Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Maternity Xchange
and possibly - Because you’re losing your waist, not your taste.
or The Fashionista’s Place to Buy & Sell Maternity Clothing

What type of product or service do you offer? We are a mobile consignment business that specializes in new & used, brand name, mid to high-end maternity clothing and accessories. We also host Pre & Post Natal Fairs that connect new & expecting parents with local resources in the birth & early parenting community.

How long have you been in business? 2 years

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity? To update our image to look more professional, start the branding process and create excitement about our monthly sales/events.

What are your long-term goals? To be a respected source of maternity clothing and resource info in our community and to ultimately take our events to other parts of the country

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
January 15th

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience Our market is middle to upper middle class women in their late 20s to early 40s who are married and expecting a child or has a new baby. She is very fashion conscious, financially savvy, usually health conscious and physically fit. Wants the best for her family and is willing to pay for it but appreciates a deal as well.

Who would you like to add to your audience? More of the above.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like? Can be text based, illustrative, or iconic. Should be sophisticated and classy but still modern, fun and warm. We want to give the impression of being special and unique but open to everyone that needs maternity clothing

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo?
Earthly shades. Turquoise, brown, tans, orange, dark pinks NO pastel pinks or blues. Sophisticated warm colors. Logo should work in black & white too.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo? We have images that we have used for the last 2 years (see attached) and we don’t want to completely lose the recognition we have gained so doing an update of them is one possibility. We are open to just using them on print materials so they don’t have to be part of the actual logo. We are also very interested is seeing something completely new without the figures so please don’t feel they have to be used. I feel the recognition is in the poses more that the actual women. I am rather fond on the women with the Afro though and would like to keep the multi cultural feel. If you do end up updating the ladies I hate the stroller and the outfits could change. They should look more modern and hip. I’d also like them to look little less anorexic.
Another possibility is having a stroller worked into the logo somehow.
We are open to any ideas you have.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business? That we are hip, helpful, professional and welcoming

What is your tagline or slogan?
The Fashionista’s Place to Buy & Sell Maternity Clothing and/or Because You’re Losing Your Waist, Not Your Taste.

Where will your new logo be used?
On a website and in print: flyers, banners, letterhead, advertising etc.

I'm very excited to see what you all come up with.
Thanks

Thanks for the submissions. It's exciting to see what people come up with. After reviewing the posts so far I have some comments

BlueCherryGraphics - I like the idea of the X forming something but I'm not sure the two bellies work. It's kind of hard to make out that it is an X unless you are looking for it. I also think the font is too bubbly and would prefer to not use pink and blue as it's too "baby" rather than “sophisticated mom ”.

OffBeatDesign - Version 1. is not the direction we are looking for, too stark
Version 2 & 3 are better, I like the look of the font and the idea of the Ms forming the X but it does not invoke maternity or fashion.

All designers - Logo needs to let the viewer know who our market is.
I'd like to see a few different logos going in these directions:

1. Something with the M and/or X forming some kind of figure that represents pregnancy somehow (maybe a stroller?)

2. Two women, one with a stroller handing a dress or outfit to another that is pregnant. (Can be an update of our original figures)

3. More totally original logos

We like the ideas behind these two logos

Sure thing. The curved line was meant to represent the pregnant belly. Here it is with more of the outline.

Thanks offbeat: we'd really like something more fluid for the center shape in your last version and we are not too fond of the font. Can we see others? I'm not sure what but we'll know it when we see it.

Freetime thanks for the submission. I like the direction you're going in. Can I see other variations? Maybe using the X as the handle for the stroller or with only the X forming the stroller. We'd love to see things in teal and brown. We’ve decided to steer away from pink.

If we end up with a logo that incorporates a stroller we would like to be able to use it with a variation of the figures we currently use as part of our logo. In other words one of the figures would sometimes be pushing the stroller/logo depending on usage. Depending on which logo we wend up with we may have another contest later to get the ladies updated to fit.

We wouldn't mind seeing a logo submitted that updates and uses the figures now. The poses would need be similar (woman pushing a stroller handing a dress to a pregnant woman) because the pose has a strong recognition factor for us already but the style of drawing can change.

