Hello,

I recently purchased the gay.la domain and am in the process of coding a guide to gay and gay-friendly bars, clubs, events, parties, etc in the Los Angeles area. This is a $150 contest for a site template.

I'm looking for eye-catching colors that match, but have no specific color requirements ( http://www.knorrpage.de/colormatch.html is your friend). I'm open to either a black or white background (or maybe even dark gray).

I like the horizontal header followed by a horizontal navigation bar style. A column on the left, in the main part of the page below the header, would be helpful for some page overview content. Whether it is connected seamlessly to the header or not is up to you. It won't be used for a sub-menu -- just some content and maybe pictures or ad space.

The navbar should include: "Home", "Events", "Bars & Clubs", "Discussion Board", "Live Chat", and "Community Resources".

I also need a table in the main content portion of the page with the following fields: "Date", "Event Name", "Description", "Age Req", and "Rating", of which the description field is the widest.

Finally, there should be "about" and "contact" links at the very bottom of the page.

There's no need to spend time on a logo -- I intend to open a logo contest once the template is done. (Normally it seems to be done the other way around, but I'd like to give the template designer more flexibility in size and color, then have the logo designer match it)

I like the colors and styles of this phpbb template: http://www.phpbb.com/styles/styles_demo/index.php?s=74 (but not so much the fonts in the header or navbar -- body fonts are cool)

Hope that's specific enough. I'm really just looking for something eye-catching and eye-pleasing -- targeted at the 18-35 male demographic. If you use an image for a header background, symbols that scream LA would be cool -- the skyline, ocean, palm trees.

Thanks for taking a crack at this! I'm definitely willing to give the designer credit on the site once it's up -- I expect it to become rather high profile (though not necessarily profitable he he).

Deadline is a little over 2 weeks -- August 29th. I'm heading out of the country on vacation tonight so I won't be able to give constant feedback, but I'll certainly try to do so every few days.

Thanks all!

Are there any takers on this?

Is there a $$$ issue, or ... ?

Thx,

Template contests take longer to get going due to the length of time it takes to make a template from scratch. It will pick up in a few days.

really like the layout and colors -- especially the header design. very slick. my only request would be to change the main portion of the layout a bit -- it looks a bit too cookie cutter/professional/corporate for a culture/social site. is there anything you could do to make it a bit less boxy? p.s. nice portfolio, keep up the great work B)

xteriormotive-

that design is sweeeet. i'm still keeping my eye out for new/updated entries, but it looks really really cool. if i think of any constructive words, i'll post em next time i check back.. but it really does look great.

thanks all. sorry for the delays between feedback.

xterior,

I know this is not my contest, but I brought Xref here... I wouldn't mind seeing you throw the pride colors into the gay la in the upper left area where the your guide bit is... I am a big fan of the black/white with a tiny bit of color....

Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Purple in case you forgot ;-)

brian, killer design.. i like the header, menu bar, and left "latest events" section a lot. anything you could do to spice up the "title of page here" text/area and the events table layout? i'm not quite sure i like the orange background for "event", and was looking for something a little more creative/decorative for the table layout. if that area could be developed a bit, it'd be awesome.

also just a heads up, i'll be back in the US on Thursday, a day before the deadline. if there are any new entries i don't get to take a look at before then, i may extend the deadline a day or two.

thanks again for working on my contest :D

Well guys, it's the day of the deadline, and I'm strongly leaning toward xteriormotive's design, with koolbrian a close second.

Gonna run all of the templates by a couple of friends, and leave the contest open till the end of the day (US Eastern) for any final entries and/or finishing touches, then announce a winner.

The amount of talent here really is amazing.. you guys rock.
