This is a site I recently picked up at sitepoint. I think it'll be a nice addition to my arsenal, but don't have the time or resources to put my all into it right now.

For this, I'm looking to get the design done here, and I'll get to coding it up later.

The current site is at www.yomommagrams.com -- I'm not fond of the design really.

What I'm looking for:

--New design, color scheme CAN stay if you can make it flow.
--Nice "hip" and urban feel to it (not TOO urban, don't want to go gritty/grundgy)
--Site should have atleast two columns. This means a header, left nav, and center content. POSSIBLY a right nav, but we'll see as the designs come in.

What we need in it:
I plan to organize the site a bit better. Left side should be the nav with the basics like Home, Browse, Contact etc. I'll place ads there too. Let's shoot for a 160px width to accomodate large skyscrapers.

Right side (or middle) will have just generic welcome info at the top, maybe 2 or 3 "featured" grams below.

The view gram page (only inner page necessary) should just show the gram title, a lil info like views etc, the gram flash (so they can listen to it there), an embed textfield, and a send to friend button which will launch the generator and allow them to pick a name, insult etc.

It's pretty late as I type this, so if I've missed anything or you have any questions please feel free to let me know.

The colors aren't bad, it's a bit flat and thin, maybe wider and shinier. Here's some links to my other sites to show how I like things:

Ok thanks for that, that design was really just to get a feel of what direction you wanted the site to go in. Could you possibly provide any illustrators or images that we can use for the layout? Then I'll try and design something much more to your liking :).

I'm sorry, which images do you need? I don't have a logo or anything, just trying to get rid of the current design

Well just images of a 'momma' or someone joking/laughing or something like that. If you don't have any images then don't worry, its just that I've really searched for possibly header images and can't seem to find anything appropriate.

Ok no worries. :) I'll make a kind of mock logo, but as this project is just for the website template designers aren't expected to come up with a logo as well. Should have the second design in the next few days anyway. Regards.

Sorry for the lack of response guys, had PC problems.

Right now, I think I like clink and Idarwish's.

Mark I'm not sure the design style flows for this kind of site and tri, I think that layout is a bit bland. Naturally I'll have to extend this, just wanted to check in with you guys. Once I'm settled with this new desktop ill pop in again to post change suggestions for the two above.

Back guys, and looking good. I'll start with the latest:


clink: loving the look and feel. I'd just change the colors maybe, I like them actually, but for THIS site, I think it may be too sleek/mainstreamish.

prelude: definitely the right idea. I like how you list them there for easy sending and have the rating/user interactivity. I'd just say tone the header down some, it's way too large. If we shrink it down and close in the space it should help. Let's also try tightening up the left column.

To everyone: can we experiment with showing more grams on the homepage? I'd like it to be more "content" driven, so I may liste 3, 4 or 5 "featured" grams or whatever

I like your revision. lets tighten up the left nav, it seems outta place right now. and under featured grams, maybe make the gray blue like the left nav so it adds more color to the site
