Hi There,
First of all, I'm very impressed with what I've seen in these forums, you guys have some very creative ideas!!! I'm trying to come up with a logo for our company and to make it fair, I've split it up into two jobs. The first one (this one) is based on a fairly mature idea I have for the logo, but I just don't have the skills to get my idea into reality. The second job will be wide open for a number of suggestions and will pay more, but I would like to work with the same person who wins this job, if possible.
Thanks,
Mike

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
SA Photonics

What type of product or service do you offer?
Military communications systems, including RF (radio frequency) fiber optic and laser communications

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
August 10th. I promise not to drag it out and ask for multiple revisions. I'd like to see one "volley" of suggestions from whomever is interested, I'll make suggestions, get one more "volley" and then decide upon a designer. Your time is too valuable for me to waste with multiple design cycles for something I'm pretty sure I know what I want.

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Engineers, scientists and program managers in the government and defense contractors doing military communications

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
I would like a retro-type design, similar to the one in the image that I hope I uploaded (brand new here, so have some patience with me). This image is based on a font I downloaded called Air Conditioner but I don't need a font done. I'd like to convey the picture of a red laser beam going through the light blue font and exiting the end with some sort of small starburst (think of the font made with a fiber optic and you'll get the idea of what I want). The things I'd like to change in this image are:
1) All letters should be connected, even the capitals, at the bottom. The appearance should be of a connected length of fiber optic cable
2) I'm not crazy about the way the capital S and A look, feel free to make them look better
3) I don't like the way some of the letters connect mid-letter, they should all connect at the bottom
4) I'm not picky about the colors, but two colors should suffice. One should be light/ice bluish, conveying the image of a glass fiber and the other should be reddish, conveying the image of a laser beam. Bear in mind that these colors will eventually be "our" colors and be picked up as a theme on our new website so they can't be too garish :)
Please note that for this design, I'm really not looking for anything too far away from the uploaded image. For the next project it will be more wide open. Thanks for checking this out and I look forward to working with you all.

Hi,
I figured I better clear up my initial post, given the confusion I may have caused. I really want a two-color logo, red INSIDE blue, like a laser beam moving through the fiber. The starburst should be at the end, like the laser beam exiting the fiber. Sorry to be so "techical" but we're a pretty technical company.

Medigraph, I like the idea you drew, but with the above changes made. In addition, the first S seems lost in the bottom line.

Others, please submit ideas. I'd like to finish the first "round" next week.
Thanks,
Mike

Senter, still waiting for your entry. All, I'd like to get everyone's first entry by tomorrow. I'll give everyone comments and ask for revisions by August 9th. I need to make a decision by August 10th.

Hi,
Thanks for the different designs. I'd like to get the next round of concepts in by 8/9 so I can make a selection by 8/10.

Here's feedback on each of them, in chronological order.

NHR
All three designs have our name spelled incorrectly. It is SA Photonics. I like version 1.1 the best, maybe if you could refine it a little more? See my suggestion at the bottom of this email.

Medigraph
Liked your second selection a lot. Can you please put drop shadowing on the inside of the capital A, it seems to be missing there. Also, please use a starburst more like NHR or djaka. The bottom part of the capital S is lost in the connector line, can you do something to make it more clear that it is an S?

Rongen
This one kind of missed the boat on the "retro" look. You might want to look at the image that I posted at the beginning. We're looking for a light going through fiber idea.

Djaka
I liked the lettering style of version 2 better, but the solid red fill of version 1 better. The letter t looks like a cross in the version 2, can you please look at revising it?

SkyV
I liked this, but would like to see it with the connecting line between the S and the A and the line between the two o's and the t on the bottom instead of on the top or mid letter. Please look at my suggestion below as well.

In general, I'm wondering if it is possible to look at a design where the red is "embedded" within a more translucent blue. Like a red light propagating through a bluish glass fiber. Here is a bad example I drew up myself, and I would be interested in seeing it applied to some of the concepts.

Thanks again and I'm looking forward to some great ideas.
Mike

All, thanks for your second rounds. Gig, I liked your submittal. Can you adjust it so that there is more space between the SA and the Photonics? Note that Photonics has a capital P.
Thanks,
Mike

P.S. I'll make a decision by Friday, Monday at the latest.

Sky V, I liked your entry, but the end of it needs to look more like a starburst or something, right now it looks like a mouse or something else. I'm going to have the team make a decision by noon tomorrow (Friday, August 11th) so if can have an update by then, great.

Thank you to all for you designs. I thought they were very creative and the team had a hard time deciding the best of the batch. It was a close call, but Gig's is the design that we selected. Congratulations Gig, and thank you to all of the designers who submitted designs. This was our first job and I was very happy with the whole process.
