Hello! Thank you for opening our post!

We need a logo designed for a High-end Children's Shoe Store named "Little Footprints".

Since we understand the deadline is tight, we will be low maintenance - not asking for multiple revisions - and allow you to really express your creativity. We will make our decisions quickly, not dragging the process out.

The project will be quick and fun, your creativity unrestrained. The survey is below (Questions in bold, answers in Italics).

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

Little Footprints (large)
Fine Footwear that leaves a lasting impression (tagline, small)

What type of product or service do you offer?

Children's footwear (sandles, boots, dress shoes and runners)

Product lines include imported Italian and French brands (Primiqi, Oilily, Noel, Minibel etc) as well as Nike, Adidas and Stride Rite.

For children newborn to 10 or 12 years old

How long have you been in business?

New business to open in 2007, deadline for lease proposal (with logo) is mid August, 2006.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

Provide a high-end but playful feel while branding our company with distinction.

What are your long term goals?

To become a destination store for Children's shoes among the elite population of Calgary, AB, Canada.

To prove to be innovative in many areas, including store atmostphere, social responsibility, technical knowledge

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience

Wealthy mothers between 25 and 40, either housewives or busy career women.

Who would you like to add to your audience?

In the future (2009 - 2010) private schools, other retail boutiques accross Canada. These markets are not a primary consideration.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?

One which denotes prestige/high fashion/high class, but is playfull at the same time. Other than these parameters, we would like you to add your own creativity and perception. You're the expert. :)

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

Please avoid a solely pastel coloured design (partially pastel is OK). Because pastel is reminiscent of infant products.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

No baby or children's faces please.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

* High-End

* Vivacious or full of life

What is your tagline or slogan?

"Fine Footwear that leaves a lasting impression"

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

Little Footprints is a different kind of shoe store:

unique atmosphere
unique product selection
unique sales method (educational vs. clerical)

Where will your new logo be used?

In Business Correspondance (for investors, landlords, suppliers)

On external signage, brochures, balloons

On an e-commerce website

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?

CHILD@HEART- No illustrative component to logo (only font)
*Like it but there is too much going on within the font.
*The logo as a whole is too simple

www.childatheart.ca

HIGH STEPPERS - No illustrative component to logo (only font)
*Don't like it at all. Primitive. unprofessional. non-distinctive. *Does not evoke any emotion or messages about the company

www.highsteppers.ca

GRAVITY POPE - Adult shoe store (with large kid's selection)
*Logo does not indicate children's footwear
*Like the contemporary style but too simple to evoke emotion or convey any message beyond the obvious

http://gravitypope.com

What sets you apart from your competitors?

Sales and Marketing Approach
-educational basis; explains children's foot and postural development
-professional and appealing

Shopping Experience
-in-store atmosphere (with children's play area and bright spacious look vs. average shelves of shoes)
-personal attention to parents

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

Focussed on Children

Thank you so much for your hard work and submissions. We're finding that a literal footprint comes accross as too obvious in the logo. We prefer designs such as NHR's V2, which give a representation of our name and add a bit of Vitality. We also like vibrant colours.

Specific Feedback:

Pracus: Not a bad design, but not compelling enough. The footprints need to look more like children's footprints. Maybe like an inkblot?

Gig: Spelling mistake (footprints rather than foodprints). The font is not playful enough and there's not much colour in the design.

NHR: Version 1 looks too technical. Love Version 2.

Keep them coming! :D

We've gotten such a great response from you all. Thanks! We printed all the designs and posted them on our door, then looked at them quickly, from a distance, and in comparison to each other.

We found that, being a retail store, we needed colour combinations that stand out and fonts that can be read at a quick glance or from a distance (from the highway or while walking by).

We also realized that since we will have customized bags and wrapping, we need a logo where the name can be left out and the symbol made into stickers, balloons etc to really help brand us.

Here's some individual feedback:

NHR: Still liking V2, but would love to see it in a deeper colour, so it stands out from far. Can you revise to make the darkest colour used in the design a vibrant red please?

Tini1: The colours in V1 didn't give us the right vibe, but V2 looks really nice. We like how the logo is separate from the name. We find the lettering for "Little Footprints" is boxy and at a quick glance looks like one long word. We really like how the e and r are sort of out of place. Please revise the design with a different font and a space between the two words, if you have time.

Medigraph: Really love how the toes are in Rainbow colours but the footprint doesn't look like a child's foot and the font is too thin to read from far. Can you please revise the design to incorporate a fingerprint-like foot with coloured toes and a thicker font?

