(Admin code added by Palmer - 8282718)

Hi all,

I am working with a programmer to design a content management system to edit websites (PHP). Yes there are quite a few out there but I am trying to design one that is VERY user friendly with step by step instructions.

Anyway... I need a logo, and there is no where else I would rather go... :)

The product name will be EditPal. I will want the logo designed in vector format and to use minimal colours for the print version but if you wish to sell your idea with more colours I would be able to use this logo for the web. Just remember to provide a print version for me to look over as well.

Colours: blues, greens, oranges

Style: any style will be considered. Would prefer some sort of symbol or even a character.

ADDED NOTE: I think I want the E & P to be capitalised. EditPal. Please try different variations. EditPal, editpal....
The prize: $70 upon winning PLUS I will include a copy of EziEdit once it is completed that can be used on one site (either for yourself or a client) We are still working on the figures though I estimate it will be worth approx $200. So the total prize value would be approx $270. :)

Competition will end around the 8th September.

Thanks - and good luck!

2square - I don't like the first symbol - it is too similar to others I have seen. I don't mind the second symbol but i would like to see anything else you could come up with. I do like the font you have used and that box really does help me picture how it will look. Great touch. :)

lol - well it made me smile - but sorry not the type of character I was thinking... lol

how about trying something completely different? I am not sure I want to go with letters in the symbol. ;)

How about this...I was thinking about how this simple saying applied to your product, so I've incorporated threes into these.

Hi Julie,

Thanks for the submission.

I am not really fond of the font you have used and although I like the idea of the simple as one, two, three... I think that has been used by other companies.

I will think up a motto over the next few days... : )

Keep up the great work so far guys...

Well.... I figured with the marketing I will be doing it will brand itself. And it is such a short name which was so hard to give up!! I can not believe eziedit.com was available!! There were some other good names in that selection but a lot of them were too 'boring' I wanted something catchy and something I could brand. EziEdit was voted for the most as well... :)

Taldo - I like the clean appearance of this logo but I do not like the clipart style images. Maybe you can work on this idea a little more? But I would prefer it resemble web design rather than writing. :)

It grew from an "easy as pie" idea, with the colored wedges representing the simplicity of making a change (editing)--you just pop out one wedge and pop in another.

Thought I'd mention that there's already a CMS named EzEdit, not sure if that's what you're looking into or not ;)

Zoe
08-23-2003, 03:18 PM
Yes I knew of EzEdit but I have found that there is a company in Australia that seem to have some sort of range of Ezi products and EziEdit is one of them. I have been looking up trademarked names but haven't found EziEdit trademarked. There are so many different ways to get the name and it is likely I could trademark the name and use it BUT I have decided that it would probably be too close and could confuse some people so I am going to think of another name. :)

Edit Pal sounds Ok

Zoe

I was talking to someone today about radio adverts and Ezi is going to be a really bad choice as obviously one can not 'see' the spelling. (you were right Palmer. :) ) I got myself too caught up in the moment.

Will confirm a new name tomorrow. :)

I think that you want to go international with your software - but also you will have some problems because there exists a trademark - which is similar the same name like yours - EZEdit exists in the USA, in Australia it has a pending status and the registrar will have the better rights, EZEdit exists also in other countries - so I would not go with this name, also if you rename it to EasyEdit or ECedit or whatever, you still have problems when the name sounds similar to EZEdit

USA Trademark No.: 78206872
International Trademark (WIPO ): 003029063
Australian Mark ( pending ): 940539

All these marks are registered in the category of software / programming area.

If you need any further research done on this name or any other, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Best regards,

Timo

Thanks Timo,

Very nice of you to look this up for me. :)

It is sooooo difficult thinking and then finding and name that has not already been taken, trademarked etc... It is a whole new ball game when one wants to market a product internationally.

I need to confirm with my partner but I feel that 'EditPal' is looking really good. :)

I have an idea for someone who is willing to draw a character. But I don't want everyone going down this path.

Have the word Edit and then Pal placed sideways with the P at the top. Then have a little person standing next to the word Pal facing the front with their arm around the Pal.

If this does not make sense I can try and put something together. :)

ok - here is my idea in visual form. This was a rush job and looks really bad.

I was thinking if someone does this and I like the character it would be cool to have a series of images of the character throughout the program so I may request more designs. :)

PLEASE NOTE: I may decide I don't like this idea so please provide other designs as well. :)

Hi Taldo,

I like it. :)

I was thinking if maybe you could experiment with the E symbol a little more and possibly turn it into a person. But not in an obvious way... :)

Maybe you could do something with the P??

Taldo
08-29-2003, 07:19 AM

Palmer

I have no skills when it comes to illustration so I won't be attempting this. I thought it would look cool if the P in pal looked like a person (the top part of the p being his head and the tail his body) and the horizontal bar of the t in edit was an arm and it would look like that t had it's arm around the P like they were pals.

Anyone can feel free to use that idea. Just my 2 cents :)

Zoe
08-29-2003, 02:20 PM
Palmer, I like that idea if anyone wants to give it a try. :)

2square. I really like the style of the character.

The only thing is. I don't want to portray 'love' Think of two guys who are good mates. They bump into each other, say gidday, pat each other on the back type of thing...

I don't like th font sorry. Want something a little bulkier. Maybe swiss921.

Thanks for the entry Toni - unfortunately it is a little to simple for what I am creating. I really want something I can use as a branding tool and people will be able to remember the logo. I would love to see any other ideas or expnsion on this design. :)

2square - I am really drawn to your second last entry but I still don't wish to portray love. I have made a mock up of something that if you can fix it up and make it look good it could be very close to being the winner. :)

I wasn't trying to portray love in that one but I suppose with both having arms around each other it may look that way, just thought if it was a seperate symbol form the test then you could sort of use that as your trade mark (I was thinking of putting an 'E' & 'P' on their fronts but thought may look tacky)

Anyway I think you should declare yourself a winner with that one, looking good but I shall work on that if you want sort of my other idea but not hugging the 'L'.

Cheers

OK - after much consideration I have come to a decision!

Dynagirl - I really liked the concept of your logo though in the end I felt that it wouldn't portray the image I am after which is a little more corporate. I couldn't think of a way that this concept could be created without being too 'cartoony'.

2square/Michael - You are the winner! You created exactly what I asked and did a great job! The logo is going to be displayed as a tiny symbol on the software and I was still able to make out that it was a little guy next to the 'L' which was one minor concern for me.

Congratulations on a job well done and I thank you for all the effort you put into this design. :)

What format is the logo in? What application did you use to design it?
