(Admin code added by Palmer - 81G26505L9026363T)

We are primarily wedding photographers located in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. We is me and my wife/partner.

The name we use is Passionate About Pictures.

Our work is mostly observational (trying to avoid that overused term - photojournalism) and spontaneous.70-80 % of our final images are non-posed where the subjects are not aware of the camera. We also do any and all of the posed family type shots requested of us, but we are known for our candids. We are also known for the happy expressions we capture. 99% of our candids are of people with big smiles or laughing.

Our online galleries are here... galleries (http://www.passionateaboutpictures.com/galleries.html)

For those who may not be familiar with Kitchener, it's an hour west of Toronto in Southern Ontario. The wedding season here is fairly short running from May to October. Potential clients are from virtually all ethnic backgrounds. The economy is very diverese from old order Mennonite farming to the the highest of high tech.

Project Summary:

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

Passionate About Pictures

What type of product or service do you offer?

Wedding photography

How long have you been in business?

14 years P/T, 2 years F/T

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

Establish a brand and build recognition. This is a very competitive business, with a somewhat iffy reputation for bad work, shifty wanna-be's, and unhappy clients. being a one-shot event, clients must trust. Word of mouth is much better, but since we sell a year ahead of time, slower to build business. Appeal to couples with larger budgets. Climb a few steps up the socio-economic ladder.

What are your long term goals?

Build from 20 weddings a year to 30-35 and add portraits, grads etc. in the off season. Akso raise average gross from $1800 to $2500 in 2 years.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

Sept. 15, 2006

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience

brides are the main target, with parents of brides next and then the $$$ people (those who are paying), if they are not the bride or bride's parents.

Who would you like to add to your audience?

I'd laike to appeal to the larger weddings with larger budgets. Brides who *absolutely* must have us as their photographers. I am confident that if they view our work, or meet with to see our work, they'll be our clients. This logo will help drive them to look at us.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?

easy to understand, not too frilly/foofy, timeless

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

timeless, no trendy colors that may look dated going forward. Monochromatic is fine by me. Cuts printing costs.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

no

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

fun, creative, trustworthy, reliable, great value, "must-have"

What is your tagline or slogan?

on our front page, we use the tagline..."don't just tell great stories about your wedding day.. show great pictures"

I know it's a bit too long, but that's the message I'm looking to send... maybe "don't tell... show"

I've also used "effortless photography" before.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

look at our work... we are worth the investment

Where will your new logo be used?

all over... web, card, stationery

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?

most don't have logos. Those that do, are usually text based and homemade.

List competitive URLs if possible

n/a

What sets you apart from your competitors?

2 professional photographers at every wedding...great skill at casual posing when needed... great observational skills for candids... very happy feeling when looking at pictures... convey the joy and happiness of the wedding day... good use of natural light...often hear "that's the best picture I've ever seen of ....." we consistently make people look good... very unobtruisve for most of the day....provide a fun atmosphere... easy to get along with... very accomodating... very intuitive with client's needs...

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

you can trust passionate about pictures to approach your celebration with creativity and to deliver great images, outstanding customer service, and a fun and effortless experience on your wedding day.

Hi NHR...

thanks for your submission..

re: V1.0 - like the heart bit, not crazy about the 2 interlocking shapes. They look like file folders in the color version. Have you got any funkier fonts? That one looks real moldy and the letters don't link up well. Even if you kerned them closer, I just don't like the font. Keep working the heart angle though... that I like...

re: V 2.0 - sorry, I really don't like the shape. too symmetrical or something... the font is again older/boring and I'd rather see the "pictures" part bigger the the "passionate about" part.

overall I'm looking to be less staid, old fashioned... I myself am not a hip dude at all... I mean c'mon I'm 47!

but I love making pictures at weddings...

in this business, much like yours, I'm not chasing old school/money..I'm trying to catch the eyes of the 20ish though 30ish bride (or groom, but not as likely) who see so many visuals in the run of a day...

thanks again for your work... looking forward to seeing more...

Hi again NHR....

I was shooting a wedding today and just saw this...

Did you know I already use that font on my website? My file is called SmartyPants. So I'm pre-disposed to like that part.

I'm still not crazy about the square shape. You're likely trying to represent a picture, but that is just not doing it for me.

Now that I see the heart again, I'd like to see it with only a single line... maybe even solid... not sure...

so...lose the rectangle.... or make it more picture-like (if that is possible) keep that type of font in use, but find me a new one if possible...try some more simple hearts with a single line or maybe even solid...

thanks...

this is a strange process for me... never been through it...

I do this at my weddings, and think nothing of it...

I am going to look around at some US photographer's logos, and maybe show you the kind of direction I'm looking to go in... I'm sure that will that help....

appreciate your continued efforts here...

Hi djaka....

thanks for getting involved with this...

re: V1... doesn't work for me for a few reasons.. the biggest is that if you google " passionate pictures".. you get about as far away from wedding pictures as you can... lots of porn comes up... it was risk I accepted when I chose the name. NHR's v 3 was real close to being no good for this reason, but the about is large enough. I also think the colors don't work well. The monochrome is better.

re: v2 ... I like this better... the stylized heart may be too much of a swirl... don't like the pale pink at all though... would like see more fun...

Designers...can I see some abstract thingies, instead of real things? Like a swooshie, or a swirly rather than a picture or heart or album?

I'm going to place a few of our favorite wedding images in the next message... I'll try to show the energy, fun and happiness clearly seen in our work... that's what I'm hoping to see in a logo...

thanks...

