I am looking to have a logo designed for Dakota Gold Hockey Camps. We are located in North Dakota and run ice hockey camps at various times throughout the year. We are looking for a logo will stand out and set us apart from other camps in the area. We would like to use the logo on our stationary/letterhead and also on the front of the hockey jerseys we give to our participants. I am looking forward to seeing some of your ideas. I have used this service in the past and have been quite impressed with the results in the past. Thanks.
Design Outpost Creative Brief Worksheet
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Dakota Gold or Dakota Gold Hockey Camps. I wouldn't mind seeing ideas both ways.
What type of product or service do you offer?
We run ice hockey camps in North Dakota.
How long have you been in business?
2 years
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
We want people to know who we are and what we are about just by looking at our logo.
What are your long term goals?
We want to be regarded as the premier hockey development camp to attend in North Dakota.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
January 10th, 2007
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Mainly hockey parents who want to see their child(ren) improve in the game of hockey. The children in the camps range in age from 5-12.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Something that stands out. We will be using the logo on our hockey jerseys that we give to participants as well as on our stationary/letterhead/brochures.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I think gold or yellow would have to be included simply because of the name...but nothing is set in stone...I am open to any and all ideas.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Possibly a hockey stick or silhouette of a hockey player...maybe an animated hockey player...again, I'm open to anything. Our camps are mostly geared toward children ages 5-12
Where will your new logo be used?
Primarily on player's hockey jerseys and stationary/letterhead/brochures
Targeted Message:

J. Johnson - thanks for your submissions...Version 1 & 2 are interesting ideas..could you please try using a different font. I don't think versions 3-5 will work because they don't associate us with the game of ice hockey. I do like the font used in version 3-5. I would be interested in seeing some other ideas from you.
Senter - Version 1 is a neat idea..really stands out. Could you try and fit the words "Hockey Camps" in there as well. Also, I'm debating whether or not I like the color red mixed in with the yellow and black. However, the more I look at it the more it grows on me. Thanks for your submissions...I would love to see some other ideas from you.

Would you be able to offer any different ideas?

Well if you dont mind me asking where does the name come from? As with the pro teams there is some kind of mascot or image to go along with the wordmarking and secondary logos. I just need to know that to finish the other concepts.

Senter - This is how we came up with the name Dakota Gold. "Dakota" comes from the fact we run our camps in the State of North Dakota. The word "Gold" represents excellence or high quality which is what we want are camps to embody.
We operate out of Fargo, North Dakota...right in the middle of the prairies or heartland...wheat farming and all that. Plus, it's downright cold here in the winter when we run most of our camps. Hopefully, this info might give you some other ideas.
I do like your version 7 & 8...my only concern is there aren't any mountains where we live...the landscape is as flat as it gets.
Thanks for your efforts...I look forward to your other ideas.

Here is something that invokes quality (use of gold), the wild west, and a shield in a stylized and sporty design.

Senter - Version 9 is a nice concept and an interesting idea. I really like color scheme. I would be interested in seeing 1 or 2 completely different ideas you might be able to come up with...maybe with an image/silhouette of a hockey player incorporated in the logo. Thanks for your efforts.
Joshua - I like your Version 1 concept. However, I would like to perhaps see a silhouette or image of a hockey player or hockey stick(s) incorporated into the logo to help identify our business. I am interested to see some other ideas you might have. Thanks for your efforts

Joshua - Thanks for the revisions. The hockey sticks are an improvement on the initial design. I am not that crazy about the font used in the logo...could you try something a little fifferent. I would also be interested to see how the logo looks with the words "Hockey Camps" in the design. Thanks for your efforts.
Fabian - Thanks for your entry. I like your initial design. Some comments - the sticks used in the design look more like field hockey sticks as opposed to ice hockey sticks. It would also be nice to somehow see a little more of the silhouette of the hockey player in the background. Could you also try and use the words "Hockey Camps" in the logo. Thanks for your efforts.

I can do that, are you wanting to keep with an old western type font or something more modern? Also was there any particular color combination that you liked most?

Here is a revision for you that includes the Hockey Camp verbage. I included it at the bottom for flow as well as to keep the shield a seperate entity. That way on the jerseys you give out it can have the shield on them without the Hockey Camp to give the sense of team, and then everything else can use the logo with the hockey camp. I also modified the font to a simplified version of the previous one.

Joshua - Thanks for the revisions. I think a more modern block letter font would look better instead of the old western style. As for the color scheme, I think I like the grey, black, and yellow or gold combination best. Thanks for your efforts.
Offbeat design - Nice submission...I really like the font used and the puck going throught he letter "O". I'm not so sure I like the shape of the background though. I'm not sure if this would work or not but would it be possible to put the silouhette of the player behind the words Dakota Gold? Thanks for your efforts and I look forward to more ideas from you.

Another option with the player incorporated into the lettering. This logo could easily be used with the player in some cases and without in others.

Joshua - I hate to say it but I am still not crazy about the font in version 1.4....it just doesn't jump out at me. I would appreciate seeing some other ideas. Thanks.
Offbeat Design - I am very impressed with version 2 & 3....I would probably lean more towards version 2. I would be interested to see how version 2 would look in a few different color schemes. Thanks.

Made mine more dynamic with the puck being shot past the wordmark and added some depth to the font so it jumps out more.

I was trying to give you more of a personal brand without using the generic hockey image like a professional team.
But if this is the type of imagey you are wanting I will accomidate.

Fabian - I do like the idea of the puck being shot past the wordmark. I just find that the way the word "Hockey Camps" is situated and the font used keep the logo from flowing together real well...any other ideas?? Thanks.
Offbeat Design - Thanks for the color revisions. Do you have any other concepts you would like to put forth?? Thanks.
Senter - Version 10 is an interesting concept. The upper half of the player silhouette looks a little intimidating though...can you somehow soften it up a bit? Thanks.

J. Johnson - Very nice....you're onto something here in version 7. Something like this would look great on a jersey in my opinion. I am, however, not crazy about the "DG" above the hockey puck. What would look awesome is to replace the DG with an angled shape or silhouette of a hockey player with stick. I am talking about the sports icons that are similar to the ones used in the Winter Olympics.

Senter - Congrats to you. I am interested in the logo you designed in version 2 through 5. Would it be possible to lengthen the shaft of the hockey sticks next to the words "Hockey Camps" just slightly so part of the stick blade is not obscured? I would also like to see the logo somehow without the banner"Hockey Camps" as we will be utilizing the logo both with and without these words. Thanks for your efforts.
