I want to thank you all in advance for your help with my company's logo. I'm quite excited to get things rolling and need some help setting the design direction. I'm going to post the creative brief below.

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
sevenwire

What type of product or service do you offer?
Web application development.

How long have you been in business?
A number of years of part-time work. A couple weeks of full-time freelance.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
I need a well-designed logo that can set the design direction for my company materials.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
March 16 (but it's quite flexible ... I just want to get something that I'll be proud to use)

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience.
Small and medium-sized business owners.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
I don't see that changing.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
Generally, I'm quite open to the ideas you'll come up with. I'm having a real tough time thinking up a design direction for the company. I'm hoping that your creativity can help set that direction.

What type of logo would you like?
I'm ok with either a typographic logo or a logo accompanied by a symbol. I'm a technology/web company and my name sounds pretty techy, but I really don't want to go that direction with my company presentation. I don't think I want to see wires, circuit boards, globes or other tech symbols in the logo. The name "sevenwire" is one word, but "seven" and "wire" can be treated differently (color, style, etc.).

Here are links to logos that I do like:
I'll look for some and post them over the course of the next week. Don't let this stop you though, send some concepts along.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I don't have a specific request. I can tell you that I'd like to stay away from purple, yellow, and orange.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I don't have anything specific.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Here are a few abstract words I'd like associated with my business/products: intuitive, thoughtful, efficient, sophisticated, usable, practical, polished, simple, effective, intelligent.

What is your tagline or slogan?
I don't have one and I don't think I want one.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
A quick sentence that describes what we do could be something like: "We carefully consider the needs of the end-user while developing web-based systems that simply and effectively accomplish their intended purpose."

Where will your new logo be used?
To start with, we'll be using the logo on websites, business cards, letterhead, and envelopes.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company: intelligent web-based systems.

nhr, thanks for starting things off! I like what you've done. I prefer #2 over #1. I do think I'd like it better if the bars that make up the 7 were connected and the same thickness as the W's bars.

Here are a few examples of logos on this forum that I dig. I will be offline for a while today, but I should be able to pop back on tonight.

Thanks for the creative ideas ... keep them coming!

Logoholik: I like what you have going in v6 and v7. I'm not sure which I like better, however. I'll be thinking about it.

BlueCherry: I like this concept. I would like to see it with a different font for Sevenwire and different colors. Probably a sans-serif font.

djaka: Thanks for entering! Very nice, but I'm not sure I like the squiggle. Maybe it's just too far out of proportion with the co. name?

Thanks for all the work, you guys are putting together some great ideas!

BlueCherry: Thanks for the revision. I like it better for sure. I'm not sure that concept is what I'm looking for though.

nhr: Of your submissions, I like v3.0 (1) the best so far. If I was to choose this logo I'd want to play around with color combos and possibly a different font for "sevenwire".

All: Sorry to be so vague about what I'm looking for. It's just because I actually don't know. I'm sort of going by what strikes me. I like the logos that have been presented so far, there are a few potentials, but so far nothing has struck me as being the one I should choose.

Again, I love the creative submissions. I'm glad I chose DesignOutpost. I'd love to see more ideas if you've got 'em. Thanks!

Here's a look from me.

brandonarbini
03-13-2007, 08:53 AM
Sorry for the long delay. Yesterday was a very busy day for me. So, back to the logo!

Bill: Thanks for joining in! I like <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259675&postcount=23">v1</a>. Sevenwire is one word without a capital "W", however. I like that you chose just the "7" without the "w" in the symbol. I like "7w" as a symbol, but this was just something different.

Unorthodox: Thanks for the submissions. I definitely like <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259700&postcount=25">v2</a> better than <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259685&postcount=24">v1</a>. But, I'm really not a fan of the symbol used in either.

Fabian: Thanks for submitting a concept! Sorry, but I'm not really feeling <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259718&postcount=26">v1</a>. I especially don't like the way the "n" and "w" are playing together.

Logoholik: A couple more <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259719&postcount=27">great</a> <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259721&postcount=28">submissions</a>. I like the treatment, but not crazy about the symbol. I might possibly like a stylized "7" better?

Taldo: Your <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259854&postcount=29">v1</a> is great. Is a great start. I'm not feeling the symbol, though it's very creative. I really like your work and would love to see more from you if possible.

Castell: Thanks for entering! 4 concepts (<a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259860&postcount=30">v1</a>, <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259876&postcount=31">v2</a>, <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259888&postcount=32">v3</a>, and <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259900&postcount=33">v4</a>), wow! I'm quite sorry to say that they aren't really jumping out to me. My favorite of the 4 is v4, but the symbol isn't quite right for me. I really appreciate the time you're putting in on this!

Freetime: I like the concept in <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=259919&postcount=35">v1</a>. It's reminiscent of the <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/gallery/showpic.php?pid=149&aid=44&uuid=35">L5 logo</a> that I actually like a lot. The "7W" seems a little awkward to me.

It seems like the symbol is becoming a sticking point for me. I'm going to think about the symbol and post some direction in a little bit. Again, you guys are really impressing me, great job! I really appreciate it.

Jason: Thanks for your <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=260096&postcount=38">v1</a> submission. I'm not a fan of the orange, but it's a good simple logo.

Castell: You're just pumping them out. <a href="http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=260145&postcount=40">v6</a> is my favorite so far, but I'd prefer the "w" to be on the lower right instead of the top right.

I'd love to see some submissions on dark backgrounds. Maybe black, dark gray, dark blue, maybe a color like the <a href="http://daringfireball.net/">Daring Fireball</a> blue/gray?

Still thinking about a symbol, I'll come up with something soon.

So, we're one day away from the deadline. I love the submissions so far, but want to make sure you've all got your ideas out there. I feel like I may have been too restrictive in my creative brief. I want to throw that out. Pretend like there isn't anything other than my business name and what I do in my brief. I want to see your most creative ideas (even ones with wires).
