Seraphim, City Heritage, São Paulo

Site
We would a new skinning of our heritage site for the general public which is OK but very blue. The idea is to have a new design with an intimation of the old layout and to retain the same number of content blocks.

* We would like more teracotta and pastels and simplicity. We would like to retain a little bit of blue #003366 and to have less prominent green. You can pick colors from here:
http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/1607/newcolll0.th.jpg (http://img300.imageshack.us/my.php?image=newcolll0.jpg)

* We would also like a better horizontal menu and breadcrumb solution

* Here is the logo we will be using
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/7682/angeled7.th.jpg (http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=angeled7.jpg)

http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/379/angel3os4.th.gif (http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=angel3os4.gif)

* Any of these Flickr photos can be used for the big main photo http://digbig.com/4qaka

* We need to retain the red banner strip at the top and the two logos on the right. The psd with a transparent background is attached.

*It is a 100% liquid layout and so horizontal degrades/graduations/fades and full width photos are hard to incorporate.

www.dc.gov (layout)

What we have used until now
It is a 100% liquid drupal layout with a fixed lefthand menu, two-monthly changing main photo, monthly changing highlight (destaque), highlight archive (middle bottom column) and dynamic content on the right.

Thanks it is a top job!

There's a lot I like about the design and you have overcome most of the challenges. The base colours are very well done and mesh well, the blocks of color are well toned and elegant. The right hand box designs are excellent, connecting titles and borders and reemphasising the logo.

There are a couple of explicit layout issues:

- The top bar has to remain VERY faithful to the original. We have no contol over it :-( and can only slightly bend rules. It needs to retain the original text, colours (Red,Black!) and cannot include breadcrumbs or search. The box is a jump menu to other .gov services.

- Therefore we have a homeless search box and breadcrumbs :-(

- The temas menu will be repeated throughout the site and needs to be on the left hand side to retain its priority/identity

Aesthetics - Header
I would rather there was no photo permanently embedded in the site infrastructure because it will clash with other buildings on internal pages. A pattern solution would be best (no clouds please) maybe the logo could be mined for elements again.

I like how you made a less dominant main photo but there is now an awkward symmetry with the thumbs below. Could it have rounded corners or be incorporated more with the Destaque? Could the mini headlines below be made to seem less regimented

How would you see the header expanding and contracting when the browser window size is adjusted? I cannot see the current elements (logo, photo, badge) working together.

Aesthetics - Logo integration
The overall style could be tweaked to fit in better with the logo -- it is a stylistic point of reference for the design

The sky *colour* works but there is a photo/drawing clash. We can maybe alter the filter colour over the angel from lilac?

Layout
Woops, we lost a column and switched to more of a blog style. I see the simplification. I would prefer the balance of simplification to focus more on elements than structure but I understand that the left hand menu thing mightg be too much to crack.

I really like the footer but would like to let content fall out of site - so no need but include it anyhow.

Last bit - Participacao doesn't need shadow.

So in summary - Many brilliant ideas and solutions here. I looked at some of your other designs think we are already on the same wavelength.

To win us over: Header fix and a rough demo of any left hand Temas menu ideas/ possibilities

Photocharmkit, from your portfolio, seems to have some useful elements or inspiration.

Hello, How about the modification?

Really spot on. I would like a couple of *slight* tweaks but that is very close to perfection.

Thanks very much ----- You won!

Hi Aliska!

Nearly there! These are the three things - :)

(Snapshot 1) There is some abiguity with left hand and right hand "rails" that mark the frontier between content, breadcrumbs, border and boxes. Could you think of a way to make them either (a) more distinct or (b) less distinct

(Snapshot 2) Can you make the watermark on the destaque encroach more (double?)

(Snapshot 3) Searchbox please! on either (1) Breadcrumb bar - beige or (2) Fundap/Governo bar- blue. I would like rounded corners, internal shadow, 10 character width@ 12px

Thanks!

Aliska - You have captured all of what I was asking in Seraphim 05.jpg. Many thanks! I have one *final final* request.

You did excellent streaks and tracks in the header.
http://telonio.com/do/hdr_aliska.jpg

The definition and depth is already perfect. Is it possible to use two elements to compose it? Niemeyer´s memorial (1) (http://telonio.com/do/01.jpg) and Luz Station (either http://digbig.com/4qaka or 2a (http://telonio.com/do/02a.jpg) or 2b (http://telonio.com/do/02b.jpg) or 2c (http://telonio.com/do/02c.jpg) or 2d (http://telonio.com/do/02d.jpg))

Exactly the same style as it is now but with different swirls. Very whispy, very figurative, very discrete.

Here is a very very bad sketch of possible underlying elements and in no particular layout order.
I would be happy with *any/either* curve (2a/2b) or tower (2c/2d) from the luz pictures I am linking here.

Gratefully
