Project Summary:

Text included: UNETWORKS, can make it Unetworks (how I've been spelling it) or even U Networks. Whatever you feel is best considering the feel I want.

The slogan I'm working with right now is "Your IT Partner" but that's bound to change so don't focus on that being in the logo, if you come up with something better, please let me know!

Services:
Target market: Small-medium businesses.

I help companies avoid the lost revenue that occurs when their computers are down. My main product is flat-rate IT services. For a fixed rate, you don't need to worry about anything tech related in your company.

Been in business:
Startup/planning phase

Communication Strategy
I want to be seen as dependable, where they are letting me do the worrying. I also guarantee a lot of things and it's ME taking the financial hit when _anything_ goes wrong.

I'd rather have a personal feeling logo than a big business logo. But I would like to also come across as being large enough to handle ALL their needs.

Stable and reliable, yet personable and approachable. (It's almost like saying I want something fast, cheap and reliable. lol)

I'm not sure how much of this can actually be put into a logo. But I'm sure you geniuses will come up with something.

Usage: Web site, business cards, stationary, clothing, vehicle

Colors: I don’t want to bias any of the designers, especially since I'm not the only one judging them. Blue/green/orange/red are ones I'm fond of.

Style
I'm a sucker for that "web 2.0" look. But I my opinion isn't worth as much as my target markets.

Might want something computer related included, but I cant think of what.

Deadline:: Not sure how long it takes to build a logo. I'd like one in the next week or so, but can wait up to 4 weeks if needed.

ahah, clever :)

my mind is open to anything right now.. i'll hold judgement until i have others to compare with

i'm not sure how well my slogan works, more than one person has already said it looks like your "it" partner. suggestions for slogans are encouraged.

Not sure what the general feeling is on adding .com to anything, but that is an option as I own the domain.

Here's my first concept. Playing on the U with a finger clicking on a mouse.

Here's a second concept. Interlocking U and N to create the logo element.

Buhler

Senter: like the slogan

OffbeatDesign: #7 not too big a fan of the finger on your first one
second logo #8 is "unfriendly" to me.

Senter: like the slogan

Thanks I will continue to develop other concepts for you if you feel my first submission will not work for your needs.

I think it has a very strong brand potential.

The 4 people I showed it to didn't like it as much as me. I definately like where you're going though.

Two didn't pick up on the mouse bit. The others said it was nice, but boring.

I'm afraid if the mouse is made more obvious it may ruin the look. What do you think?

I will try a couple variations of this to see if we can get in the right direction.

As far as the colors go I think they are appealing. Still has a corporate look but not as plain as the good ol "corporate blue".

version 4

best so far. better attempt at making the "U" look "friendly"

the font makes it look a bit old fashioned, but thats only my opinion.

version 3: not liking it. logo is too spread out, don't like the drop shadow.

thanks :)

Thanks. I can revise the font if you want and give a few options. I would suggest contrasting the sans serif font of the "U" with a semi serif font for "networks" to help it stand out. The semi serif font also gives it a more stable feel (or it can be seen as old fashioned).

Sure, give it a try. I had the feeling you used it for that stable feel.

some random thoughts:

I initially wanted the name You Networks. Emphasizing the personal aspect.

This doesn't mean a big finger pointing at YOU though. :)

Here it is with a more modern font in place of the serif. I also added orange to the tagline

Not liking the design at all. Sorry.

What's some more info I can give you guys to help?

I thought you liked message 14 and 19. At least that's what you posted.

What kind of direction do you want us to go in? Can you give examples of logos you like that you think match the style you're looking for? Thanks.

OffbeatDesign: definately my style, unfortunately nobody else likes it.

Senter is definately on to something with the computer object. I will do some brainstorming to come up with more ideas for a brandable object.

I attached my current business card. Was done by a friend quickly (he says) years ago. About 2/3 of the people I give it to compliment me on it. I don't see it though. Looks sort of like the Staples easy button. Some customers have said I should just name my company "Help". Maybe I should of.

Thanks both of you for your ideas thus far.

Too bad, I liked that last one.

Here's something more computer related.

Senter: I really like what you're doing with the mouse, but the more people I ask, the less people can understand that it's a U or a mouse. Most don't even recognize either even after over 10 seconds of looking at it.

OffbeatDesign: Your version 2 and 3 has been peoples most favorite so far. I don’t like how much space version 3 takes up. Version 2's symbol is kind of neat, but it's not "friendly" to me. It's very readable though. Version 7 doesn't work for anybody.

Is my feedback helping at all? I don’t envy your jobs interpreting what we have in our minds artistically. :)

Cheers,
Dan

Dan,

Thanks for the feedback. I think the problem for me, is that the feedback has been conflicting. I understand the process of showing the logo around, but sometimes too many opinions can get in the way. Your initial reactions to my designs was that you didn't like versions 2 or 3, but you liked 4 and 6. The people you showed it to liked 2 and 3.

As far as your last comments, I can reduce the space that version 3 takes up. The symbol can be moved to the left as well which would work for web use. Just because it's shown above here, doesn't mean it can't be flexible when you use it. Most logos have a few different versions for varying applications. What do you think is unfriendly about version 2? Is it the red and black coloring? The type? Let me know what you think and I'll try and revise.

Thanks.
Jeff

If you have a logo in your mind please try to describe or show what it is you have in mind, it'll save a lot of back and forth and potential hit an misses.
As OffBeatDesign has touched on ... how many are the 'we' you refer to? The more people involved in approving a direction for a logo or brand, the more likely the result will be diluted and potentially reflect a patch work identity.

It's obvious I need to spend some more time developing what I want in a name/logo/identify before getting you guys to help.

Can I put this project on hold for the time being? I've just started talks with someone to help develop a brand identify and he will no doubt give you guys exactly what you need to know.

Developing the brand is what we do sir. Some of us are not just designers. So the brand depends on what your key goals are in your industry among several other items as well as what your are trying to convey to the general public with your visual elements!

Just to clarify ... designers (logo, graphic or otherwise) should be involved in the development of any identity/image strategy as early as possible. You may have initially misunderstood exactly what you could expect working with creative designer/s to develop your message, brand or product - that's fine, it's also our role to educate you as to WHAT we do, and HOW we do it.

Sometimes, as in this case, it seems the cart has been put before the horse, i.e, developing a logo before having a solid structure and understanding of what your business/brand objectives and direction are. That being said, I (and others at Design Outpost, I'm sure) look forward to assisting you to discover, develop and surpass those objectives. The more information you are able to provide, the better an understanding of the business and objectives we will be able to get and hit the ground running with.

Cheers,

Paul
