Event Details
1a) Name of Event
User Interface 12 Conference also known as the UI12 Conference
1b)Company Tag Line or slogan:
We're currently debating if we need one. Last year's tag line was Enriching Experiences, but we didn't really do much with it.
1c) Do you have a company logo?
Yes.
http://uie.com/images/DO/UI12Logo.gif
The AI file lives here (http://uie.com/images/DO/UI12Logo.zip).
1d) Do you have a corporate visual identity (a customized (non stock) logo and color scheme carried out throughout your office, stationery, business cards, etc.)?
We base all of our collateral/identity off of the design of the site.
1e) What is the nature of your business?: Briefly describe your products or services:
The User Interface Conference brings experts in design, usability, information architecture, online marketing, accessibility, and interaction design together to present in-depth, full-day seminars. This year's conference, held in Cambridge, MA, on November 5-8, will attract the more than 400 folks from all over the world to hear the latest thinking in the world of web site and software design.
1f) Who is your target market? Who are you hoping to reach with your site?
We get web designers, usability professionals, information architects, interaction designers, UI designers, product managers, producers, visual designers, content managers, and other user experience professionals to attend the conference. The site will be chock-full of articles and resources for potential attendees, in addition to the full program.
Website Details
1b) Do you have an existing website? If so, what is the URL?
Last year's conference site is still up: www.uiconf.com (http://www.uiconf.com). This year's site will have basically the same content, so you want to use the content structure as a guide. This design (originally from Design Outpost) is now 3 years old. It's time for a revamp, to make it feel more Web-2.0-ish, if you know what I mean.
2b) IMPORTANT: Please list at least 3 URLs (web addresses) of high quality sites that you like the look of (these do not have to be sites who’s business is similar to yours. It aids us in determining what your design style is.) Please consider layout, colors, navigation, graphics, and typography.
Slideshare.net (http://www.slideshare.net): We like the look and feel of this site.
AnEventApart.com (http://www.aneventapart.com): A conference somewhat similar to ours. However, we like having more content on our home page -- it's worked really well for us in the past.
TheMindCanvas.com (http://www.themindcanvas.com): We particularly like the orange boxes for section heads.
LukeW.com (http://www.lukew.com): We like the use of greens.
3b) What colors or color schemes would you like?
We want to feed off the colors in the logo. Beyond that, surprise us.
4b) List the Navigation links for your Site:
The main navigation bar:
Home
Register
Agenda At A Glance
Conference Program
Expert Speakers
Pricing & Policies
Hotel & Travel
Articles
In addition, there will be a link for each full-day session (there will be 8, just like last year) and each speaker (probably between 10 - 14). There's also highlight and promotion content we'll need. (See UIConf.com (http://www.uiconf.com) for full details.
5b) What type of look are you trying to achieve? (e.g. clean, high-tech, conservative, warm, flashy, etc.)
We're looking for a modern revamp of the site. The site does very well (it's responsible for selling out the conference each year), but it needs to catch the eye and show we're at the cutting edge of web design.
6b) Please provide the addresses of competitors' sites, if possible:
Competitor is too harsh a word, since people are rarely deciding between our events and these, but here are some other conference events:
AnEventApart.com (http://www.aneventapart.com/)
AdaptivePath.com - UX Intensive (http://www.adaptivepath.com/events/2007/apr/)
Nielsen/Norman Group User Experience Week (http://www.nngroup.com/events/)
Web Design World (http://www.ftponline.com/conferences/webdesignworld/2007/sf/home.aspx)
7b) Do you have any images for use in the design of your site? If not, do you have images, can you offer suggestions of what you type of imagery you feel would be most suitable for your website:
You can choose speaker pictures for the site. You can get these from here (http://www.uie.com/events/uiconf/2006/speakers/).
You can also use pictures from a previous event (http://www.flickr.com/photos/55978445@N00/) we did. (We hired the photographer and own all the rights to these images. The conference pics start on the second page.)
Deadlines and Deliverables
1c) What is the deadline for the design of your project?
We'd like to declare a winner on 3/5.
2c) What is required breakdown of the files you require our designers to supply you with on finalization of your project?
We'd like 2 pages: The Home page and the Agenda At A Glance Page. We'll derive the design from those pages.
We need <s>the HTML and CSS pages</s> a photoshop or illustrator page. We'll need any images and font specs.
Are there any other comments/specific ideas we should keep in mind while designing your project?
Nothing comes to mind, but we'll be monitoring the thread for any questions you have. I'm sure I've left something out. Fire away.
Looking forward to seeing good things,
Jared
