Design Outpost Creative Brief Worksheet

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Soaring Eagle Academy
We have also used but are not committed to: Interact, Think, Learn, Achieve, Soar

What type of product or service do you offer?
A school that provides a social and academic learning environment for students 3-15 years of age with Autism and related disorders. We will eventually serve students through 21 years of age.

How long have you been in business?
We are not currently in operation. We are opening in Fall 2007.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
We are just at the beginning. We want to express professionalism and a deep understanding of children with disabilities

What are your long term goals?
1. To be a functioning school in Illinois serving children and families
2. Pubic relations and media outreach for funding of the school program

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
End of January

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Primarily parents with children diagnosed with regulatory, sensory and autistic spectrum disorders.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
Donors, School districts, therapists

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
One that reflects hope and belief in children with disabilities to achieve academically and socially.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Not really – We do want to be different from many of the private schools that use blue or blue and yellow. We do want the colors to provide a feeling of calmness, stability, grounding.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Previously, we used a soaring eagle and we would definitely want to keep an eagle in the logo. Additionally, children or a school would be options.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
We are a school.

What is your tagline or slogan?
A place where children with autism and related disorders learn to soar to higher levels of learning.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Hope for a future of learning for children with disabilities.

Where will your new logo be used?
Brochures, letterhead, business cards, website, and all packets developed by the school to provide information, raise funds, etc.

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
We will be the first non-public school in Illinois using this type of approach. Other programs in the area that serve children with autism include:
Giant Steps
Helping Hands
Easter Seals
We would like something that indicates we are a school.
List competitive URLs if possible
www.giantstepsillinois.org
www.hhrehab.org/childservices/autismschool/default.htm (Helping Hands)
http://chicago.easterseals.com (school section)

These are two similar schools that use the same methodology (not competitors) located outside of Illinois. Our program and services will be similar
www.celebratethechildren.org
www.thelionheartschool.com
www.rebeccaschool.org/index.php

What sets you apart from your competitors?
We use a relationship-based approach with children and families called DIR® (Developmental Individual Relationship Based). This approach sees each child with autism and regulatory and sensory disorders as unique with individual strengths and differences. We focus on developing the whole child, active, experiential learning, small class size and a respect for parents as integral partners in their child’s education.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

Hope
Joy
Interact
Learn
Achieve
SOAR!

Thank you! We look forward to seeing your design.

We think this is a good start. The school looks like a church though.

We like the 2nd version w/o the gradient. The gradient makes it hard to read.

The colors are ok. Do you have any other ideas about color - maybe green. We like that the colos are different from most primary colors we see for schools. We are interested in why you choose those colors?

As for the type-face (font), do you have any ideas for something a little more "standard" or less fancy (for
lack of a better word) because for reproduction purposes we will lose some of the design I believe.

We look forward to seeing your ideas! thank you!

We are split about this design but do not like the color scheme. Something with more color or boldness. Also, the eagle looks more like a vulture. We look forward to your changes.
Thank you

Fabian - we like this design too. Unfortunately, we cannot use orange (or red) and yellow combination. There are a number of similar organizations with these colors and we want to be different. Any ideas there? Please no blue. Also could you move the words around so they are more clearly visible. We are mixed on the eagle. Could you make it a bit less abstract so we could see it this way.
looking forward to your changes

Fabian - No unfortunately we do not. Unfortunately,we only know what we don't want. I know we have said no blue but a light blue symbolic of the sky would work. We also like green or any colors that symbolize calm, grounding or as with the eagle soaring. I hope that helps

Hi - Could we see this in some color variations - possibly more bold colors. We like green , purple or any variation. We like the circle and the soaring eagle. Our methodology uses cirlce of communication so although I believe you were representing the moon the symbolism works. Looking forward to your changes. Linda

Hi we really like this! We are looking for a little hidden symbolism in the background purple design. Could we see it with a circle or a few circles in the background - use your judgement. Other possibilities would be a book, school, mountain -children with special needs have to overcome many obstacles to soar. Please leave the words - Is that an army color green?
Thank you - Linda

This is the first time we have done something like this so I apologize for not having a clear enough picture initially. We want to convey a warmth through our design for supporting children and families. I am not sure the eagle itself or at all can do this. I would like to see the image have children in it, the font more rounded and the color combination to be warm. Maybe blue and green would look good together? I like the symbolism of the book. To me it says children with challenges can learn. I also like the eagle which symbolizes soaring academically and socially but maybe it needs to be smaller and not the focus of the logo. Please have the words I really like them! Linda

Yes, we would like to make some changes -
1. We are concerned about the black and white copy look. Could the background work if it was not completely filled in? Or possibly you have another idea
2. Font - how do you think "comic sans whick would look or a more rounded font. We would also like to try Soaring Eagle on one line and Academy below. Also, Please increase the size on think, learn, achieve soar about 20% or so.
Looking forward to the changes

Hi Linda! Any feedback on the revisions? :)
I will get back to you soon. We really like the changes. I think that the font for Soaring Eagle needs to be a bit smaller (10%?) so as not to overwhelm the rest. Academy is a good size but needs to be the same type of font as Soaring Eagle. I would also like to see the words think - learn, etc in the same type of font. Do you know where we could get an idea of what the colors look like. I know screens varie depending. The color green was changed on the second version. I really liked the initial green color - it was a great combination. Lastly, could you make the eagle just a little bit smaller. Thank you - Linda

Hi - I think we are almost there. Thank you for your patience. Our favorite version is 04-C. I was able to get a PMS color wheel and we prefer 376U vs.the 377 U.
