(Admin code added by Palmer - 476692Y)

This contest is worth $450. If it is not unreasonable, I would like to see the contest decided by August 29.

The current site can be viewed at www.AmericasHealthChoice.com (http://www.AmericasHealthChoice.com).

America's Health Choice (AHC) is a Medicare HMO in Vero Beach, FL. Our main audience is seniors, 65 and older. A secondary audience would be prospective employees (doctors, IT staff, adminstrators, etc.). We like the current color scheme but we are open to any other suggestions. I put the current site together but I am a programmer and only have minimal/technical design skills, so feel free to make a complete departure from the current design. The current content will remain but we will also be adding additional information soon, including feeds from information vendors.

The winner's entry will include the following:
1) All Graphic Source files (Photoshop or Illustrator preferred) and any fonts used
2) Sliced Images and HTML
3) Templates for Index page and a Content Page.
4) Optionally a username/password login area (but we don't have any functionality for this yet)

A flash header would be nice, I would really like one but I'm not sure it would be good for our audience.

Our CEO wants something very professional. He likes the following websites:
Humana (http://humana.com)
WellPoint (http://wellpoint.com/)
Centene Corp. (http://www.centene.com/)
Oxford Health plans (https://www.oxhp.com/)

I am attaching our logo in gif format, feel free to style it up for the website (I have a pulse going thru the ekg line on the current index page). If you would like the photoshop files you can download them here (http://www.americashealthchoice.com/AHC_Full_Logo_HiRes_Layered.zip).

Feel free to ask me any questions, I should be monitoring this thread pretty regularly over the next couple of weeks. Can't wait to see what you all do for me.

Good Luck! ;)

With a demographic of 65 and older I would say flash would be a major no no.

Just my $0.02.

I might have something for this.

Here is a quick one I threw together.

So we're talking larger fonts and easy-to-use navigation, as opposed to eye candy.

Out of curiosity, what's wrong with your current website?

I'm fast, but you're faster, Palmer. :)

Lang,
I don't know that there is anything wrong with the current site. There's just nothing great about it. We definitely want the index page to be more informational (as opposed to the big blue egg that I currently have). We're about to start linking to health related articles and I think that would go great on the index page.

I agree with the need for larger fonts and easy of use. I wouldn't think eye-candy has to be ruled out just because the users are over 60 though.

Here's a template that we considered before coming here: template 1 (http://templatemonster.com/show.php?templ=2753&cat_type=search&type=1&arg1=doctor&arg2=&order=date). We didn't want something that a dozen other sites might be using though.

We're not opposed to eye-candy at all as long as it doesn't get in the way of functionality.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi ahc :)
Did you want to stay with a blue color theme? and on the homepage did you want an area for news feeds and links?

ahc
08-17-2003, 11:55 AM
Juneau,

We are not tied to the current color scheme but I would like the colors not to be too dark. And yes, we would like a place for news and links on the index page as we will soon be linking to health related articles.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

I'll start in on a template for you later this evening. I finally have some time to get back into the whole DesignOutpost swing of things...

Best regards,

Chris,

Two questions...

1) Is there somewhere I can go to get the type of news feed you'll be using in the future?
2) Do you need some form of "log in" link off the homepage? Just so I can find a place for it in my design, if required.

thanks

Hey Geof-

I just noticed this when going back over my design idea: #4 I think applies to your one question? Hope that helps.

Geof: I don't have the format of the feeds yet but I image it will be the standard:

HEADLINE (<--- link)
blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah (more link)

And for your second question, yes, we would like a login/password spot... but it can't be integral to the design because we won't be using it right away.

xteriormotive: I like your first attempt, thanks for getting us started. The "health care from the" part looks a little muted. I'm going to have a few others look it over and I'll get back to you with some more comments.

I adjusted that tagline so it is more vivid.

Chris,

Here's my entry into the contest. I took the liberty of making some minor adjustments to your logo so it would fit nicely into the design; if this is inappropriate, let me know and I'll change it back to the regular look. Also, I pulled content from various parts of your current website, so any modifications required to these areas can be made at your request too.

thanks

Finally it's up. I did this design before you had posted the info regarding which areas you serve, etc. so if you'd like to see some adjustments to this look in regards to those items, let me know.

Good morning everyone,

I got a late suggestion from our marketing people.

