This project is for a small, simple Flash image to be used on our website. The site is not done, but here is a link to the thread from the Design Outpost project forums. The image I am refering to is the image on the home page of the final design (message #34, among others shows the image) http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11163&page=2&pp=30. I have also included a file of the image that is currently being used in the site (it is the file titled "home image"). I would like to make the static image into a Flash element. The deadline on this project is as soon as I get a design that I like, within reason of course.

The basic idea I had in mind is to have various images fading in and out instead of just the static image. The Flash image should remain aproximately the same dimensions as the current image because it has to fit in the same space.

I am also providing some images that I like and that I have permission to use, but the designer will most likely need to have access to other images to use as well. I would like the images to refelect the types of clients that we have. We are a payroll processing company as well as a commercial insurance provider that deals with many different types of businesses, but primarily small businesses and LOTS of construction contractors and restaurants. Good examples would be carpenters, doctors/ dentists/ vets, florists, chefs, painters, plumbers, hair salons, professional offices such as lawyers and architects, bakeries, and auto mechanics.

I would like for the images to fade in and out very slowly. I don't want the element to be a distraction, I just want it to spruce up the look and feel of the page a little bit, but still be fairly proffesional and conservative.

Please feel free to ask me any questions that you have and I am certainly open to any creative input or ideas that you may have as well. Very much looking forward to your submissions.

Have I bid too low for a project of this type?

What is your deadline? I will update your project title and that should help so the Design Team knows how much time they have to enter.

I whipped up just a basic lo-res gif version of the 'rest' of the site and put my Flash element in, just to show how it may look.

I've put the images on 6, 8 and 10 second pauses, before fading into the next.

Thanks very much for your reply and I appreciate your work on my project. That's pretty close to what I am looking for. The only chages I'd like to see are in regards to the choice of images.

For the larger image, I would like to add one more image. Something to break up the two construction images a little more so that there aren't ever 2 construction images in a row. It looks like you may have used stock.xchng for some of your images, so here's one that I like that might work for this if you crop it some (just a suggestion, you don't have to use it)--http://www.sxc.hu/photo/558042 or you could also use the attached image in my original post called "suit and tie". Feel free to try any others you like as well though.

In regards to the smaller images on the the left, I would like to get rid of the construction image where they are digging and the microscope guy image. I have included image files for 2 images that might work in their place (an auto mechanic and a florist). The auto mechanic image is low res becuase I have not purchased this one yet, but if it works in the design I will go ahead and purchase a high res image for you to use.

Lastly, the smaller pictures on the right are all okay. The only thing I would like to do here is change the timing of when the construction guy image appears so that it does not appear while there is another construction related image appearing at the same time. There is one point in the current design that has 3 construction images showing all a the same time--I would like to avoid this.

I've put in the new images, and hoepfully that thing where there's two construction pictures at the same won't happen nearly as often. Since the images are changing at different times, sooner or later it'll happen. I hope that's OK?

The mechanic guy just looks kind of creepy to me. I'll need to look for a new image. The only other thing is I think I would like to slow down the actual fade time to have the pictures fade in/ out a little slower. Not the time the images are visable before they fade out, but rather the time it takes for them to actually fade in and out. Nothing drastic, just slow it down a tiny bit.

I'll look for an image to replace the mechanic and I think we'll be about done. Feel free to post any picture suggestions if you have any. Thanks.

How about this guy instead of the creepy looking mechanic?http://www.sxc.hu/photo/445747

Yeah, the creepy mechanic reminded me a little too much of Bruce Campbell, haha.

I've switched him now to the painter. The image was a bit too strong/contrasty, so I took a bit of colour out of it, and fiddled with the levels, so hopefully now it doesn't stand out from the rest of the images as much.

I've also slowed down the fade time for you. A good test, I found, is to try and read the text and see how much you notice the animation, and I think it's slow enough not to take the visitor's attention.
