Hello Everyone!
I would like to thank every designer who participates in my contest, as you all are very talented. I would also like to thank Palmer from the outpost network for having a wonderful website and helping me with my questions. Currently, I am designing a website for an online wine store for selling Illinois Wine & Accessories. The name of the company will be Illinois Wine Cellar. I need the logo done before I can start on the site, because the logo will determine the colors used on the site. When the website is done, the website will be located at www.illinoiswinecellar.com
I do understand that designing a logo isn't the easiest thing in the world, so therefore, I will explain as much as I can in what type of logo I need, and answer any questions any of you might have. I will also participate in giving as much as feedback as I can to those who post their logo samples. I believe that when designing something for a client, you need to know likes and dislikes and reasons for them, so here they are.
To get an idea of Logo's I dislike take a look at these:
http://www.winerackstore.com - I shouldn't have to explain..
http://www.vinefinds.com/?iorb=4764
http://store.yahoo.com/topwine - I don’t care for the boxed in logo types.
http://www.wine.com – For such a big site, the logo has poor use of colors and just doesn’t look right..
http://www.winehq.com/ - I don’t like the font type, nor the wine glass they have, could have been done better..
http://www.premierwines.com/ <- I like the drawling of the wine glass, but this logo is way to plain
********************
And for my favorite of course, check out illinoiswine.org for their logo. I like this logo because the use of colors in it, the drawling of wine glass and grapes next to it. This logo is very simple, and in my opinion, it's one of those logos you'll remember. I don't want to copy their logo or anything, but it's a good start for ideas.
********************
Here's something to remember when doing the logo...
*Something simple, something people will remember perhaps.
*Background should be white
*Use your imagination, use colors & fonts that you think look good. Lighter colors will probably be more appropriate in this situation. (Light purples, light grey) Again, the colors on illinoiswine.org are nice. You can use different fonts for the 3 different words if you think it looks good.. It may need to be typed long ways because of the fact that Illinois Wine Cellar is a long name, and will need to fit on the layout that winestuff.com has, so if it’s tall up and down then I’ll have a lot of open space in the header.
*Logo will be used for the web, letters, business cards and possibly logos. (So I will probably need a .eps file from winner)
*A logo that will look good on the layout that winestuff.com has, as I believe this layout on this site will be similar to the one I use on my website, so the logo should look good when small.
*I don’t have a slogan at the moment, I don’t know if we’ll have one, but if you think a slogan would look good with your logo sample, you can make one up in the place that you think it should be, otherwise, if we do come up with a slogan, we can place it somewhere else on the website.
*You can draw graphics such as wine glasses, bottles, grapes, or anything that comes to mind. But don’t overdue it, it needs to be simple, but extraordinary..
*Prize is $50
*Of course, the winner can post the final logo on their website or portfolio if they'd like.
I don't have a deadline set, as I want to give everyone time to post their samples that want to. I would like to pick a winner by August 26th (2 weeks from today). But if I see something I really like, I will give a 2 day notice before I end early so everyone gets a chance to post.
Good Luck! I will be looking forward to working with everyone! If you have questions, please reply and I will get to them as soon as possible.