Bill: We liked the design, but for some weird reason (that we can't figure out) it reminds us of a pet store that we know of.

Titania: Beautiful colour scheme. It really jumps out. The placement of the letter alignment is cool too. We can't decide if the font is too boxy or not. Can we see it with some other fonts please?

Aaron: We like the overall cohesiveness of the design and how the elements fit together. The name doesn't jump out however, and the font would be difficult to read from far.

Eziey: We like the placement of the footprints in the first version and the solid colours. However, the designs don't have a children's store feel to them.

Castell: Very unique and distinctive. The footprint looks a bit like a bear's claw and it has an outdoorsy feel to it. Love your creativity. Feel free to drop more ideas if you can.

Thanks!

Hi Designers,

Your guys' responses are amazing. Thanks for all the great submissions.

At this point, we are getting close to the deadline and it looks like we've narrowed it down to Titania and NHR.

We thank everyone for their hard work, revisions, mulitple designs and creative suggestions.

Latest Designs' Feedback:

Medigraph: Thanks for the revision. It looks great onscreen, but when printed and looked at from far, it doesn't stand out as much. Also, if we pulled out the footprint as an individual logo, it wouldn't look like an indentifyable brand.

Tini1: New font looks great and thanks for the revision. However, similar to Medigraph, the font doesn't stand out as much from far.

Castel: We prefer version 01_1a to version 01_1. Playful but classy. However, NHR's and Titania's just "grab" us more. We also really liked V02. Lots of colours and a distinctive logo. The logo is too geometric for us, and because of its geometric unity it is reminiscent of a charity foundation. V03 just didn't do much for us. We are looking for more colour. Thanks for your hard work!

Skyvee: Really cool concept and design. Love the hidden footprints. As a whole, however, it speaks more to an extreme youth target market rather than rich, 30 something moms with babies. We wish you had submitted earlier so we could've had more time to work with the design.

Fabian: Thanks for picking up on the Canadian thing. We love Canada, but a lot of our products are from Italy and France, and we don't want to mislead that everything is made in Canada (when in actuality alot of it is manufactured in China :D ).

Bill: Cute logo. Like the footprint eyes ;) . We find that the colours are too primary and the happy face is mainstream. Thank you! (Btw, we found that pet store! It's here in Taiwan and its actually a pet hotel :D )

NHR: We like version 2.3. The colours say innovative and dependable but together, they look playfull. Can we see V2.3 on its own please? (So we can line it up with the others)

Titania: Thanks for the other colours. We've finally narrowed it down to V03 (from before  )

Thank you everybody. If anyone has a design which they are currently working on but have not yet submitted, feel free to send it. You could pull us out of the boxes we're in.

The deadline is still Monday.

NHR,

Can you make the colours in V2.3 brighter please? Also, can you lighten the beige in the bubble? Or, is there any way of getting the beige out of the bubble, but still keeping the bubble? Because, we really like the bubble, but think the beige takes away from the brightness of the other colours.

Thanks so much for your promptness and patience with our requests.

Hello again,

Castell: If you have more ideas, for sure feel free to send them over. If you can take the concept of V02 and make the logo less geometrical, we'd love to see that.

NHR: Can you take the blue underline off of version 2.23. What's your opinion about making the font a bit bigger? Some people have told us that would really give it impact, but we're not sure. What do you think?

Thanks a million.

The last few designs were great, thank you for submitting them. Feedback:

Gig: We really liked the latest design. It's bold and colourful. We were definitely leaning toward a more playful design with childish colours but those were great submittals. We liked the one on the top far left the best. The concept is great.

TravisBickle: Charming and very nice logo. As a company, however, we don't really focus on charming as much as playfulness, innovation, childishness. So, although the logo is really nice, it doesn't give the message we were going for.

Thank you everbody, once again, for your meticulous work and creative designs.

We have chosen NHR as our designer.

I'm not sure exactly what happens next. Do we get moved into archives now?

The logo is almost exactly where we want it. We were just turning colours around in our minds. Can you make the blue a little lighter and brighter please? (V2.34)

Also, can we please try a bright blue (little) with purple (footprints and the footprint). The purple similar to the colour Titania was using. That colour really stood out.

And...a bright red for the logo and the second word with some other bright, kid-like colour?

And any other colour combo you think might stand out and look nice...For some odd reason, we don't like greens and browns in the logo at all.

Thanks so much. After this revision, I'm quite sure we'll be done.

Thank you!
