Hi,

I am a photographer (it really doesn't matter what specialty) and I am looking for a new logo.

The intent of the logo is to create branding. I would also like to use it (or elements of it) as a watermark on photos.

I don't know what I like until I see it. I think it will be easier to tell you what I don't like:

-don't like flowery, bubbly elements in it
-although the clients are mostly females, I'm not crazy about pastel colors

I am looking for something simple, clean, professional looking. I am not looking for just a pretty font (I can do that myself).

Since I don't want to influence you (I like to see your creativity) I will not post logos that I like or my site. The name of the business is Jean Valentin Photography .

The dead line is August 5, at 12:00 AM Eastern Time (USA).

I've seen some cool logos in here and I can't wait to see what you can come up with.

JVP

ETA:

I forgot to mention that the logo will be used in all of our marketing materials, stationery, web site...

I need 2 types of the logo: B&W(for single color printing) and color.

I have Adobe Illustrator (CS2) so a native, scalable vector file will be fine.

Ummm, we're going to need to know the name of the business eh - it's like asking you to take a portrait that captures the essence of a person ... we'll cover their head with a paper bag, but the bag won't be featured in the final image.

Thank you everybody for your submittion. Very creative ideas in here.

I will try to give some feedback one by one:

Skyvee - the graphic looks game like. It looks like a shield.

Taldo - not sure what the graphic represents

nhr - the graphic part just didn't grab my attention.

Jennifer - not sure what the graphic represents

Rongen - when I look at the graphic part, to me, it looks a little like a bird. Can you please try some variations?

Castell - the graphic looks a little pharmaceutical like

Thank you again everybody for your work. Although I didn't want to show any examples because I don't want to influence you, I will post one so you can get an idea of something that I like.

Cindy - I like your submission. Can you please try different colors? Also, can you please have the jv part (the shadowed one) separate? I want to use it as a watermark.

Castell - I like both versions. On v2 can you change it a bit so it has more flow to it? It seems that the curved part fights with the linear part (I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say).
On v3, can you please try different colors? Also, I would like to see the jv part separate (I would use it as a watermark).

I really appreciate your participation (and everybody's else).

Everyone,

I was looking through archives and I found a description (by another photog) which describes exactly what I'm looking for. Hopefully this will aid you in the design process.

Appeal -
1. Professional
2. Fashionable
3. Artistic
4. Does it present a wide appeal to differing age groups?
5. Eye-catching
6. Distinguishing (one of a kind, not a cookie cutter logo)

Usage
1. Does it look good on the website?
2. Does the logo portion look good in the corner of a print?
3. Does the whole logo look good on a bordered print?
4. Does the business card stand out among other cards?
5. Does the logo lend itself to shirts/etc? (Other uses)
6. Within advertisments, print media does the logo look good in black and white and its native colors?

If there are any specific questions you need to ask me, please go ahead.

Thank you.

Thank you for the new versions. They look good.

Taldo - v2 - I like the colors. I like the look. There are 2 areas that I hope you can change. One, is that the "jean valentin photography" part is not visible (when you look at the logo overall) and I'm affraid that when used on small prints or web, it will get lost.
One of the requirements is that I want to use the graphic part (in this case the JVP) as a watermark and I'm not sure that it will look OK (especially since the P from photography is circled). I like the overall feel of the logo.

v3 - I like the look. The graphic part overpowers the writing a little bit. Can you try to even them out a little? Also, can you try the "jean valentin" part in lower caps letters?

Castell - v4 - I don't think is the direction I want to go. Can you please try some other colors on v3?

Thank you.

Hi all,

Since I don't have a winner yet, I will extend the deadline to Wednesday, August 9th.

There have been great designs so far, but I still don't have one that I can say "This is it".

You have to understand that this logo will represent my business for a long time and I need something that I'm 100% sure of.

I know it’s not an easy task for you since there is no tag line or a theme, but I know you will come out with something great.

These are the logos that are going in the right direction:

Castell - v3
Medigraph - v2.2 - I would like to see some revisions on this one. One comment that I got was that the 3 letters look like someone dancing/doing yoga. Maybe try without the "p"?
NHR - v4 - waiting on his revision
Taldo - v2, v5

Thank you for your participation so far. It is much appreciated.

Looking forward to seeing more great work.

Thank you for your submissions/revisions.

NHR - v5.2 - is better but I still get that old writing feeling. I think is the end of the J and of the P (the swirl) that leaves that impression.

Castell - v3.a, v3.c - it looks too busy. Between v3 and v3.b, I still like better v3. One thing that I can't feel, is the color, sorry. I appreciate your new revisions and if you have any other ideas, please show them

Ruairi - thank you for your participation. I like the simplicity, I like the colors. The "photography" seems to be a little off (to the left). Can you please also try "jean valentin" with lower letters? Also, one concern I have is the height of the logo. On my site, the height for the logo is 70 pixels. I'm not sure how it will look at that size.

Taldo - v7 - no more revisions needed; v6 looks better now. Can you please try 2 things: jean valentin in lower letters and different color combinations?

Thank you.

Carlos - v1 - thank your for your submission. It's an interesting idea, but the first thing that came to mind was architect, not photographer. It would look cool as a business card though. I hope to see more ideas from you.

Taldo - v8 - thank your for the revision with different colors.

Ruairi - v2,3,4 - between the 3 of them, I like v2 better. The problem now is that when printing in BW, it's hard to see that there is a J with a shadow. I still like the concept, but I don't have any suggestions about the BW version. Can you please work on some alternatives that will render the logo good in both color and BW?

Ruairi - I like both v7 & v8. Is it possible to have the "V" in the BW version to be a dark gray instead of black (this way you can differentiate better the J from V)

Taldo - I wasn't to clear in my previous post: the line doesn't have to touch the J; start where "photography" starts; also can I see the version with an orange line?

Taldo and Ruari: thank you for your revisions.

Now, the designer that will be chosen will also work on the stationery (envelopes, letterheads..; that will be another project).

Based on the submissions made so far, the following designs are in the run:

Castell - v3
NHR - v4.1 and v4.2
Taldo - v10
Ruairi - v7.1 and v8.1

In order to aid me in the decision making part, I would like to see 2 things:

1. a business card design (2 sides)
2. the graphic part used as a watermark

If you need a picture, you can go to my site under the portfolio (on the flash side) and select the first picture (the dress). We will use the same picture (actually you will :D ) so the comparison will be fair ("www.jean-valentin.com/flash").

When designing the business card, please keep in mind that everything should integrate (business card, letterhead, envelopes) into a complete package/look.

If you have any other suggestions/ideas, please let me know.

Thank you.

In the next day or so, I will make the decision of which design I will go with.

I was hopping that the business card will make my decision easier: it made it harder :D

Great work. It will be a dificult decision to make since all of them are good.

Thank you.

Hi,

First I want to say thank you again to Castell, NHR, Taldo and Ruairi for your hard work. You all presented great designs and it was a difficult task to select one. I am very pleased with the work presented and with the professionalism shown. I will definitely be back for future projects and I will definitely recommend you guys/gals.

The design I decided to go with it was the one presented by Ruairi. I'm not still sure which version I will go with, but I will email you with details of what revisions I would like to see.

I guess the next step is to move this to revisions and finalize the project.

Thank you again to all designers that participated in this project. Your work is much appreciated.

Regards,
Valentin

Valentin,
Thank you for choosing my design. It was, indeed, a very nice and tough contest.

I have received your email and will reply today.

Thank you.