I’ve attached the figures again so you can see them.

Looking forward to seeing what else everyone comes up with.

Freetime: I'm liking the version with the girl. This is nice because we can use it with & without the figures. Can I see it with the other figure pushing the stroller and handing the dress to the pregnant woman? If there is going to be a stroller we'll want to be able to use both figures. The passing of the dress symbolizes what we do. I also am not 100% sold on the font are there other options?

Offbeat thanks for the new designs. I have some comments

Version 8 - while I do like the font there's too much focus on the stroller. We sell maternity clothing not baby stuff I think it would be confusing
Version 9 & 10 - I like the font and might be into it if our name started with an O but for us the symbols just seems disconnected.
Version 11 - I like the font but I'm not into the baby face, It's not a sophisticated enough look for us and we mainly focus on maternity clothing, again confusing

I would still like to see version 5 with a different shape women between the m & x maybe one fluid/ wavy line representing a pregnant form and a different font

Freetime – really cute! Just a couple of changes and then I need to wait until my partner gets a chance to see everything before I go much further.

I’d like the girl with the stroller to still have an afro (she kind of represents me) and can you make the hand off look a little more detailed? Maybe a little space between the hands so the pregnant women looks like she’s reaching for the dress. Thanks

Hey everyone, had a chance to go over everything with my partner. Here are our comments.

Message #26
Senter – Thanks for the submission but we really want something hip and funkier
there’s still time if you want to post something else.

#27 Freetime – We both really like this one. We have some requests for revisions/variations
1. We’d like to see this with a couple of variations on the X as the stroller. The concern is that if we use just the text without the ladies the X may not come across as both a stroller and a letter. Can you show us the logo with the X from message #17 (version 3) and one or two others so we can compare? (and take out the lttle blue piece over the X)
2. Can we see the logos with the blue darker and more of teal color and with a different brown. It’s coming across too red
3. Will you adjust the pregnant woman a little? Her profile looks a little awkward especially in the face. It’s a little flat and pointy, looks a bit witch like. If you can make the hair a little prettier too that would be great.

#29 30 & 31 (versions 13 14 & 15) Offbeat- We’d like a more “hip” look that let’s people know what we do. Can you make the image in the middle different somehow? I’m not sure what it would be. Maybe holding a shopping bag…. we like different font as well, none of these is quite right.

We’d still like to see other submissions and more ideas. Thanks everyone.

Offbeat we prefer the font in version 13 but we are not thrilled with it. We'd like something bolder and a little more funky but not as cutesy as 14 & 15. None of the figures are quite right either but I like version 13 best.

Freetime thanks for the revisions. We both like the curlier font so you can stick with that from now on. Can we also see a version with the X from version 2.4 changed a little made to look a little more stroller like but without any extra wheels. We are trying to decide between with separate wheels and with the wheels just part of the X.

Titania we REALLY like your figures but are not sure about the outfit as an X. We think it's a little too much and not necessary. We'd also like to lose the outfit silhouettes behind the X.
Can we see a different outfit minus the X shape.
Will you make it a little more obvious that the lady is pregnant? She may need a different pose? It doesn’t come across very well in the silhouettes.
Will you move them to the side of the text so we can see it that way too?

Thanks

Freetime --we really like your concept for the logo but we’d like to see other variations of it. We prefer the version 2.6 in the middle but don’t like the spokes in the “wheels”. We feel there is a more interesting, fluid, stylized way to make the x into a stroller. Also our original figures were "sketched" 2 years ago and we would love to see them updated. Could you flesh them out a little and make them less stiff/angular? More like figures that evoke our clientele: boutique-y, stylish, young/hip?

Titania—We prefer the full color version to the silhouette so these comments are for that version.
We really like the figures you've drawn but we aren't sold on the entire logo. Is there a way to make the logo more compact? We’re concerned about how it’s going to fit on business cards & letterhead etc… Perhaps the text can be written following the shape of the pregnant woman? Or Maternity above Xchange next to the ladies?
Also can you make the dress longer and remove or change the placement of the tie so it hangs down instead of up from the dress? Will you play with poses for the pregnant woman? Maybe re-add the other arm, it looks a little awkward without one.