If you can, work it in to the front page that we serve 7 counties here in Florida (Brevard County, Broward County, Indian River, St, Lucie, Okeechobee, Martin, and Palm Beach county)

Also that we have won the "Senior Choice Gold Award" for 2002 & 2003 awarded by HealthMetrix Research,Inc (http://www.hmos4seniors.com/hmoaward.htm).

Thanks, I should have some feed back by this afternoon.

I forgot, we also need to have it prevalent that we are AAAHC Accredited (there is a logo on our current index page (http://www.AmericasHealthChoice.com)).

I've gotten a few reviews in and the majority opinion is that the design looks a bit disjointed. The logo can be edited to fit into the design as long as the heart symbol is used. Currently it looks cut and pasted and out of place. Maybe try another concept or shift this one around a little bit.

Thanks,
Chris

Sorry didn't see that you had uploaded your entry. Initial thoughts: I really like it  . The only thing I see initially that needs to be worked in is "a staff model, Medicare+Choice HMO". It doesn't have to be part of the logo or anything but I think legally we have to have that. Sorry I didn't mention that before. I'll get a couple of other people to take a look and I'll get you some more feedback.

Everyone:
Please work "a staff model, Medicare+Choice HMO" into your designs.

Hey Ryan,
Don't sell yourself short. I like it. I'll get some other to look at it but I need the original heart with the ekg line. I don't mind if you mesh it with your design but that part of the logo has to stay the same because it's trademarked. I'll be back soon with more comments.

Also, what are you thinking for a content page look?

I love the colors, not too busy and easy on the eyes. The flag background is a really nice touch, my boss liked it.

Ryan:
I like your original logo better than ours but unfortunately I can't change it either. Could you clean the heart up a little to make the edges not so sharp? Maybe just the vector heart in PhotoShop?

Raja:
Thanks for entering. I like the clean up you did on the logo. I'll get some feedback from my coworkers and you'll get it tomorrow.

Chris,

I just read the revisions to your last post, and found out that some of the comments you'd previously made about my design weren't even for my design :)

So consider this an adjustment based on what was said prior to early this morning...I swapped the logo up for your complete version, added an Awards & Accreditations area, and dropped in some other content as per your request. Hope this all works out for the better!

I should add that the image used as the place holder for the Flash is a free designer's composite provided by Getty Images. The rights to use that image would have to be purchased by yourself if you wanted to stick with it.

I think I'm going to look into getting an image to replace that one if we go with one of these 2 designs. I called Getty and it would cost $575 to use the image for one year on our site. I'll ask my marketing department if they can get a similar image using our physicians. Besides, I just realized that they're standing in front of a snowy background and we're in :furious: South Florida :furious: , we're lucky to see 50 degrees down here in the winter.

EDIT*** Yes, i've understood. that's "Rights-managed" . I thought this pics from some CD (Digital Vision, for example ) That's why price is so high. here (http://creative.gettyimages.com/source/search/resultsmain.asp?source=quickSearch&brand=allbrands&selImageType=7&chkLicensed=on&chkRoyaltyFree=on&txtSearch=doctor&subSearch=Begin+search&UQR=lhvveq) and here (http://www.fotosearch.com/faq.asp#rm)
What are Royalty Free Images?
Royalty-Free images are images that can be used multiple times, for almost any usage (refer to each manufacturer's licensing agreement for exact specifications). Royalty-Free image pricing is based only on size (not usage) and there are never additional fees for using the image. Royalty-Free images can often be purchased with other Royalty-Free images on discs for an added value.
What are Rights-Managed Images?
Rights-Managed images are images that must be licensed for a specific use. The fee for these images is calculated from several factors including size, placement, duration, and geographic location. Rights-managed images are licensed for a specific use and cannot be used for any purpose other than what is specified when licensing the image. If you are looking for a unique image then look to Rights-Managed images, they will often provide a more distinct image than will royalty-free.

CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE TEMPLATE WITH BLUE ADDITIONS (http://www.brianstudio.com/Designoutpost/health/template/template2.htm)

Notes
- The template may take a long time to load, it's because the template is all one big image ( because it is a preview ), seperated from the nav bar.
- You can view the nav bar mouse overs effects...
- I am not sure about the colors, maybe a bit too red/grey. Do you want me to add some more colors ? ( blue or whatever ) ?

Please, give me your feedback, and I will make all the necessary modifications.
Thank you for your interest :)

It sure is fun being part of these contests again. All these months away from DesignOutpost, in corporate land full of strategy meetings and conference calls, made me forget what a cool place this is. It's just rad to be able to jump back in and design for design's sake. Thanks Chris for a great contest.
