(Admin code added by Palmer - 761211W)

Hi,

I've decided, fairly late, that we need a more professional appearance for a web-based real estate management software which our company will be releasing shortly (probably mid-august). So, first of all I need a logo.

Requirements
The current logo (blah!) is located at http://www.eiendomadmin.no/ in the upper, left corner. EiendomAdmin is the name of the software, so that needs to be included in the new logo. Also, I like the house as it is an easy-to-understand symbol for real-estate, but I'm open to suggestions.

Target audience
The target audience for the software is companies that own, administrate or sell/rent real-estate.

Slogan
The 'slogan' should be 'www.eiendomadmin.no'.

Deadline
Because of time constraints, I will be forced to end this contest already on Friday, 2003-08-01. All contestants will have until midnight to submit their contributions, and I will announce the winner on Saturday morning.

As said, time is of the essence, so please don't hesitate to post your suggestions. If it's OK with you guys, I would like to wait a little before I set a deadline, as I don't know how busy these forums currently are.

Thanks in advance !

Hello,

Can you tell us if you have some colors that you prefer, or you want the specific blue on your current logo? What format do you prefer for the file? Can we use different types of houses?

Thank you,
Gilles.

Hi guys,

Gilles le Bon

I prefer different shades of blue, orange and grey in general. The format should be EPS or a similar vector-format. And yes, you may use different types of houses (several, even :) ).

Julie
Thanks for your first contribution. Here are my thoughts:

All variations are in general too plain. This especially goes for the text which uses a very plain font. Also, though I like the idea of having people inside the house, it's a little hard to make out that the figures actually are people. Also, one might think it's supposed to look like they're kissing, which isn't a good thing (for this software, that is :) ).

ondarox,

Thanks for your first contributions. Here are my thoughts:

1. The yellow one
It's a little hard to see that the yellow thingy is supposed to be a house.

2. The grey one
Having only different shades of gray makes the logo a little dull.

3. The red one
I find red in a logo to be a little intimidating, though I can imagine it would go well with a web site design using red as the primary colour.

4. The purple one
Purple is not really my colour. Also, I find the symbol hard to make out.

5. The blue one
This is my favorite among your contributions (probably because it resembles our company logo). Still, there's nothing in this logo that says "real estate", except for the product name, of course. But it's simple and has clean lines, and I like that.

I'm sorry to say that none of your first suggestions hit me right where they should've. To give you a better idea of what I like, here's a list of my favorites from your web site.

They are simple, yet communicate their message effectively. I also like the colours, which are mainly blue, orange, grey and black.

Alaska Extreme Distribution
Asymilate
Vinbrooke
Enviro Green
E-archer
Tekheads
Balance

Gilles Le Bon,

Thanks for your first contributions. Here's what I think:

If there are to be several houses, they need to be smaller and less detailed (more hand-drawn - less clip-art). Also, there should probably be different types of buildings as the software covers both homes and office buildings.

Lastly, I prefer to have the symbol in front of the text unless there's a good reason not to. Having it above often makes the symbol unneccessary big, which makes the text hard to read when the logo is shrunk.

Thanks so far guys! Looking forward to your next contributions!

ElKootcho,

Thanks for your first contribution, which I really like.

To improve it further, I would like to see some more colours, perhaps by replacing the blue with orange on one or two buildings. Also, I would like to see some different fonts (perhaps some that are more 'corporate'), and how the logo looks smaller (180px width).

#2 uses three inks.

#3 & #4 use two inks.

ElKootcho,

Thanks for tweaking your contributions. Here are my thought on the different versions:

#2, #3 and #4
I prefer the symbol in #3 and #4 with the orange houses on each side. Font-wise, however, I belive #1 is the best one yet (though not perfect), since the others are hard to read in smaller versions. Also, if any parts of the product name is to be emphasized, it should be "Eiendom" and not "Admin".

#5
Though the product name is very visible (which is a good thing), I don't like the symbol. Too strict. Also, there's too much orange, making it scream a little.

