Hello,
I am looking for a logo for my website http://www.msromance.com. The site features romantic ideas, tips, date ideas, and such things. The main uses of the logo will be on the website, business cards, and shirts. With that being said, it is important that it has a white (transparent) background, but would also work with a slightly different background color. The delivered logo will need to have an alpha channel, and not be flattened onto a white background.
The logo needs to look clean, elegent, and it should 'flow'. The main MsRomance.com text should be done in a long stroke cursive script of sorts. The colors of the logo are flexible, and can be obtained from http://www.msromance.com. Red, however would be an asset. As long as the colors work well with the website, and it can be converted to black and white for a business card, it is ok. As for additional elements on the logo, anything such as hearts, rose pedals, roses, etc... can be used. As long as it represents "romance" it should be considered. The logo should look like MsRomance.com (without the period after Ms, otherwise it might confuse somebody into thinking the website was http://ms.romance.com) Also, the com should not have a capital 'C'.
The logo doesn't have to be in vector form, but I would like a copy of it that could be printed at 20 inches 300 dpi. Any format is acceptable including PSD if that is the format you work in.
I am very open to ideas and suggestions, so feel free to come up with your own variations. Ask me if you have any questions, or need some clarification.
Competition will end the 30th of September.
Thank you for your time,
Julie Steeper

Hello coredesign,
Thanks for the submission.
Top Logo:
Like - The color, the font used for MsRomance, and the way the 'M' is trailed by something before it.
Dislike - MsRomance should be MsRomance.com like the bottom one, and the .com should be the same font size as 'omance'. 'Romantic tips, ideas and more' should be a little bigger. As for the rose, there is something I don't like about it, and I am not exactly sure what. Could you try a variation with hearts and or other roses. You can also place rose petals at the base of the logo as though they have fallen from a rose. Also, the .com at the end can possibly be the same color as the 'Ms'
Bottom Logo: It doesn't express the elegance that I am going for. The font is too chunky, and doesn't 'flow' the same as the top one does. Although this isn't what I am looking for, feel free to try anything since I don't know exactly what I am looking for.
Thank you, and keep up the great work!

Hello dynagirl,
Thanks for the submission. Here are a few suggestions.
we like the font and the colour. It has the elegance and smoothness that we were going for. Can we get rid of the hearts for now. How about placing a rose above the 'omance. com'. The rose I envision is very simple, without much detail. I want to be able to see the outline of the rose petals, but I want the rose to be more of a vector line art rather then an illustration. If you can - make the rose an extension of the text.
And then at the base of the text place rose retals along the bottom, as though they have fallen from the rose.
A really important note is that when put to black and white 50% threshold the logo needs to still look good.
Thanks and keep up the great work.
Julie Steeper
END.
Hello coredesign.
Thanks for the revisions. Some suggestions.
While I agree that the bottom logo is more readable, it doesn't capture what I am trying to capture - so it's not going to work. Thanks though.
And for the first logo - Can we try changing the rose to a heart? But I don't want the heart to be filled in - rather just an outline. And can we move 'romantic tips, ideas and more' above 'omance.com'? And then please try to place rose petals along the bottom of the text. I know that you suggested that the petals make the logo look 'dirty', but I'd still like to give it a try.
A really important note is that when put to black and white 50% threshold the logo needs to still look good.
Other then that - keep up the good work and we look forward to seeing these revisions and any other ideas that you might have.
Have a good one,
Julie Steeper

Here is my first submission....
Thoughts behind this design:
- The artwork is of cupid's arrow is very recognizable, but I tried to do it in a way that looked hand-drawn and crafty, with a little whimsy. When I think of romantic things, some of the most memorable things I've received have been done by hand - notes, drawings, cards, etc. That is what I'm trying to communicate.
- The type is meant to do the same thing by using a face that has a hand-written appearance, but the beauty and elegance of a script. To me, it evokes the sense of a love note or poem.
Let me know what you think.

Hello Coredesign,
No problem.
I did see the rose petals, but I was wondering if you could have them all along the bottom of the text, rather then just below the rose (or heart) at the start. I understand that they are tough to draw, but could you more of the petals that you have already drawn....just all along the bottom of the text?
Thanks! Have a good one.
Julie

Hello Wiseguy.
Thanks for your submissin. For the first two logo's: I really like the idea of the Cupid's Arrow and I think that you are communicating whimsy, romantic and soft. I don't like the colours in the second Cupid's Arrow Logo. I prefer the first one.
A few suggestions about the first Cupid's Arrow Logo: could you change the cream colour in the arrow to just white. And I also wondered if the arrow could, somehow, interact with the text. Maybe the feathers of the arrow could begin to the left of the text and the point could finish at the right (so the word is like the body of the arrow). Or the arrow could pierce the word, or somehow one of the letters could be a part of the arrow. Do you see what I mean?
And your final logo (Out On The Town) was something different then what I thought I was looking for. And although I am not crazy about the image, I really like the text that you used. Very elegant. Could you get rid of the image of the couple and maybe add a heart or a rose to the logo. Maybe you could put a small heart to one side of the word OR lay a rose beneath the text. Surprise me.
But thanks for your great work. We appreciate it. Keep up the good work.