#1 - thank you very much for your kind answer.
#2 - sorry for little delay in response.

hey.. we have a new player joining here... looking forward to seeing your ideas Senter...

nhr - re: # 4... I like this. Am I seeing an eye concept? or is that just me? :)

I have to say though... I hate ALL UPPER case text... I usually prefer all lowercase or mixed... can we try the same thing, but with all lowercase? Might be too small for the colored in "o", but let's see. And how about a vibrant red instead of the blue please.

re: #5 - I don't get the shape at all. Don't like the shape descending below the text that much without undersdtanding what it is I guess. Is it a face?

re: #6 - like this concept too... can we delete the square shape and use a big dot between the "arms" and "legs" of the shape to imply a body. (and sadly, that is my real shape too...) Make the "head" bigger. Again ditch the upper case and go lowercase. Brighter red for the 2nd color.

We're getting closer to what I am looking for. Fun ...

thanks,

hey folks...

been away for a couple of days... let's catch up....

NHR - v 4.1 - like this best so far... but it's still not *yeah* for me...can we scale "about" up to the same size as "pictures" and then scale up "passionate" to cover both...

NHR - v 6.1 - OK, you did as I asked, but now the shape looks like a turtle... how about lose the "body" & make the "head" bigger... just the 5 squigglies...maybe even move the arms and legs a bit closer together...

eziey - v 1 - welcome... took me a bit to understand the icon part... looks too much like a jewller icon to me... my work and rings are not synonomous...

shima - v 1 - welcome, what was it? any reason why you yanked it?

shima - v 2 - hate the pink (as I 've said earlier in the thread... how about plain old red...not liking the font... the ;etters don't flow together well at all... like the heart a lot... don't like the swooshie thing...

taldo - v 1 - welcome too... sorry, but this design looks very dated to me... stale font, stale graphic...

I am am going to extend the deadline to Sept. 6th.

to all designers...

I've been thinking about this process and how it's going... can I possibly see designs using just my biz name and a smile shape/icon... nothing as corny as a happy face, but a stylized smile that shows energy and fun...

looking forward to some submissions using a smile....

hey NHR...

must say, you take direction and input *very* well...

re: 4.2... like that a lot... can we incorporate the smile from v 7 into this somehow? I like eyes and a smile... maybe dimples too? please keep working this idea.... getting closer...

re: 6.2 & 6.3 - I assume 6.3 is the bottom 2... with the text closer to the shape... like that one better... I haven't said much about the color to now... but can we get redder? I see purpley/violet tones... PMS 485 is the reddest red I can find for Pantone. Can you use that? What do you think about passionate being red, and about pictures black?

re: v 7 - as I said above, try to get the smile into v 4.2...

thanks NHR, I appreciate the efforts you're making to get me where I want to be...

Hi NHR...

re: 4.3 & 4.5 - don't like 4.3 because I don't see the smile. Don't like 4.5 because the smile seems "silly" with 2 dimples.

4.4 is my fave here.... the smirk is more to my liking... now that I see this, is there a graceful way of adding another eye to the p and making a face out of the whole thing? I don't think I want a nose though...

may be some problems with proportion though... but give it a try and see if it can be done...

I really do like this direction though...

re: 6.4 & 6.5 - don't like 6.5 at all... not enough room on the "head" for eyes and a mouth.... unless you were just having fun with me :)

6.5 ... can we get the head a bit rounder? It looks almost like a flower now... And now... seeing passionate in red... I don't like it... let's go all black on the text, and red for the shape only...

I'd have trouble choosing between these 2 right now....

but we're getting closer ...

Hi Shima.. looking forward to seeing your next ideas here....

hey folks...

sorry for the delay...

NHR - re 6.6 - sorry, this doesn't work for me with the little eyes on the figure...

re 4.6/7 - not liking the eyes within the word.

re 4.8 - this is much closer to what I am looking for...still not exactly right, but not far off either...can we try 2 things please?

one - move the outer eye closer to the inner eye, reducing the space between them. this will move the smile under the word about... maybe to between the 'o' and the 'u'

second - try the face alone, not using any letters, to the left of the text. again, reduce the space netween the eyes a bit..

also, I have a new tagline I'd like to incorporate if it's OK to do this so late in the process. I am going to try " we get weddings. " as a tagline. note I want a period after weddings.

Shima - re: 5 and both 6's.. I'm not fond of any of these 3. I don't mind 4... can you close the heart? keep the rough shape, but lose the streaky brush strokes? also please add the tagline as described for NHR.

thanks ...

I will be checking daily now as I do want to make my choice this week.

thank you...

Nice to se you arround again, Lorne :)

"smile under the word about... maybe to between the o and the u " not worknig, because smile loose symmetry with eyes. Maybe you want bigger smile... However, 4.9 is something close to this request. 4.10 and 4.11 are for second request.

closer...

-lose the eyebrows
-all red and then all black for the colors of the graphic
-make the eys one element. I prefer the inner piece that has a catchlight in it
-tilt the frame as you did before in 8.1
-add the tagline from 4.9/4.10/4.11, but use the kerning from 4.9 and make the font a "little" bolder

OK... 9.3.2 is what I had in mind. can we lose that final period now as it doesn't have the effect I thought it would any more. What about expanding the frame a bit so that it cuts into the horizontal rule? Break the rule where it intersects. too much? And I noticed this a while ago and keep forgetting to ask about it. There's no dot over the i in passionate, but there is one over the i in pictures. Intentional? Should they be the same?

I like 9.2.2 as well, but I'd like the frame to be as big as all the text, and the horizontal rule stretched to be as wide as the text.

What are the rules here about variations? Do I choose between these 2 now or can I get both slight variations?

1 - eyebrow has been dot over the i in passonate, long time ago. It is back now. Good notice!
2 - you can choose between these 2 (3), but if you like more then one variation, I will give you that what you like.
3 - I am not sure about the rules... but we break the rule with frame in 9.4 (2) ;)
4 - You didn't ask me, but I realy like that what we have now, after all variations :)
