Hello Designers!

We have a good project for all the creative artists. We have tried to give all the relevant information below, and we will follow the work in the forum, so you can always ask if there is something missing.

Maria Poulsen is a company over 100 years old. We are a wholesaler of equipment and materials for heating, ventilation and sanitation. We also have a large metal workshop and pluming department.

We also have one store selling bathroom furniture and one gift store, selling cutlery, tableware and all household accessories – so we have a very broad business, with many markets and different customers.

We need a new logo. The logo will be used by all 3 different departments, (giftshop, bathroom shop and the wholesaler) so the logo must be fairly neutral. We like our old logo, but we can see that it needs a makeover. We would hope the new logo could have some features as the old, for example the same green color, but let’s see where it goes.

One idea we been having is to get a symbol into the logo, so that the logo would have our company name and a symbol. The symbol could be some artistic version of “MP” (short for Maria Poulsen) or something else, (circle, line, dot all is possible). The symbol should be able to stand alone, without company name. But the main goal is to get a new logo, with both name and symbol. To use the symbol alone is second option.

Because we are an old and respectable firm, the logo must also reflect this, so not too flashy and festive.

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Name: Maria Poulsen and also a symbol

How long have you been in business?
Over 100 years, since 1889

What type of logo would you like?
Visible, simple and with a professional look

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
To show that although the company is old, we still are a competitive business partner. Also to get our brand more public.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
5th December 2006 (we can extend or shorten depending on the entries).

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Dark green is our company color. So if you change color it has to be extra good

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
No – perhaps MP, but surprises are welcome

Please describe your existing audience
Builders, constructers, architects… and everyone with a bathroom or running water, and in our gift store the audience are all homeowners… so it is a very broad audience. Our audiences is therefore businesses and private households.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Reliable and trusted business partner

Where will your new logo be used?
In all our marketing on Television, Internet, newspapers and our one leaflet – signs on buildings – and in different correspondents

Hi Bill,
Thank you for the entry – it is close to what we have been thinking about, and we like it. It is hard to put words on what is missing when we don’t know the final product. :)

But perhaps it is too simple or elegant, and is missing some identity.

Regarding the dark green color, we should clarify, that the green color we have used so far, is not a specific color, just dark green, so do feel free to use other dark green colors, color-mix, fades or other effects that you think may help.

WOW – there are a lot of ideas. Overall we think that the logos, specially the symbol are very close to each other, we hade hope for a more broad variety of entrees. Perhaps this is our mistake as we made comments to Bills entry. We do not have a favorite yet so keep on the good work.

We are looking for a logo that is simple but however stands out.

There are so many entrys so we can not write a hole page on every one, so it will be a short text. Therefore is it not a good idea to “overinterpret” what we write – sometimes it just is our first impression.

Now for the individual comments, hope all will learn by the comments we give to the other designers:

Message #2 – designer: Bill...
As we said, we like your idea. The symbol is good, and the font is also good, but there is something missing – hard to say what it is. Perhaps it would be too elegant / simple for our gift shop, perhaps a more soft font – we hope you will give it a second chance.

Message #5 – designer: BlueCherry Graphics
Not the best one, the symbol is nice, font is okay, but the color purple is not to our likings.

Message #6-7-8 – designer: Mediagraph
3 good entrees, specially ver. 1.0 & 2.0. The symbol is good – the font is also good. But the overall impression is that it is to upper-class. It gives the impression that you have to take your hat off, before you enter our building, hehe. The font is too exclusive. But perhaps a softer font, in the text would help

Message #9 – designer: tini1
Nice to see one logo with out a MP as a symbol – but we would like to have a symbol – the font is nice and also the color. One other thing is that our company is located in a community with many fishing and marine corporations so that logo might be misunderstood.

Good alternative symbol, nice font. Looks better in black then in green. But don’t think it works, sorry.

Message #11 – designer: freetime
Also a nice symbol – dont like the green color, but it looks nice in black – the font is good, but it may be hard to see from a distance, as it is wide with slim fonts.

This would be fine to our gift shop, but not to our construction branch, sorry

Message #13 – designer: Deanna
The font and color good, but the symbol is not it – the half circle is also nice, as the logo is a persons name, with the circle it makes it more into a BRAND. So that is good.

Don’t like the color, or the symbol – but like that you have shorten Maria Poulsen into 2 lines, as we have a long name – also the font is nice

Yes, I did try and post a design, with the symbol and several different fonts, but I was informed I had to submit them seperately. I'll try again with a 'warmer' font, and maybe play with the symbol a little.

This time it is much harder to give comments as the entrees are much closer and we are starting to close inn on the final one- but we still have not chosen THE ONE, although some are close. So more entrees are very welcome.

We still like your version, specially version a and c. But perhaps it still is a bit to up-class, or conservative. Hope you will get some inspiration from our other comments.

Your entrees look too much like racecar logos – we like that the fonts are clear and visible.

Giftshop: lighter fluffier and fun

Bathroom: here’s were the water shapes really come into play also it’s
tap like quality.

Wholesale: more serious in nature, aimed more the tradespersons.

Here's my logo concept. This logotype is a custom font made by me just for your logo, meaning it will have a unique typeface that will stand out from the rest.

I made three typeface weights for you to see which one accomodates you the most.