Hello Taldo,
We really like it. The design and softness of the rose is what we were looking for.
Could you try to lay the rose horizontal? The way it is now won't really work in the space that we have alloted for a logo on our website..it's too tall. But if you can lay the rose down, then it might work better.
Also could you add "Romantic tips, ideas and more" somewhere into the logo.
Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Julie
P.S Great idea to have the heart in place of the period before "com"! :)

Hello Taldo,
Thanks for making the changes. I think I like that design better, but I am afraid that it is still too tall. Is there any way that you can make the rose not so high/big?
Thanks! Keep up the good work.

Hello Ed,
These designs are too busy for the look I am trying to achieve. Can you try to simplify the look? I don't mind the script or the hearts above the letters in the second logo. Can you also try to add 'Romantic Tips, Ideas and More' somewhere in the logo?
Thanks for your entry! Keep up the good work.

Hello dynagirl,
I liked your first logo better (the one with the hearts). The petals in these last two logos are nice, but there is just something about that rose that I don't like. Can you maybe try a different rose and maybe not worry about connecting it to the word? I know that's what I said I wanted, but I am not sure that I like that look afterall.
I really do like the font that you use and the colour of the font.
Could you also please try to add 'Romantic tips, ideas and more' somewhere in the logo?
Thanks for the revisions! Keep up the good work.

Hello coredesign,
Thanks for the revisions! The petals in the first logo really complete the logo nicely. I appreciate that you took the time to do that - even though the petals are such a pain to draw! For now let's leave that logo as it is.
The second logo I am not as crazy about. I actually like the rose much better then I like the heart. But it was what I had asked for, so I am glad to know that it's not what I want! Thanks!
Your designs were great. We appreciate your hard work and the many revisions you made for us.
Have a great weekend,

Zing,
Hi. Thanks for your entries. For your first logo the rose petals are very nice. I like them and I think that they look good. Can you try to move the heart and place it either to the top right or the top left of the words. I'm not crazy about the heart where it is. If you want you could change the dot in (.com) to a small heart that has a similar look to the larger heart you already drew. Can you also add 'Romantic Tips, Ideas and More' somewhere into the logo?
Another suggestion is that instead of the heart at the top you could lay a rose horizontally, and then place a couple of more petals along the bottom (but not as many petals as is in your 2nd logo). Keep the petals the same size, but just add a few more. With this suggestion...we would get rid of the heart all together.
The second logo is pretty busy and I'm not crazy about how the rose petals cut off the bottom of the letters. While I like lots of rose petals, I find that in this logo there are just too many of them --- so in fact they almost don't even look like rose petals anymore. Do you know what I'm saying?
Of the two logos - I find that the 1st one is much more appealing to look it. I hope that my suggestions are useful.
I look forward to seeing your revisions and keep up the good work.
Thanks. Have a good weekend.

Hello Zing,
I like that logo much better then the other two that you submitted. I think that the improvements give it a very nice feel. I cannot think of any more suggestions, so let's just leave it at that for now. If I think of any - I will let you know.
Thanks for the revisions. Have a great weekend.

Ok thanks, I would love to hear more suggestions as I'm not entirely sure what you are looking for. I will try to come up with some other versions shortly... Can you give us any ideas to which logos you like the most please?
heres some smoother looking petals:

Hi Zing,
I checked out the final revision that you submitted. The petals do look better, I agree. Can you make them a bit larger?
The heart, as it is now, makes the logo too tall. This logo probably would not fit into the spot that we have reserved for it on the website. It's too tall. So let's try to make the heart a little smaller...and maybe try to use a completed heart this time. Or you can use the same size heart and just place it on the same line as 'Ms.Romance' - but place it after the words or before them. Whichever you think would look better - or maybe try both.
Please make the 'Romantic tips, ideas and more' a bit smaller.
Originally I had asked for font that was fancier then the one that you used. Your logo looks more modern then the logos that use script for font. And to be honest - I like a script that is a bit fancier with long, soft strokes. So maybe you could find a font that is somewhere between the font that you used and the fonts that some of the other submissions feature.
I hope these suggestions help. I do like your logo, but as of yet I have not decided which logo (of all submitted) suits me best.
Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Julie Steeper
I will have all of your requests completed by the end of today, thanks for being so helpful :)

