n" is crowding the cross and the "R" is spaced out a little far.

DESIGNERS - Finally, some feedback! The "majority" of our team is leaning towards either Titania's V5,6or7(crosses) or Paula's V2or3. Here is some specific feedback for each designer.
Titania - The main thing we are struggling with is that the rays when made B&W seem too prominent. We will be using the B&W version a lot so this is important. Can you make the rays either finer or smaller? I know a screen would help but we don't want to go that direction because how screens print out on a copier. Also, for the color version, can you try something like Senter's V3? Please make the changes on V7(cross version). Thanks, we like your design!
Paula 23 - The overall reaction has been very positive. Some on the team are leaning towards V2 and others to V3. If we choose your design, we'll figure out which version we like best at that time. What would you think of throwing out another new design idea?
J. Johnson - I'm glad you submitted the tomb so we could see how this looked, but only one on the team liked it. Like your work, can you submit another idea?
Senter - There a couple on our team that "really" like your V3 and even the V4 but its the rays that are tripping them up. The B&W on V3 looks like a peacock and the B&W V4 doesn't come across well. I wish I had a suggestion; do you have any ideas? Can you try another direction with the rays? No takers on V8 or V9.
Travis - I like your designs but don't feel like they fit our church and community. V1 is a little too funky and V2 is not warm and fuzzy enough. We're in a small town setting so think hotdishes and jello salad! Can you submit another idea?

Titania - Oh yes, your V9 is so much better! The name and cross pop out now... very nice. I really appreciate you making these changes but I knew they were important because your design is one of our favorites and I didn't want these issues to get in the way.

Can I ask you one more favor and then I will quit harassing you!! Can you put the drop shadows (like V7) back in name on the color version? I'm not concerned about having the screens in the color version (it's the B&W where screens are an issue). I really like the shadows on the lettering. Also can you make the blue more intense and the rays in yellow like Senter's V3? Evangelical Free Church can be in blue.
Thanks so much Titania for all your great work,
Cindy

DESIGNERS - Here's an update on what our team is thinking. Titania's V9 and Paula's V3 are the favorites with Travis's V4or5 possibly joining with a few revisions I've listed below. Here is specific feedback for each of you:

Paula 23 - Thanks for submitting your Version 4. We have a couple on the team that like it (not so sure about the color) but your V3 is our favorite. One issue with your V3... can you make the cross pop out a little more on the B&W version? Really appreciate your participation!

Travis - Most of the team members like your V4or5 (they really like the lettering) but they would like to see the sun and Christ/cross figure have a different look, a little more refined. Also, make the Christ/cross figure "just" a cross. We'd like to see the sun rays be a little longer.

We also like V3 but would like to see some changes. Can you make the cross more promiment and try a different approach with the rays?
Thanks so much Travis!

Deanna - Everyone liked your design, but the 3 designs I've listed in the first paragraph are more of the look and feel we seem to be leaning towards. I would love to see something else!

Fabian - I really like your design and the team liked it too but not as well as the designs I listed in paragraph one. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together for me. It would be great to see another idea from you!

Paula - V4 - I'm glad to see that filling in the cross works on the B&W. This gives us what we need! Thanks.

Travis - V6-This is still not quite it but we like this design so it would be great to see a revision. Can you make the sun half circle extend longer(looks a bit like a frown) and not end in straight lines. Pull the cross down more and also not have it end in straight lines. I'm thinking more like the look and feel of Titania's rays or NHRs sun and rays?
V7-I liked your V3 better. Can you thicken the cross on V3 and try a different approach with the rays? Thanks!

NHR - Welcome to the contest! We like this, clean and straightforward. To change it up a little, can you add more rays and incorporate a cross? If this won't work, would you consider throwing out another idea?

Fabian - I really like this one but it is a little too funky for our rural community. Can you do something a little more warm and fuzzy?

Thanks again designers!

We are rolling out our new name and logo Sept. 1 so we definitely have to make a decision this Sunday. A sign painter is waiting!

Thanks for everything, you're the best!

DESIGNER CHOSEN!
Our team had an extremely difficult time making a final decision because the designs you came up with were so good. We chose NHR's V1.11 for our logo!

NHR - We have a couple minor revisions. Do you want to make those here or in the revisions forum?

Thank you so much designers; you exceeded our expectations!

NHR - Let's just make the revisions here!
This is on V1.11 - We want to "just" have a cross without the sun (but leave the 4 rays). Can you make the cross a little more freeform instead of straight line? Can you try a couple more colors on the parts that are orange? Maybe a red orange and than yellow/gold. Were not sure the yellow/gold will work because we may lose Evangelical Free Church but we thought you may have an idea that works.
Thanks,
Cindy

NHR - We're thinking the cross should be a little thicker and styled somewhat like Paula's (not necessarily how it leans). Can you make the cross a little smaller also? It's finding the right size and style of cross that works with the rest of the logo. I hate to hem you in or send you in the wrong direction because you have a good sense of balance and style so I know you'll find it. Can you throw out a couple options? I like the new colors.

Thanks for the fast reply. We want to get going on this so it's appreciated.

As you can see: all crosses have diferent shape and size,
and every one is shown in latest 4 colour combinations.
Sorry, I was not so fast this time...

Thank you.

NHR-Your response has been great! Here we go:

V1.123&1.124 - Use these two color combos but make the cross smaller and bring it down to just about touching the hills.

V1.11 - Let's see this version with the two new colors P179&485.
And than, do V1.11 again with the two new colors(179&485) and with the cross slightly more solid(don't thicken it, just fill in where it is screened). We're just trying to see what it looks like with the cross popping a little more. Also do the hills on this version in P5565 like you did in V1.1.
I think this will help us to see the changes side-by-side.
Thanks so much,
Cindy

Greetings NHR! - Our final choice is 1.11b. We're trying to figure out a way to make the cross stand out "slightly" more without changing the integrity of the design. Can you try these options:
1) I noticed that you have the horizontal lines and the "top" vertical line on the cross shorter. Can you make these "just a little bit" shorter and let us see this option?
2) Now can you use the one you just revised and add the light blue drop shadow to the cross and let us see this option?
3) This next version will probably not be as subtle but we would like to see this. Can you place the cross in front of the sun? I'm not sure if you would need to join the lines or what would work best.
4) Do you have another trick in your bag we haven't thought of that might work?
Thanks,
Cindy

NHR - Take 1.11b1 and make the "top" vertical line the same length as the two horizontal lines. Also, were the hills in V1.11b in black rather than blue? If so, can you make the hills black in this new version? Now, just get us a B&W version too.
Thanks,
Cindy

Yes, they was, black color is back again:

NHR - Nice! Amazing how a little change can make a difference. I'm glad to see the revisions didn't mess up the look and feel of the design. I have a couple team members traveling that I want to touch base with before I have you send me the files.
Thanks,
Cindy

NHR - We're ready for the download! Send us V1.11b7. I would like to add one option to the mix. Can you also send us the B&W version with the drop shadows screened. So everwhere there is blue will be a screen. We may not use this option a lot, but there may be times it will work. What do you usually send? I am hoping we can get the vector, eps, tiff and jpg files. Let me know if I'm asking for to many files.
Thank you very much,
Cindy

Hello again Cindy :)

You not ask for too many files, of course. Our standard package is everything you said: eps, tiff, jpg.
I need some more clarification about "B&W version with the drop shadows screened", but standard files are ready.
Please, check your Private messages to find download link.

Thank you,
