Company Details

1a) Name of Company
FixingYourHome.com

1b)Company Tag Line or slogan:
none

1c) Do you have a company logo?
no

1d) Do you have a corporate visual identity (a customized (non stock) logo and color scheme carried out throughout your office, stationery, business cards, etc.)?
no

1e) What is the nature of your business?: Briefly describe your products or services:
Information about home improvement topics. I wont be directly selling anything. Basically all article pages.

1f) Who is your target market? Who are you hoping to reach with your site?
anyone searching for ideas, help, products, information about home improvement topics.

Website Details

1b) Do you have an existing website? If so, what is the URL?
No site up yet.

2b) IMPORTANT: Please list at least 3 URLs (web addresses) of high quality sites that you like the look of (these do not have to be sites who’s business is similar to yours. It aids us in determining what your design style is.) Please consider layout, colors, navigation, graphics, and typography.
6b) Please provide the addresses of competitors' sites, if possible:

www.doityourself.com/ The only thing I like is the cleanness of their content section: example: http://www.doityourself.com/stry/replacedishwasher in the middle where the article is. My content will be along these lines. Their outer layout is way to busy and the content area is too small.

www.lowes.com/ I like their drop down menu.

http://www.askthebuilder.com/ nothing of note here.

http://hometime.com/Howto/projects/bathroom/bath_2.htm I have always had sites with multi columns before but I like the simple clean single column here. It’s a bit narrower then I would use.

http://www.frontgate.com/jump.jsp?itemID=7582&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C145%2C1821&iProductID=7582 Im not doing any ecommerce but it’s a very nice site. Like their menu. Very clean site.

http://www.home-improvement-home-improvement.com/ nice simple, clean.

www.citysceneblog.com I do like the small simple header banner with the collage of pictures. Can’t decide if I want to do a collage like that or something else. Perhaps you can show a sample of each so I can decide. I do like how the whole page resizes but the banner doesn’t move when you make the window smaller. This works for a collage style but perhaps not for something else.

3b) What colors or color schemes would you like?
None picked

4b) List the Navigation links for your Site:

See comments further down about the menu.

Menu titles: not set in stone yet.
Interior Home Projects
Exterior Home Projects
Plumbing, Heat & Air
Gardening & Outside
Other Projects

5b) What type of look are you trying to achieve? (e.g. clean, high-tech, conservative, warm, flashy, etc.)
Clean, simple yet professional.

7b) Do you have any images for use in the design of your site? If not, do you have images, can you offer suggestions of what you type of imagery you feel would be most suitable for your website:
I have no images. Any related to home projects.

Deadlines and Deliverables

1c) What is the deadline for the design of your project? 3 weeks.

2c) What is required breakdown of the files you require our designers to supply you with on finalization of your project?
Standard design deliverables.

Are there any other comments/specific ideas we should keep in mind while designing your project?
The follow were things I wrote down before filling out this sheet.

FixingYourHome.com is my new domain. I have no current logo, graphics, site or anything.
The site is for helping people with home improvements. The site is an information site displaying home improvement articles. Anything from inside projects to outside projects and more. Think of anything that you can get in home depot or lowes and I will be providing information on these things.
I like the simple standard black text on white background for the content area.
I like standard blue for text links.
I like minimal size top header to allow for more content above the fold.
I would like some type of graphics in the header area in the theme of home improvement. You would need to provide graphics with rights to use (or let me know cost to buy rights – low costs please). I did see that Microsoft office clipart photos has many home improvement theme photos and those I believe can be used as I own their software.
I looked through template sites and didn’t find anything I liked.
One or two column.

I would like to include some type of drop down menu matching the colors of the site. Graphic or text main buttons.

I just want this to be better than an off the shelf template.

Look forward to seeing your ideas.

Anyone interested in working on this?

If there are any questions please ask. Like, if you think the price is to low, let me know.

Let me just say this, it won't take much to impress me design wise. I just need something better than I can do and I need it to be css coded properly.

Thanks.

Hello Charles,

You may be limiting the number of designs you will receive by requesting that it is CSS coded. Not all the designers here can code a full CSS web design.

The other option you could try is to allow all designers to enter and then ask a programmer to create the style sheets for you.

OK, I am changing the requirements. I just need the design. I will get the rest done.

So please have at it.

Just a quick question. Will you be including google ads on the site for some extra income?

Thanks

Hi Zoe,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have the forum set to notify me but it didn't.

I do like the design.
To answer your first question, yes, I will be using adsense and other similiar things. The way you put it on there is great.

I will look at it again tonight or tomorrow to finalize it.

Since I will end up needing CSS can you do that? It's ok if not.

Thanks

Yes I can do CSS. :)

How much extra to slice and dice it so its an html and css template?

And then I have one other thing that perhaps you would be able to do. I will have to get the details on that tonight.

Thanks

Please feel free to post your design. :)

It would be nice for Charles to see some variations, before chosing a design.

Hi Zoe,

I like it how it is.

If you could make the star rating, the email, and the print button in a seperate div than the article that would be best.
I will have to add those functions later.

The final thing I was hoping to have was to have the buttons menu work using http://www.milonic.com/
This site has the menu as I like it: http://www.frontgate.com/
I can file the data, but most of the program is the css factors in the layout and colors.
Milonic has a free version that can be installed, and then I can upgrade it later.
Is this something you can do?

Thanks,

-Charles

Hello Charles,

I was just wondering today why I hadn't heard back from you. :) I sent you a Private Message about a week ago discussing the finer details.

I see you haven't got your message - you can go to your private messages area by clicking here - http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/private.php?

Hello Charles,

I am working on adding the menu at the moment, and because they force a link to the main menu structure in the sample download, I can't be sure that I have the correct widths in place. We may need to look at this once you add the registered version. It looks like it should be OK - but we can always tweak it afterwards. :)

I should be done in the next few hours. :)

Thanks
