Thought everyone would get a kick out of this... It is dangerous to be a graphic designer in Florida if you can't tell the difference between an alligator and a crocodile.

What a croc!

No, the University of Florida has not changed its nickname to Crocodiles.

It may only have seemed that way to a group of keen fans that recognized the creature on the cover of the 2003 Florida Gators media guide is not a Gator.

The grinning crocodile had no comment, but Florida spokesman Steve McClain said the school thought it had purchased a photo of an alligator.

"We had every reason to believe it was a gator," McClain said late Tuesday night. "Fans and people on our staff began to let us know about a week ago. I mean, that's why we purchased it.

"We asked for an alligator, we paid for an alligator and unfortunately we did not get an alligator."

The cover features Florida Coach Ron Zook leading his team onto the field, but the largest image is what turns out to be a superimposed crocodile.

The school printed 19,300 copies at a cost of just over five dollars per book. The media guide credits GBS Productions Graphics with the cover design.

American crocodiles are distinguishable from alligators because of their olive green color and pointy snouts. Alligators have broad snouts and are nearly black.