Hey everyone,
Sorry it has taken me so long to post back suggestions. I've been busy. ~ Julie
Hello Coxy,
Thanks for the submissions.
Logo # 1: I love the way that you used the heart in place of the 'o'. Very creative. The lettering is quite neat...different then fonts others have used (but very classy still). Can you change the pink of 'ms' to red please? But a deeper red then the red that you used for logo #2. And if you could also add 'Romantic tips, ideas and more' to the logo that would be great. As well we would like '.com' to be added to the end of Ms.Romance (so people know we are a web based company).
Logo #2: I also like the font used for this logo. I think that it would look better if the font used for the 'ms' were not so different then the font used for 'romance'. I like that they aren't exactly the same - but could you try a font that it a little softer for the 'ms'. Also if you could change this red to a deeper red that would be appreciated - as well add 'Romantic tips, Ideas and More' AND '.com' to the logo.
Logo # 3: Absolutely beautiful, but this logo is too big for our purposes - so I don't think it will work for us. But it is really beautiful, and I love the way that the rose petal is also used for the 'r' in romance. Awesome!
Thanks for the submissions. I look forward to seeing any revisions you decide to make.
Keep up the good work.

Hello Dynagirl,
Thanks for this new logo. We really like it - and are hoping that we can take what we like best from this logo and combine it with what we like best from the other logo. This is the vision that I see for this logo:
Instead of the rose - can you use the hearts that you used in your first logo. But change the black outline around the roses to a white outline. Next could you centre the 'Romantic Tips, Ideas and More' below 'Ms.Romance'. Place one of the smaller hearts (without the lines through it) in front of 'Romantic tips...' and another heart at the end of the '..Tip, Ideas and More'. We want these hearts to be about the same size as the lower case letters in 'Romantic Tips, Ideas and More'. So instead of the 6 smaller hearts - we will have just two.
As well as the revisions mentioned above: could you also try another alteration (we are thinking about this for sizing for our website). Make the two larger hearts the same size as the capital 'M'. Next make the 'Romantic tips, Ideas and More' (as well as the two hearts) a bit smaller and move this above 'omance.com'. In this way the whole logo will be a rectangular shape.
We hope that you can try both of these.
I hope that I have made myself understandable. Sounds a bit confusing to me (even though I wrote it).
We are really looking forward to seeing these revisions. Keep up the great work.

Hello Just G,
Thanks for the submission. We like the logo, but we're not crazy about the colours used. Can you use some of the colours that we use on our website (www.msromance.com)? Also can you add a small '.com' to the end of the text. As well please add 'Romantic tips, Ideas and More' below the main text and align it with the right of the logo.

Dynagirl,
Wow! We are really pleased with the way that the revisions turned out. Just one suggestion - we're worried that the logo might be hard to read. Is there any way that you could make the font more legible/clear - especially the "Ms.R" part of the logo. Other then that, let's leave the logo as is. And if I can think of any more ideas that come to mind - I'll let you know. And we would love to see any more ideas that you might have.
Thanks so much for all your great work.

Hey Taldo,
Thanks for the revisions. One suggestion: the size of the rose is great. Because I am thinking of putting this on a business card - I wondered if you could please remove the swirls behind the words (I love them on the comptuer but on paper I think that they won't work). That's my only suggestion - other then that we'll leave the logo as is.
Thanks so much for your great work - and we would love to see any more ideas that you might have.

Hi Just G,
Thanks for the revisions. To the left of the text, could you please place the heart (but without the swirls going through it). Also please make the heart smaller - it's too tall for the spot on our site where it will be placed. I still like the swirls - I wonder if the swirl design (without the heart) can be elongated and 'squished down' - and then placed below 'MsRomance.com'. And then move the 'Romantic tips, ideas and more' above the text (but still alinged to the right).
And my final suggestion is that I'm not crazy about the yellow colour - could you try to use another shade of red in place of the yellow?
That's all. We're very pleased with the revisions made and we look forward to see these revisions.
Thanks for your time and have a good day,

I made some small changes to the type to make it clearer around the "MsR". Bascially, I separated the Ms from the Romance slightly and I trimmed back the line that shoots off the front/top of the M. I think it helps. I'm worried that if I were to do much more, it would take away from the romantic feel of the font, but let me know what you think.