#6

I find the symbol to be a little boring, at least compared to the previous ones. However, I do like the fonts on both the product name and slogan, as well as the blue/grey color-set. Could you try combining these fonts with the symbol from the previous versions?

Slogan
The 'slogan' should be 'www.eiendomadmin.no'.

dynagirl,

Thanks for joining the contest!

I like the idea of having a symbol that illustrates order in the chaos that is real estate management. However, I think it's a little hard to see that the building block are buildings and not, well, building blocks.

Also, the logo is overall a little too plain.

Hi Just_G,

Thanks for joining us!

I like the style of both your symbols. What I would like changed is to have the symbol #1 look a little less cosy (perhaps it's the smoke coming out of the chimney that makes it look like a cabin) and symbol #2 look more like a building and less like a crown.

Also, I would like the turqoise replaced with another colour, the text "Admin" bolder (it's too narrow compared to "Eiendom") and the URL-font replaced with something less boring.

Looking forward to seeing the changes !

Here's my shot. My idea is that the E is a building and the A is the shadow of it. I did this one quickly to see if you liked the concept before I went further.

Hi Victoria,

Welcome to the contest!

A fun idea having the E reflecting an A, but it doesn't really say anything about real estate or communication (it's impossible to know that the E is a building without being told so). Also, please not that the name of the product is EiendomAdmin, not EiendonAdmin.

Ah woops :help: How about if i try and make the E represent a building more. Is it worth a shot? :)

Whether it's worth a shot or not is hard for me to decide, since I don't know how much work you will be putting into it and what it will look like. As you've probably noticed from reading this thread, I already have my favorites. However, that's not to say that a redo of your contribution can't be among them. It's your call, really.

Just_G,
Could I see symbol #1 in front of a text as well, just to get the complete picture? Also, I think that the new font for the URL, or at least the size of it, will make it impossible to read when the size of the logo is reduced.

Finally the symbol looked a little bleek with no filling colour. And I'm sorry to say that it's still hard to see that it's a building.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your latest contributions. Here are my comments.

Just_G,
I'm starting to really like it. However, could you make one more adjustment, which is to choose a less narrow font for the URL, and perhaps increase the letter-spacing to make it fill the same width as the product name.

Victoria,
Sorry, but the symbol is a little too simple for my taste. I need something more graphical, and less "fontish".

Gilles Le Bon,
The fonts on contribution #1 and #3 are a little too outer space. The symbol also looks somewhat like a futuristic outer space city. And I still feel that the lines aren't simple enough. Among the contributions, I prefer #2 because of the fonts.

Today is the last chance, so give me what you've got! :)

Hi guys,

OK, then it's time to select a winner. However, first I would like to thank all of you who have contributed and therebye helped make my decision a very hard one. So hard in fact, that I would like to give special credit to the first and second runner-up as well.

Second runner-up - Just_G
A great looking logo that I would have loved to use for something. Sadly, it ended up a little to cosy for the product in question, but a great design all the same.

First runner-up - ElKootcho
You presented a logo very early in the contest which remains my personal favorite. However, after having discussed it with others, I've come to the conclusion that though the small, crooked houses are great, they might not look serious enough considering our target audience.

Winner - ondarox
With his last-minute entry, ondarox presented a great-looking, professional logo that I belive is the one that's best suited for our target audience. Thanks, and congratulations!

However, before you send the logo it off to me, it would be great if you could take a look at the shadow effect. It seems strange that the shadow reflects only the globe and not the houses, or at least the left one. Also, please make 'admin' the same height as 'eiendom'.

When you're done, please send me the logo (eirik at netmaking dot no) in EPS or AI format (and, if possible, the fonts that make up the logo).

Thanks in advance !

PS. For those of you who also do template design, I would like to notify you that I have also started a contest in the template forum based upon the winning logo. Please check it out here (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=6&t=1157&s=).

PS: I agree with your modifications 100%, good eye :)
