Project Summary:

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

MMO Scout

MMO = Massive Multiplayer Online
Scout = Scout, Recon or thesaurus variants

What type of product or service do you offer?

Website Review for Gaming Sites. We will offer articles, comments driven by user's, featured interviews, and rating trends.

How long have you been in business?

Never

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

To be the authoritative voice on reputable and community-driven reviews for discerning shopper's looking to find the right gaming related service to join.

What are your long term goals?

Advertising revenue from participating sites to increase their website review status and rank. To show web owner's why customer's are complaining, raving, or requesting more features and to allow these web owner's to recognize these facts from potential clients.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

January 15th, 2007

Audience Profile:

Please describe your existing audience

Gamer's (teenager's to adults).

Who would you like to add to your audience?

Gamer's (teenager's to adults)

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:

What type of logo would you like?

Try variations of MMOScout and MMO Scout, with a space. The definition above (advanced reconnaisance) should be incorporated into the design idea.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

2 Colors, 3 max. Saturations ok. Solids ok. Any web friendly combinations for color. We are looking for the design and not so much the color as we can modify it once we receive the EPS or PSD.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

You are encouraged to use your creativity when thinking to use an image/icon from the the acronym "MMO" and the word "Scout". As the name 'Scout' implies, a 'scout' serves as an advance reconnaisance. Please utilize http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/scout for some ideas on integrating an illustrative image/icon as appropriate.

Communication Strategy:

What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

Playful, witty, the leader

What is your tagline or slogan?

None.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

The authoratative place for game website reviews

Where will your new logo be used?

Website

Competitive Positioning:

Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?

No direct competitors as they are using scripts for Top 100 that do not offer the same level of interaction and community-driven features our site will have.

List competitive URLs if possible

N/A. Not worth it.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

Custom coded backend website and design, dynamically driven content, ajax, scriptalicious, etc. We are completely flexible and use a flexible framework for rapid application programming.

Targeted Message:

State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

Insightful reviews of gaming web sites. "The Authority" in reviews for game related websites.

Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for your submission. We should have mentioned it in the guidelines but we definitely want to stay away from any logo that has a military feel to it. The site will be for reviews for Massive Multiplayer Online Gaming Sites, which traditionally is more of a Role Playing type of audience.

I think the eyes in the letters have been overused on logos. Also, I am not feeling the typeface chosen. But, thanks for the submission it is something to think about. :)

The silhouette of the Ranger is interesting but this logo might have some difficulty with fit when it comes time for placement. It is very top-left heavy and might be difficult to fit proportionally in areas where logo's tend to be. Just a thought.

Interesting submission, thanks. :)

Can you give examples of logos you like? Ones you think fit stylisticly with what you're looking for?

It's hard to say because we don't have a design for the site yet. After the logo has been created then we will move on to having a design created for the site. But the logo needs to tie in with the concept of the site and the information that has been provided above. The main thing that we want to stay away from as I have stated is anything "military".

At first glance I liked this logo there are just a couple of things that worry me. The size of the font used for the word "scout" seems too small. The location for it might not be the best to show a site name. Also, the green "i" in the center of "MMO" seems to stand out a lot as though it has meaning but I dont understand what is being portrayed. I can see that it resembles a person but this is a gaming review site. Just not clear on that.

Excellent submission though, graphxguy. :)

I liked the use of the compass in this logo, a lot. I think with a little more work into the type and this would be a very good design. When you step back and look at the "MMO" typeface it looks very cluttered and it almost steps on itself. Different variatons of this design would be nice to see.

Great submission BlueCherry. :)

Now this on the other hand is a very fun and interesting logo. I like this logo a lot. I would like to see this logo with more of a rounded edge typeface used, with maybe a glass 3d effect or similar used. But not a typeface that makes the type difficult to read. I think it would flow real nice with the telescope. :D

Great submission, OffbeatDesign. :)

Thanks. Here's a slightly more rounded typeface. We have to design everything in vector format, but you would be able to add a glass (or any other) filter later. For now I added some gradients.

And an even rounder typeface.

Thank you to everyone who submitted their logos in this contest. After careful review and what we see as being the best match to what we have planned in our web design, OffbeatDesign has been awarded with the final revisions.

Again, our thanks to all your efforts and ideas.

Tom

Scratch my last request. Here are the changes I would like to see. When we asked in a reply to Version 3, you did not understand what I was looking for when you submitted Version 4. No problem...We selected your design anyhow ;)

Using Version 3 and modifying it to:

a) show variations to the type
b) Create a non-cartoony bubble 3D effect. Not really bloating the letters, but making it appear somewhat rubbery/plasticy. I'm sure you call that something in Photoshop plugins. Easiest way to explain it is to mimick the telescope lens effect to the letters in it's own way.

Show maybe 3 variations and if one stands out, we'll run with it.

Thanks again,

Tom

Tom,

On the logo forum we are required to provide you with a vector finished logo. Most clients will then take that logo to their web designer (or other designer) for special effects and such.

Below is a sample (which I can provide to you) of the logo with an embossed Photoshop effect.

Let me know if this is what you were looking for. Thanks.

These would be the "official" files you would get through the project. I will provide in EPS, PDF, JPG, and any additional formats you request.

JeffJeff,

Perfect. We'll tweak what we need to on our end and play with different color combo's when we post up the template project.

Thanks! Close this out and deliver the final vector, EPS and other files.
