I seek a logo for a law firm / consulting firm that deals strictly with intellectual property (i.e. patents, trademarks, and copyrights). You can see my current logo at www.ipadvisors.biz. I want something that portrays professionalism, but may also incorporate our goals of helping clients build and protect their intellectual property. While I contemplated the pyramid shown on the website as a general theme, I am not stuck on that. I welcome thoughts on what other structures / images portray an asset / building / protecting / technology.
The name of the firm is IPAdvisors (all one word).
Welcome,
We will need you to fill out these questions http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7819 and then copy and past the questions and answers into a message here in your project. This will help the Design Team better serve your project. Thank you

What text should be included in the main part of the logo? IPAdvisors
What type of product or service do you offer? Intellectual Property Legal Counseling
How long have you been in business? As an attorney, 8+ years; as IPAdvisors, less than one year
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity? As my company is growing, I want to select a logo now that I will keep for years. I anticipated retiring the pyramid logo.
What are your long term goals? Become a larger firm with a much more significant client base.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer? I am somewhat flexible. I would like to have the logo sometime in the next month or so, though.
Audience Profile: I have visitors from people looking for intellectual property counsel and contingency IP representation.
Who would you like to add to your audience? I basically want a more sophisticated logo, and eventually a more sophisticated (flash) website.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like? Something that demonstrates building / protection / professionalism / technology.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?) I don't have any in mind. I know what I don't want (i.e. pink, certain pastels).
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo? None that are definite.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business? see above - professionalism, building, property, protection, ...
What is your tagline or slogan?
"Building and protecting intellectual property assets for businesses." However, I will consider alternatives.
Where will your new logo be used?
Website, correspondence, business cards.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Few have logos.
List competitive URLs if possible
http://www.usebrinks.com/
www.fr.com
What sets you apart from your competitors?
We are not a slam/bam/thank-you-ma'am firm. We work with you in all phases of your IP pursuits. We particularly enjoy relationships where we are both invested - i.e. mutual partnership, or contingency.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
thoughtful, intelligent, and comprehensive advice

First concept from me. The A is shown diagramed, much like a blueprint of the letter.

First, let me say that you guys are all very talented! Thank you for the suggestions. There are things to like in all of them. So far, my favorites are #8 and #11. What I like about these: the A in #8 is creative - and says that we are technical, engineering types. It also implies drafting, which is perfect. In #11, I like how the I and P come together to make an A in the logo. While I'm not a big fan of the red, white, and blue, the collaboration of the three letters is nice. I look forward to seeing what others come up with!

Here are a couple of ideas dealing with building a bridge of trust between you and your clients.

Hello! :)

Thanks, everyone. I am still leaning toward #8 and #11, and probably most favor the drafting concepts shown in #8. I think I also particularly like the idea of incorporating the A symbol (or any other type of symbol that portrays drafting or building) with the word "Advisors" and want to have a one-line type of logo, rather than a multiple-line logo. I also am leaning toward the goldish-brown and blue logo colors - one color for the IP and another color for the Advisors. I think that differentiates the two words better.
If there are any other suggestions out there, I welcome them. Otherwise, I will probably close things up within a week. Thanks!

Received in message board: "I would like to further explore having a cross-member in the draft-A that you have developed. I want to make sure that people see it as the A of Advisors."
Here are two options. Thank you.

Thanks. Did you need any other modifications to the design?

I think there might be a few tweaks, but minimal. I think the color version is great. Perhaps the only thing I would like to see as an alternative is to do something catchy with the dot of the "i" in advisors. For example, maybe have one of the drafting cross hairs there that matches that of the A? What do you think? Too much?
Also, in the black and white version, I think it might look better if the rest of the "dvisors" was in an outline font, rather than solid. That better separates the IP from the Advisors, which is something I want to emphasize.
Any other suggestions?

Looks good to me! I like the middle colored version - with the colored dot for the i. Can you send me the color and black-and-white electronically? I currently use Publisher for my webpage, but I will be changing to Dreamweaver 8. So if you can provide a layered image file that is compatible with both, that would be great.
