Greetings,
We are a forum of Green Industry Professionals that interacts with one another to discuss the landscape trade. We have a great design and color scheme that is second to none.
What we desire is a logo for print on t-shirts, hats, coffee mugs, mouse pads, etc. What comes to mind is: When I think of lawn, I think green grass (of course). When I think of cafe, I think coffee shop. What I have in mind, but I am open to different designs is a coffee cup or mug with grass growing from the top with "LawnCafe.com" below. I am always open to different designs and ideas, if there are any that come to the creative minds here.
I think a reasonable time frame for this contest would be 2 weeks. I want to wish the designers the best of luck. I will stop in from time to time to post my replies.
Deadline: September 3rd

Hello.
Can we make the cup white? And the font thicker and underneath the cup? Can the grass have more strands too?
Thanks for the entry.

A couple of different ideas I thought were: a traditional cup (with bottom brim), a platter, and even something like a server's tray. Or even a a cup laying in grass.

Here's something I came up with before I saw your latest feedback--any suggestions for this one?

That looks great. Can we see some different looks for that. IE. font, cup, color, etc.
Julie

Do you have anything specific you'd like to see? I've changed font and color once here, and added a different style.

That last logo just jumped out at me. That would look great on shirts. Not sure about hats though. I will keep that one in mind.
I have reviewed Turfstuff's contest and like the grass that elkootcho and sparkie have put up there.

Here's a revision, changing the style of grass and, obviously, showing what it might look like on a hat--although it's a little crooked and off :) I tried!

You may have convinced me. :)
Can we fit in "Landscape Forums" insead of "Forums"? Not sure if it will jumble it up or not.
The one to the left is more like it. I would probably be more leaning towards a traditional coffeee cup (with a seat on the bottom) with that type of grass.
Great job!!
for some reason, that logo really makes me wanna' have a coffee :)

It should...it's Starbucks!! :lol2:

What can I say? I was inspired :) (well, actually from an old logo from the 40's, but they do share that circle and the stars).
Here's another revision...is this the type of coffee cup you're talking about?

Sorry for being vague. I was thinking about this type of cup. Dah, there is no brim, just a saucer.
Anybody for tea and crumpets? :drink:
Julie

Oh, no problem--it's not as if drawing a teacup was a long, arduous process.
How's this?

Will that logo get me in hot water?
Palmer

Don't you mean hot coffee? :lol2: That would be a close call. I'll get our expert Timo to help with your question. Be right back...

thank you for the honor ;) It is my daily business to search for trademarks, and I think that you will get in a lot of trouble if you don't have a permission from Starbucks to use their name ( or you pay a license fee ) - you can use then the hot water for tea instead for coffee :)

No Timo, look at page 1 at the bottom. There is a logo that is pretty close to the starbucks one, do you think that would be an infringement? Thanks for helping. We eally want to protect the contest holders from getting into trouble.

Hi Palmer, first of all, I cannot give legal advice - that can do and should be do only a lawyer.
In my experience with pictures as trademarks people had problems with something like that - the thick green
border in the logo at the bottom on page -1- and the thick green border in the starbuck logo are the same.
And when you compare the area of business of starbucks AND the description of the contest holders, then is it to similar when you combine it with this logo as it is on page -1-. I'm really sure that Dave can expect at least a letter from their lawyers. But like I said I cannot give a legal advice, I can point out only possible problems.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I realize giving legal advice can get someone in trouble as well.
Personally I think if it didn't have the stars it wouldn't be a big deal. Once you add the 2 stars on the sides of the circle it becomes too similar to the Starbucks logo.
Just my humble opinion...
I think it's called an infringement of brand equity. When I saw Julies design I automatically thought of StarBucks. It is the paragon of a successfull branding strategy. This reaction in me is what they want, and paid millions of dollars to achieve. In the business world, this gives their logo equity.
If this logo is used, it will be infringing on starbucks' identity, positioning and market stance.
I'm sure the worst thing that will happen is an email from starbucks warning you that if you do not remove the logo immediately, they will take legal action. That's if they ever see it!
nice design Julie!

Oh well--my media law prof wouldn't have seen it that way, but that's how law is as far as I'm concerned--murky. Of course, Starbucks' logo wasn't exactly an original, either :)
So, I'm deleting my old entries--sorry about that--and resubmitting these. I doubt Starbucks can say much about the use of circles in someone else's logo.

your law prof knows a heck more than I do, you made some good points.
Excellent re-design!

Raja--don't worry, I wasn't replying to you and being witchy. I just hate being caught in any controversy :) Thanks for the compliment on the redesign, though!

Can we see these cups in an off white?
Dyna Girl,
I think the font could be a little thicker.
Julie,
Can we see the circle without the half green and the top fon (Lawncafe.com) in a solid color?

The last one with a brown border caught my eye, Julie. Can we try a white cup, make landscape forums a little larger, and change the inner background to green or white?

Can we also try the one next to that with a brown thin border instead of blue, with a white cup?

I love them Julie!!! I am stuck at a color crossroads. I especially like how you put the beige in the background. It clashes well with the brown.

Well, if it helps--the one with a beige background is my favorite of the last three :)

Well it is that time. The time to decide. I must thank all the designers for all their hard work that made these great designs.
I read thru all the entries again and made a decision on a design that would be recognizable and would look good on a T, hat, sweat shirt, etc.
I have chosen the second to last design by Julie T. I think the colors clashed well and gave it the look that I wanted. All the other designs were great, but I could only chose 1.
I will have her make 2-3 small mods if she don't mind and will look forward to putting it to use.
