Hello all.

First, I'd like to compliment Design Outpost and all that contribute here for a fantastic place

I need your help with a logo for my company: Lawn-Scapes of Maryland, Inc.

I'd like to keep it simple.. yet classy. Maybe cursive or curvy look to it with Lawn-Scapes on the first line, of on second and Maryland, Inc. on the third. I don't think I want block or bubble letters but am open.....

My color scheme is a little wacky with a maroon truck, white enclosed trailer and dark green tee-shirts.

I will need this for truck and/or trailer, business cards, tee-shirts, Quickbooks invoice, letterhead and website: http://www.lawn-scapes.com (replacing what's there).

I want to thank everyone in advance and hope to pick a winner by Sunday, August 17, 2003 (long enough?). I will try to follow up in the evenings after 6 EST.

Thanks,

Tom

Um, I know everyone else will tell you this, but you need to be a member of the design team before you submit anything!

(Hey everyone btw, I've been here for a bit, but first post!)

Lawn-Scapes,

As the first person to host a contest here, and as a fellow green industry person, you can trust what I'm telling you. These folks are good. But just like any other creative process (like designing a landscape), there is time needed to think of a concept, then time needed to put that concept to graphics, which can sometimes be a laborious process.

I tell all my clients to not expect a drawing from me for 2 weeks. Give the creative folks here a couple days to start generating some ideas. They'll come through for you.

They always do.

Stone..

I have been observing the work done on this site and have no doubts about the creative minds here. I am anxious and hope to see something soon. I hope to see entries from everyone.. especially Elkootcho, JulieT, cre8or & dynagirl.

Tom

BTW.. Your website is looking good!

I too get a little anxious. Some wait for the end of the deadline, and some do specific work. I have always walked away with awesome designs and the ones that I didn't chose were very good also. The hardest thing to do here is decide. Just remember the Heinz commercial, "good things come to those who wait" ;)

Well, cos, unless you're running a banner contest and I'm the only person entering ;) I'm not the best banner designer in the world. Some of the others will do a great job for you, though!

Anyway, Tom, here's an entry. I was trying to go with classic--and all but the last are only 2-color designs. Feedback would be greatly appreciated. I can keep going with this concept or create something totally different!

Julie

*edit* By the way, I was thinking the maroon design could go against the hunter green t-shirts and the hunter green against the maroon truck. They're really nice colors together, in my humble opinion :)

j-design.. Everyone here does nice work. Not trying to slight anyone. I'm looking forward to your entries.

Julie.. Looks nice. Can I see Maryland, Inc. inside the artwork.. with the same style lettering?

Here's a revision. What do you think?

Okay.. now I'm getting excited :)

fmavituna.. Thank you for your entries. I like the first three but.. I'd like to see darker/bolder colors. I don't like the blue.. maybe changing Maryland, Inc. to red? Can you make the grass blades look a little more natural?

Julie.. I like those better. Can we get a little more seperation between of and Maryland, Inc. Would also like to see how it looks in all cursive lettering. Can I see something totally different from you too? Thanks!

To everyone,

Some other things to consider.. I'd like to maybe see the Maryland state shape somehow in the logo. Maybe in the background as a watermark? State flower is the Black-eyed Susan and state tree is the White Oak.. maybe an oak leaf?

Thank you.

Tom

Here's another...

Julie.. I like the lettering and layout in 9 & 10 but not yet in love with the oval graphic. Enties 11 & 12 are nice but not what I'm looking for... kind of reminds me of a Christmas card.

Let's forget about the maroon truck and focus on the white enclosed trailer...

Something different..

j-design.. Love the logo  but not crazy about the lettering. Would like the emphasis on Lawn-Scapes. Can you play around with the text and positioning for me... please.

Thanks

Julie I appreciate your efforts and I feel terrible giving negative critique :( That said.. I don't like the last three.. sorry.

Darkened the green a bit to add a bit more impact, also changed the font layout and style. Fonts/colours can be changed.

j-design.. I like the darker color on the artwork. Can you show me some other fonts? Can you also show me some variations i.e.. the artwork smaller, text on top, to the side, on top and underneath, etc..?

Thanks

08-12-2003, 07:10 PM
namdesign.. thanks for your entry. Can you change to a smaller group of grass with the darker colors? The lighter colors are getting lost. Another text maybe?

j-design.. I like number 3 the best. Can you show me what the whole logo would look like in maroon?

fmavituna... I like the first one best. Have any other ideas?

Julie.. I like both of those. The first one is SWEEEEET! Focusing on the trailer... can't think of any reason to change it. Any way to make it work on the truck too.. would the blues work? Maybe golden-brown bars and just reverse the maroon to white and white to maroon?

Thanks to all involved!

Anyone else?

Julie

I'll add a few more samples shown against a maroon background tomorrow to give you an idea of what they'll look like. Would you like it against a dark green, too, for the shirts?

Thanks,

Julie

Julie.. I think I would get new shirts. Either maroon or off white or a light grey.

To give you an idea of what they'd look like against the truck and shirt, I've got some options in different colors against both light grey and maroon.

Suggestions are always welcome :)

dynagirl.. Thanks for your entries. I like the first one and would not change anything. 2A, B & C.. are not for me.

Julie.. I like the blue against the maroon best... how 'bout you? Can you make the state maroon against the maroon background?

j-design... I like it. Can you make the maroon look more like maroon.. plum/purple?

I appreciate all the work everyone is doing. I think I'd like to add a few more $$$ to the prize to show my appreciation... Can I do that?

I hope to see a few more entries.

Thanks all.

Julie

Yes, the blue and maroon would be my first choice--it's a tried and true color scheme. The blue is quite striking against that maroon.

After looking at the change you suggested, I really do like it. What do you think?
