Greetings, I own and operate a small landscape company in the Pacific Northwest. I have decided to shift the focus of my company and have started with a name change, hence the need for a new logo.
The new name of my company is Tropical Landscapes Northwest. I focus on using not-so-common plants and a variety of textures to create a tropical feel in our temperate maritime climate. Basically, I try and turn my client’s yards into a tropical resort.
I need a logo that can convey a tropical feel and warmth to try and get my point across and set me apart from the 100’s of other “normal” landscapers in my metro region. I was thinking of something with bananas or palms or ????
I intend on using this logo for shirts, biz cards, letterhead, and possibly vehicle logos later on. I would like to limit this to three colors to help keep printing costs down but would consider a fourth color if it can create a worthwhile difference. I am thinking that this logo would primarily be used against a white or light gray background. I am open to colors at this point.
If I have left anything out that will help you design, please let me know.
Thanks in advance for your time and submissions.

Wow, that was pretty quick. I didn't expect anything yet and was surprised. I will provide some feedback tomorrow morning when I wake up and have some time. I can see already that choosing will be a tough process as you all are very talented.
As far as the deadline.... I guess two weeks lets say Aug 15, I have never done something like this so I don't know if that is a reasonable amount of time. I have no real urgency to get the logo done, but also I don't like to leave things open and have then drag on.

2 weeks should be plenty of time. :)

Here are my thoughts so far.
Radical: I like the text, it is simple, easy to read. The orange background definitely conveys warmth. However, I have never really been a big fan of seeing an “object” as a letter. Could I see a couple with a “T” in the text and maybe the palm moved around?
Ondarox: Both of your submissions look very crisp and professional. I prefer the two leaves in the top post but could you try something with the text resized some. I would like both “Tropical” and “Landscapes” to jump out at me, “Northwest” can be smaller.
JulieT: I like the palms. Could I see a different Font, something a little cleaner and maybe increase the size of the text? Would it be possible to brighten it up a little?
Thanks
Julie

Ok, some more feedback…
First some general comments, the more color I see, the more I like the designs. However, this creates a dilemma. I am going to a print shop today to check out pricing again. If the difference is not that much, I am going to lift the restriction on the number of colors. If it is too much, I am going to have to tighten the colors back down. For right now, I would limit the number to 4.
JulieT: I really like the look of #3 above. Could I see it with “Tropical” stacked on top of “Landscapes” above the logo? And, maybe with the logo from #4 and the text from the modified #3? The only concern that I have is the number of colors in #3.
Ondarox: I still like the look of the leaves and the coloring that you have used. It is clean, sharp, and professional. Could I see some with “Tropical” stacked on top of “Landscapes” to the right of the image? This would reduce the overall width of the logo. Also, the state is really strict with contractor’s advertising and I think that I have to have “northwest” below the other items in my company name, so that it can’t be mistaken for “Northwest Tropical Landscapes”
J-design: I like the sun with the palms inside of it. That hits the warmth and the tropical right on the head. Could I see that a little larger with the text inside (all or partially) of the sun? I think the neon green on the text isn’t exactly calling out to me though. I know that I mentioned in an earlier post to brighten it up, but I think the neon green outlined by the orange is a little too bright.
Just G: The font and the text are nice. Could I see some different foliage to enhance the tropical feel?
Again, thanks to all who are participating. You are definitely a very talented group and I am satisfied with this process so far.

Been a busy week but still here with a little feedback…
J-design: I like the way your going, the negative palms are something that I didn’t think of but I like. I would like to see a capital “L” for landscapes and also ditch the cursive. Maybe using the blue that you selected or some black for the text so that it will really jump out of the image?
JulieT: Your revisions look pretty cool. I can’t really offer any suggestive feedback because I like it. I guess my only concern is going to be printing costs. I know that you only used 3 colors (with different shades) but the print shop did not share you point of view.
Just G: Your text still works for me, but the image is lacking. I’m not sure what to suggest other than what I have already said to the others above. Maybe palms, sun, banana leaves?

I understand. Just in case, though, you can tell them the Pantone colors I used--
1235U at 35% and 90% -- the yellow
7495U at 60%, 70% and 100% -- the green
7505U at 50%, 80% and 100% -- the brown

J-design: Sorry about that. I like the image in the post at the top of page 2 where you titled it "you've been tangoed".
What I meant was using Blue or Black for the text so that it stands out more. Also, I prefer block text for the whole company name. No cursive for “northwest”.
I would like each word to start with an upper case letter. Also, I need the word “Northwest” to either be below the other text or to the left of it.
“Tropical Landscapes Northwest” or
“Tropical Landscapes
Northwest” or
“Tropical
Landscapes
Northwest” ?
Basically, I like the image at the top of Page 2, but some different text. Thanks.

J-designs: Sorry, I should be more specific, I meant this design with the blue, I didn't mean for you to re-do another couple of designs.
ALL: OK, tomorrow is the deadline. I will be taking the "finalist's" to the printshop in the morning for some quotes. The final decision will be tomorrow evening. Thanks to all who took the time to enter and had the patience to make changes.

Ok, this is it. First I would like to say that this was a tough decision. All of you that submitted designs do very good work.
The winner is going to be the orange and blue (orange semi circle over the waves of blue) design by J-Design.
J-design, I will send you a mail.
All others: again, thanks. You all do good work.

Thanks but seems I got it totally mixed up - I thought I was posting for a current contest that has Keywest in their company name as well then first thought "oh no, contest has ended" then got to the right contest, thought"great, it's still running" and then, *after* posting my entries there realized their name isn't Keywest *Landscapes* but Keywest XYZ ....:D :D
I'm getting old it seems
