We are expanding our online used book business by opening a retail store. So, we needed a new logo for our retail store.
After contacting a few local artists and getting some outrageous price quotes and lead times, I decided to search the web. I was very lucky to find this site.
We started a contest with a one-week deadline. We were absolutely blown away with both the quality and the quantity of entries on our contest. The only tough thing about this site was choosing between all the fantastic logos in our contest.
We decided on MyChicken's (Flying Chicken Studios) design, which we thought reflected the personality of our store perfectly. After the contest ended, MyChicken immediately assisted us with some modifications that we requested. She then provided us with our new logo in nearly every file format available.
We also hired her to do some additional design work using our new logo (business cards, website banners, t-shirts). Her designs were absolutely perfect. Her turnaround was nearly immediate. MyChicken could not have been more professional.
You can see the work she did to incorporate our logo into our website banner on our website (http://www.readinkbookstore.com). (Hopefully it's okay to post it.)
Here's why we love this site:
If you go the traditional route of hiring a designer, you will only get input from one creative mind. On this site, we received input from over a dozen artists. In our case, MyChicken came up with a concept that we never even considered. Had we gone the traditional route, who knows if this concept would have even been presented.
We love the way this site runs its contests. Funds aren't release to the artists until the design is complete. This certainly wasn't an issue for us, but we were much more confident because of the risk-free way this site is run.
Our turnaround was unbelievable. The local graphic designers expected 30 days to complete the full project. On this site, with MyChicken's help, we had a logo and a bunch of marketing materials in just 10 days.
The value was amazing. We got better work than our local designers could have provided for a fraction of the cost.
