Admin code added by Abby - 4P828878BS573934D
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Makan Makan (main text) Local food express (sub)
What type of product or service do you offer?
Local food and drinks
How long have you been in business?
6 Years in F&B, but this kiosk is a totally new venture
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
That the kiosk is a friendly and Bustling place
What are your long term goals?
To be able to duplicate the concept to other areas.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
5/12/06. But I will extend a couple of days if something suitable still hasn't come still.
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Office Workers and ground staff. Age 25-50 yrs old.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
We are selling food that is cheap relative to the competitors around us,yet we want to appear professional still. So the logo cannot appear too "classy".
Our kiosk location is a high traffic area, so the logo must be very Visual to catch the attention of the passerbys. The main text - "Makan Makan" should be clear enough to be able to see from a short distance.
We want to appear friendly and interesting, so the logo should reflect that. Overly serious, classy, professional is not the look we are going for.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)Nothing Specific, but the entire colour scheme of the kiosk will follow the logo, so do bear in mind how the colours will look across the whole place.
I am also not a fan of too many colours, so just a couple of main colours will do.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I would really like to see the designer's interpretation of the place. But i would like to see something food related.
What is your tagline or slogan?
Local Food Express
Where will your new logo be used?
Refer to attached pictures

Just some things to add on:
Makan Makan means "eat" in our local language. We are selling local food and drinks(coffee&tea) etc.
Please refer to the pictures on the opening thread to get a feel for the kiosk and food.
Can you guys just drop a note to let me know you are joining in?
Thanks!

Opps... forgot to mention that I am from Singapore. So by local food, i mean singaporean hawker fare. Not sure if it helps.

Some examples for inspiration!
eg1 - Bright and Visual. Do not like the fonts of the subtext "pinle" though.
eg2 - Simple and nice. A little bit too safe and straight forward for what I have in mind.
eg3 - The YAKITORI font looks fun. Some artwork styled like the old man in the bottem left corner will be fine also.

Thanks Djaka for starting the ball rolling!
Comments:
- Ver 1 seems a little too untidy, especially with the second makan inverted. I am also not crazy about the man.
- I like Ver 2 better. I like how the plates, fork and spoon is incorporated in the logo. Can I see the subtext (Local Food Express)added in? Can you also add an outline to the makan makan font?
Thanks!

Thanks Djaka for the revisions.
-Still deciding whether the logo looks better with or without the outline.
-I like the old colour scheme slightly better though. Maybe something a little more striking
- can we see the "local food express" in another font?
Thanks.

Thanks for all the excellent entries. Everyone has provided something unique for consideration.
As it is getting late where I am, I will leave the specific comments to tomorrow. Instead, I will leave some pointers from my conversation with my contractor earlier in the day.
The logo will most lightly not be mounted on the kiosk, but will be made as a stand-alone standing lightbox. I have attached the picture concept.gif to illustrate. Hence, the shape of the logo must be taken into consideration. I like Medigraph's Font, colour, and style.. but something like that is too wide.
I also mentioned about how the logo's colours will influence the kiosk's colour scheme as a whole(refer to "concept.gif too), so please bear that in mind when choosing the colours. I have attached kiosk1.gif for you guys to experiment as well.
Thanks for the effort! I will try to come back with the comments asap.

