Hello creative geniuses! A friend recommended this site as a great way to get a business logo. I am looking forward to seeing the results...
I am revamping my (life) coaching business to give it a new name "coaching wizardry" and run it via a blogsite. I am also expanding from life coaching to cover other forms of coaching as well - giving people confidence in their writing, spelling strategies and more to emerge in the future! I hope you can come up with something that will give my business wings...
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Coaching wizardry
What type of product or service do you offer?
Life coaching; coaching for small businesses/solo professionals who want to have more confidence in writing
How long have you been in business?
12 months
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Clear, strong identity; broad enough to cover new ventures; use on blogsite
What are your long term goals?
Established as expert on alternative and creative coaching
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
6 March
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Local clientele (Edinburgh), mainly women 35 - 55 looking for life coaching
Who would you like to add to your audience?
UK wide for telephone coaching and writing support; possibly international market; people turned off by conventional 'high-achieving' coaching sites; people interested in stories and creativity
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Free standing image that could also be used with domain name (www.coachingwizardry.com)
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Green, red, orange but this is not essential (just a dream in my mind)
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Not definitely. Ideas around wizards, wands, flying, dancing
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Magic, creativity, energy, stories, things coming back to life
What is your tagline or slogan?
Not fixed yet. Something like "give your story wings" or "bringing stories back to life"
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Possibility of change; coaching can be creative, magical, intriguing
Where will your new logo be used?
blogsite; stationery
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Other life coaches. All tend to use the same sort of thing - air, water, mountains, hands outstretched. I want something more...earthy, intriguing, unusual, magical
List competitive URLs if possible
What sets you apart from your competitors?
Emphasis on stories, metaphors, playfulness, story as metaphor for life, creativity, playing with words, a gentle invitation not an instruction to improve!
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Coaching with wings

Hi all, thanks very much for the contributions so far. I see from other posts that people are responding as they go along so here's a bit of feedback, I hope it's useful.
Message 2 (Pracus) I liked the look and feel of it, but it's too whimsical somehow for my business purpose
Message 3 (Logoholik) I loved the simplicity of this, and the play of wand and pen
Messages 4 -6 (Logoholik) The twirl did add something - a sense of movement - but it also made it feel more old-fashioned and kind of - majestic? which wasn't quite right
It would be great to see some other designs from people. I know I put a really short deadline on this - would more time help?

Hi, feedback on message 8, alternative version by Logoholik - I think it works better with the wizardry underneath, thanks for experimenting!

Hi Paula23 thanks very much for these suggestions (messages 9, 10 and 11).
Msg 9: I really like the CW image in this first version, but the wording of wizardry is too hard to read. Is it possible to play around with this one in a way that keeps the CW image?
Msg 10: The C image in this first version made me think of a moon, but this has been lost a bit in the second version, where the C has been stretched. It is easier to read though
Msg 11: The last version was nice, but the image had (for me) lost the associations with wizardry and magic - although I can see maybe it has something of a genie feel...?!
Thanks a lot, look forward to seeing more!

Hi, this is great stuff and the different ideas you are coming up with are helping me to see dimensions to the business identity which I hadn't cottoned on to before which is great....thanks :)
(I will definitely write something on my blog about this experience once the site is up and running)
Feedback on the most recent suggestions:
Msg 15 Blue Cherry: this one has the least obvious imagery of wizardry, but for me it is the one so far that really generates a sense of movement, dancing, energy and magic.......thanks! I think it is great the way you have taken the brief and interpreted it in your own way. A few questions and comments:
It is a little hard to read the "wizardry" although I do love the sweeping W, and the way it flows into the figure. Is there anything you could do do make it a little easier to read without losing the movement? Also, would it possible to see how it would look with coaching wizardry.com as a full title; and how a strapline might fit, again without losing the overall sense of movement? I'm not sure on straplines yet, but could you try with "let your story fly".....?
Msg 16 and 17 Paula, thanks for showing me this option with the wizardry in a different font, and experimenting with the life path approach. I'm not sure if we can take these much further for now though.
Msg 18 Deanna, this was exuberant thankyou! but a bit too much for my business purpose, and the image is too directly wizardly - I realise I am looking for something that suggests it without stating it too obviously
Hope this is useful feedback, it is great taking part in this virtual creative process

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. I decided to focus on the outcome of the coaching. I think the tagline you suggested fits well with the image.

Thanks - focusing on the outcome is great - that's what people want after all. And I love the way the words draw your eye towards it.:)
Will the format work ok with the .com wording too?

Hello everyone
This is to thank you all for your contributions, ideas, suggestions, and responsiveness to my feedback. I am really impressed with how the whole process worked, and with such a short deadline too. I will tell all my friends!
I also want to
**ANNOUNCE THE WINNER**
which is BlueCherryGraphics, v2. I just loved the way you got the logo to dance!
There may be just one or two tweaks which I understand we can sort out in the revisions forum.
Best wishes everyone

Hi Jennifer, well I just loved what you had done with it, so the choice was easy. Will get back to you very soon with any revisions.
One thing I'm not clear on, do I get the logo in different formats (someone has suggested square version and rectangular version for example, rectangular being better for website header). Also I'd like to get business cards made up and some other stationery, I've seen some designers doing mock ups of their designs on business cards, is this something you can do within the competition or would I need to negotiate separately?
Best wishes
Joanna

Hi,
You'll get the logo in different formats in terms of file formats. I provide: AI, EPS, PDF, TIF, GIF, PNG, JPEG, and BMP. I will also send grayscale in select formats as well as true black and white.
If you need different layouts, I can do a horizontal one and a more rectangular one.
For the business card, you can post a new project on Design Outpost or if you want to contact me via email, I can give you my pricing on card design.
Just let me know on the revisions.
Thanks!

Hi Jennifer, thanks for the info.
In terms of revisions:
Could you try reducing the offset of the shadow on 'wizardry' a bit? I like the look of the black and white version and wondered how the colour version would look with less white-space between the letters and the shadow
The .com addition didn't quite work for me, it seemed to break up the flow of the letters. Could you maybe experiment with it perhaps not in bold and in pink to see if that softens the impact?
Would it then be possible to get four slight permutations so I can keep my options open?
One with the strapline and coaching wizardry
One without the strapline and coaching wizardry
One with the strapline and coaching wizardry.com
One without the strapline and coaching wizardry.com
If that's outwith the terms of the competition let me know and I'll make my mind up!
I'll contact you separately re business cards etc once this is finalised. Many thanks

Hi Jennifer, thanks very much for these.
Is it possible to have all 4 versions?
If so, then I think that's us signed off, thanks.

(My favourite though is without the .com, and with the strapline. It flows the most.)
