Hi,
My name is Andrew. I'm looking to develop a logo and product packaging for a new product I've developed called 'Bust The Boredom' Cards. The cards are used to entertain kids when families are traveling. See attached brief for further details.

My company is called IQideas Ltd and my flagship product is the iQube Boardgame and Puzzle. The company logo, the product logo and the product packaging were all designed on this site. I have been in business for 2 years and export to 5 international markets outside New Zealand. See www.iqideas.com for more details.

I'm looking for some flair and creativity for my next major project however I have a deadline of the 14th of December because I need packaging produced for a Toy Fair at the beginning of February.

Feel feee to ask questions.

Logo and Packaging Design Assessment

Project Summary:
I need a logo and product packaging for a product called ‘Bust The Boredom’ Cards. The ‘Bust The Boredom’ cards are a set of 18 playing cards, sold as a pack, with 50 ideas for how children can entertain themselves when traveling, on holiday, or on rainy days. See website http://www.busttheboredom.com/products for picture of cards. The packaging design needs to be able to be printed on to a tin (incl a base and lid) which the cards will be contained in. The exact dimensions of the tin are still to be confirmed but they will be roughly 4 inches x 2.5 inches x 1 inch deep

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

Bust The Boredom

What type of product or service do you offer?

Quality Educational Products. Incl the IQube Boardgame and Puzzle (Logo and packaging developed here)

How long have you been in business?

For two years. Trading as IQideas Ltd (www.iqideas.com). This product is new to the market however

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

Develop a distinctive brand that can be sold under the IQideas Ltd banner

What are your long term goals?

Global distribution for a range of quality educational products

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

14th December

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience

Our target audience for this product is mothers and parents of children aged between 5 and 15

Who would you like to add to your audience?

Travel Agents, Service Stations, Airlines

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:

Fun, family, educational

What type of logo would you like?

One that communicates the above values

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

a combination of the really colourful rainbow colours of the BTB cards themselves and the colours of NZ – blue sea, yellow sand, green hills, brown hills, snow on mountains)

Tonya, please feel free to post.

Regards
Andrew

Excellent start nhr. I like your very first post the best.
Three comments however.
(1) It needs to be 'Bust The Boredom' with 'The' as a capital T.
(2) Can you emphasis the “B” & “T” & “B” in Bust The Boredom somehow without changing the color of the letters
(3) A key element of the cards is that they're attached to a piece of fabric that can be worn around your neck (see http://www.busttheboredom.com/products for details). It would be good to have this emphasised somehow in the logo.

Senter, Look forward to seeing your post.

Thanks for posting both of you.

Pracus, a fun playful looking logo.

See comments made above which a added before seeing your post.

Can you incorporate the look of the product somehow into the logo and also place emphasis on the B,T & B in the logo.

Thanks

Hi Andrew,

Great to see you pushing on to new products.

Keeping the message simple, colourful and playful this execution, while suitable for the specific product may depart to rapidly from your existing style. Let me know your thoughts.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi! Here's my entry. Thank you! :)

nhr, now you're talking. Looks great. Can you try changing to a more 'relaxed' font. The design itself looks great however.

Pracus, I'm not sure the execution of the neck strap is quite right. Perhpas it could underline the words rather than come over the top. Could you perhaps post a couple of alternate executions.

Ratbaggy, a bit too radical for the product I think. I'm really looking for something that shows off the products qualities at bit more. Feel free to post again please

Skyvee, thanks for your post. Clever the way you've created the 'S' in Bust. I'm not sure the different colored words allow your logo to read easily. I like your B&W better than your color. Can you please try again with a consistent color.

Thanks all. Look forward to seeing next posts.
Andrew

Thanks Skyvee. It's not quite right but I'm not sure what it needs. I might leave it there thanks.

nhr & Pracus, can you please mock up for me the logo as it would appear on the packaging and include the additional wording below.

I'd expect that most of the words would need to appear on the bottom (base) part of the tin not the lid

Packaging dimensions roughly 4 inches x 2.5 inches x 1 inch deep. In leiu of exact dimensions please use these as given. I can make slight modifications later.

Additional wording to include in the packaging;

Tagline
"Small enough to travel with, Big enough to last the whole trip"

Turn traveling into a fun learning time for your family!
Inspiration for those moments when the kids ask:
• “What can we do now?”
• “When will we get there?”

Hello again, Andrew :)
Please, tell me which one of presented logo versions you would like to see on the package?
Thank you in advance.

andydb

nhr, version 5 (the last) is your best.

pracus, version 3 (your last) is your best.

I'd appreciate it if you could both work on the second part of the brief and place your logos within packaging and add additional copy as detailed above.

Thanks
Andrew

I'm not sure if you requested a metal tin package but... here is my colorful proposal so far :)

nhr
12-12-2006, 05:34 AM
I will be able to show you my package design latter today.
Thank you for understanding.

p.s.

One more question in meantime: package is horizontal (like Pracus created it) or vertical?

andydb
12-13-2006, 12:21 AM
Sorry pracus, I should have specified. The packaging needs to be vertical. Think of an old fashioned tin cigarette box. Can you please amend accordingly.

nhr, look forward to seeing your post as above.

Andrew

Yes, I am, via e-mail. Logo and package. I have no final answer about package.
This is reason why I am not 100% sure about status of this project.
But, you probably can archive it. If he some day need something, I am here :)