Sorry guyz for the late comments.
Djaka:
Thanks for the careful revisions. Ver 2c looks much better than the original now. Very modern, and neat looking while keeping an element of fun in it. Fonts are clear, and people can see straight off that we are an F&B outlet.
Only drawback is that it will not contrast strongly against white. We do have plans to put the logos on cups, serviettes etc that which are mostly white in colour. It seems to have too much of white spaces too.
Can I see it on a slightly stronger shade, and against some different backgrounds?
Bogglins:
I like the how the colours work for your version. It is also very bright, and will contrast nicely when printed as a sticker or used on cups etc.
The fonts for "makan makan" are alittle bit too rough, and cannot be seen clearly though. The shape of the bowl is also incorrect. It seems more like an earthen pot. Something like medigraph's bowl seems more appropriate.
Medigraph:
I like the fonts, looks very local. Colours are alright, and the bowl turned out well also. Very stylish.
I actually like the first version better. Now it seems to have too much of a red backround, especially with a thin font. I also do not like how the "local food express" is seperated.
J Johnson:
The whole look seems too edgy, due to the excess of sharp edges. Fonts are not really clear, and the swinging bowl might be interpreted wrongly.
Fabian:
I like the bottem part better than the top. The running plateman don't really work for me. Maybe you can replace the man with something else?
Inti1:
Cute and fun logo, but there are too many things going on here and it is hard to focus. (chef hat, cutlery, plate, smiley). The plate also looks like those safety boats that you see on boats.

Not that I prefer it, but i am quite suprised no one used chopsticks in their logos since singapore is in South East Asia. hehe.
Hope to see your revisions soon and once again... great job! feel free to put in other concepts if any spring to mind!

So glad to see new concepts being thrown up!
Here are the comments:
Djaka:
Still waiting to see other colour variations. Something more contrasting might be refreshing.
Mediagraph, Fabian:
Still waiting to see any revisions from my last comments.
Offbeatdesign:
I like the first one better, but can u try to change the fonts to something else? This seems too simple. I would also like the "makan makan" to feature more.
Can I see it in other colours?
Bogglins:
The bowl still seems a little off. It needs to be rounder at the bottem, something like what mediagraph did.
Locally, bowls are matched with soup spoons and chopsticks, while plates are matched with forks and spoons. Maybe u can try a chinese soup spoon and chopsticks with another bowl?
Fran:
The logo looks very modern and neat, and I think something like that would turn out nice as a signage. However, it seems a little bit too simple. Can you do anything else to it to spice it up a little? something bolder?
Tini:
The logos still do not work for me. The first concept is a little bit too cute, the second is too pale. Maybe something else?
Julie:
Like Tini's first entry, the logo seems too cartoonish and do not work for me. I am looking for something more modern looking.
IDarwish:
The K is over emphasised. I also do not like the words being reflected this way. Over all, seems to have too many things going on at once. Something more straight forward will be appreciated.
Paula23:
The chinese character is correct! Thanks for throwing the refreshing concept up in ver 1 and 3. Made me rethink the company name. Hah. I do find it interesting to see the chinese character there, but it seems to be more "wordy" right now. Still undecided on whether that is something I want.
I like what I see in ver 2. Nice fonts, layout and colours.
The problem is same as bogglins though(Refer to comments on bogglins). That seems to be chopsticks on a plate. Can you change it a little?

Sorry Mediagraph. I guess I wasn't clear enough in my earlier post(msg 23). Here goes.....I liked the fonts and style of the last revision, but not the layout as it exposes too much of red. I also do not like to see the "local food express being seperated up.

Happy New Year everyone! Sorry that this took so long, but there were so many designs that me and my partner liked that we cannot decide.
Even til this final decision.... there are still many that come close!
We have to make a decision still... and we are happy to announce Paula23 as the winner! We particular like the concept shown on msg #40. What won us over is the chinese character that was included in the design.
We do have things we still hope to change though.
1) There seems to be an equal emphasis on both the chinese character and the "makan makan". It is hard to focus at first glance. I have troubles with people asking me whether my company name is "chi"(the chinese character) or makan makan. Can the chinese character be more like a watermark, or a little more abstract?
2) the overall feel is a little bit too static. Can I see another font of the chinese character? maybe like those u see in chinese seals or calligraphy? Look at http://www.chinapage.org/calligraphy.html for reference.
3) Maybe the orange circle can be taken out and replaced with a semi brush stroke or something.
4) some colour variations?
Thanks Paula! The choosing has taken abit longer than expected. Hopefully we can see some revisions from u asap as we hope to wrap things up soon.