Thanks

Hi Titania, we are excited to be working with you. We love your design. We like version 8 in part because we'll be able to utilize the test with out the figures if necessary.
We do have a few revisions we'd like done

Women with stroller:
-Make her hair bigger - still an afro just a bit fuller mabe a bit "wilder" but not too crazy
-Make her complexion bit darker (and the baby's too)
-Remove the earring (or hair??) hanging down behind her face

Pregnant woman:
-Can her reach for the dress be more decisive? She looks like her hand is just out, not like she is interested in and reaching for the dress. Maybe she should be looking a little more toward the dress as well?
-Can her stance be changed just a little bit too? I'm struggling with the way she's standing because in the silhouette it's hard to tell that she has one foot behind the other. Please have her standing with two visible legs & feet maybe one leg kicked up a little like in our original figures. One leg or foot can still be partially hidden just want to be able to clearly make out two feet.

Text:
-We don't love the font used in this one. It has too much going on with the vertical lines on the "A"s but the weight is good. We prefer the fonts in version 7 or 9 but neither is exactly right, they are both too thin.
-We would like the M and X to both be a different color for the rest of the font and the "I" dotted with the different color too if a lower case "I" is used.

Logo color:
-Can we see different color options with the browns? The blue now doesn't stand out to us.
-If it stays blue we want it to be more teal rather than light blue.
-Other colors we like are orange, green, dark (fuchsia) pink. Kind of earthy but bright tones that compliment the browns.

Thanks,
Bobbi :D

Hi Caro.
Ok so I went over everything with my partner and we have a few more changes. Sorry we’re being so picky but we want to LOVE our logo, as I’m sure we will ?.

1. We are still not sure about the font, can you change it to something else. We've been using Humana Serif ITC Medium until now.
2. We don’t want to emphasize the "x" more than the rest of the rest of the text so it shouldn’t be bigger or a different color.
3. Move the word Xchange over so the "X" is more under the "M"
4. We prefer the darker brown (like the shoes) for the text
5. Can you have the texture in the hair of the woman with the stroller radiate out (not sure how to explain this. I’m sending you a picture to your private email)?
6. The pregnant woman’s pose is still not quite right. We want her to look like she’s moving towards the dress as if she is reaching for it rather than just posing near it. She should look like she is just about to take it by the hanger.
7. Her legs need to be different too. My partner prefers the stance in version 10 but I think it looks a little un natural since she’s basically balanced on one foot on her toes. Is there a compromise stance she can have? I’d like to see a more natural (realistic) stance but still fluid like version 10 or even more like the stance in our original figures (the blonde lady)

Ok I think that’s it let me know if you need me to clarify anything.
Thanks sooooo much
Bobbi

Ok I really like the new font in the dark brown. Let's stick with this one. I like the variation of the shirt on the new girl but otherwise let's switch back to the other girl (version 11) she's much more the look we want and I like her hand on her hip. If you can just raise the arm that's reaching for the dress just a little and I think we'll be done. then I'd like to see the new color options. Thanks so much.

1. font from version 12
2. woman with stroller from version 11 (new texture on hair)
3. pregnant woman from version 11 (hand raised a little higher on pregnant women as it reaches for dress) with shirt from version 12

Hi Caro, Look's great only one very small last change. will you move the pregnant girl back a little so she is not quite touching the dress and raise her arm so her hand is parraell with the hanger.

As for colors we really like and want to keep the browns and tans, just change the blues. We want rich, bright but earthy colors for the main color We like pinks (fuchsia), teal, green or oranges. keep it hte same in that you use a couple of variations of only one main color, either pink or orange or green or blue

we like the blue and green from this site http://www.cheekymonkey.ca/

the orange from this site

We are very happy with version 17, we both really like the color. So you can send the files anytime. I'd like psd files. We need it to be completely scalable and a pretty high resolution as we are going to use the logo on large banners and signs as well as letter head and business cards. I'm sure you know better than I what we will need to be able to print large graphics.
Will you also send me the name of the font you used.
