Company Details

1a) Name of Company
Company name is Cerebrosoft. However, B*Gallery is our only product so the site should be branded primarily with the B*Gallery name.

1b)Company Tag Line or slogan:
"powerful image publishing software"

1c) Do you have a company logo?
Just the small "Cerebrosoft" logo seen at the bottom of our existing home page. This should stay small in the new site, and be limited to appearing in a footer area. We don't have a B*Gallery logo.

1d) Do you have a corporate visual identity
No.

1e) What is the nature of your business?: Briefly describe your products or services:
We sell B*Gallery, an image publishing application that creates web galleries. The look and feel of the generated web gallery is template driven and highly customizable. A user can continue adding to a gallery over the years as they accumulate more photos.

1f) Who is your target market? Who are you hoping to reach with your site?
B*Gallery is aimed at hobbyists/amateur and pro photographers that have a lot of content they would like to publish. B*Gallery runs on Win32, OS X, and Linux.

Website Details

1b) Do you have an existing website? If so, what is the URL?
Yes, http://b-gallery.biz

2b) IMPORTANT: Please list at least 3 URLs (web addresses) of high quality sites that you like the look of.
(I like the first three the best...)
http://www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto/
http://www.cocoatech.com/pf4/
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/
http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/default.mspx

3b) What colors or color schemes would you like?
I'm open on this, since we don't have a corporate color scheme.

4b) List the Navigation links for your Site:
Download, Purchase, Support, More Info, Tutorials, Sample Galleries.

5b) What type of look are you trying to achieve? (e.g. clean, high-tech, conservative, warm, flashy, etc.)
clean & professional, but not like a 3-piece suit (stale and boring- think Apple, not IBM). I would like to convey a sense of creativity as well... something that gives the sense of photography and lots of photos being published, shared, etc. We also run on Vista and soon, OS X 10.5, so we're new and fresh and want to convey this.

6b) Please provide the addresses of competitors' sites, if possible:
http://tinyurl.com/qgoj6 (Corel)
http://tinyurl.com/pw5v (Adobe)
http://www.webgallerywizard.com/

7b) Do you have any images for use in the design of your site?
I can provide screenshots from the new version of our product, currently in beta, if a designer feels they'd like to work with them. Alternately I can provide a link to download the beta version of our software. Otherwise I don't think I have any imagery worth saving. We have a nice application icon but it really isn't website material (even though it is used on our existing home page.) Also, we might be having a "Box Shot" developed, so you could use a stock box shot as a placeholder. However if you want to build in a box shot it would have to be done carefully or else I think we risk looking like a site selling a mid 90's shareware product.

Deadlines and Deliverables

1c) What is the deadline for the design of your project?
April 2, 2007.

2c) What is required breakdown of the files you require our designers to supply you with on finalization of your project?
I would like a template HTML page & images, including an "inside" page.

Thanks, I look forward to working with you.

Here is an initial concept from me.

Thanks

Sev- thanks for the update. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
---------------
For everyone else, I'll probably be extending the deadline for this project so please feel free to jump in.

Please note: The screenshots on our existing website were pretty horrible so I've attached a .zip with some new material. The zip contains a screenshot of our application, and several screenshots of sample galleries produced with our product. Feel free to use these, but don't feel compelled to do so if you have a better idea.
---------------
Zoe, nice first cut :) - this design has potential. The overall page layout is pretty solid, only the two images need work and that is because you had very little to work with. I've attached some other content that hopefully you can apply some creativity to. Please consider the notes below to be me thinking out loud with some general ideas to help you along, rather than me telling you exactly what to do.

(1) Box shot: I like the overall idea. Perhaps you can use something I've attached to replace the image on the box. I suspect you'll have the best eye for which screenshot will look best. Also, it would be cool if you could add a small Windows, Mac and Linux icon to the box since we run on all platforms- for example, see the icons on this page. (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html)

(2) Lower right area, below box shot: Can you also update this area with some of the screenshots I've attached? I can imagine something with some dimension... for example, something with the perspective of the four participant iChat AV window here (http://tinyurl.com/26hpg2) (far right.) I'm pretty flexible, but I think it would be neat if this kind of felt like a "product showcase" since the big "sample galleries" link is right above this area. Just as a note, our themes are all XHTML compliant, so if you felt you wanted to add a little something to the mix you could try to work in an XHTML logo to this bottom right area. I think with the right touch, the bottom right area can be really slick.

Thanks!
Brian

Well, attaching didn't work- 3mb is too big. You can download the zip file from here. (http://b-gallery.biz/beta/bgallery-images.zip)

Anne:

Thank you, your design is professional and put together well. However, I think the other two entries thus far do better at conveying our message of selling professional, quality and creative software. I'd be interested to see something creative done with the screenshots I provided to dress your design up a bit. I don't have a problem with your use of gradients in the background, but I'd like to see a different color scheme. See color comments below in Sev's feedback.

-------------------------------
Sev:

Thank you...great work. The layout is pretty much perfect, and the layered screenshots look great. Only two comments:

1) I actually like the color scheme- looks professional w/o trying to imitate anybody. However, my business partner feels it is a bit too orange-brown and would like to try an alternate scheme- perhaps something Apple-ish... (blue, black, sliver type stuff). Can you try this, if it isn't too much trouble?

2) I'm not sure about the two images in the header. I think the image in the upper left is a CD? Can we either try something else in this area or remove the image? Also, is the image in the upper right a box shot, or something like a light table? I think having an image in this area is visually very important so I'd like to keep something there. Let me know what you were thinking for this area. If it is supposed to be a box shot, perhaps we just need to make it look a little more like a box.

I will get right on the changes.

It's a CD... I will see what else I can come up with or remove it.

It's an actual software/DVD box, the old boxes are kind of out-dated now.

Met me know if you want the old school type software box instead.

Thanks very much,

Sev (:

Hello,

Here is a difference approach at the color scheme, I have also made the software/DVD box large and it's more pronounced now?

Hi Sev:

Excellent color scheme. We like it a lot.

I'm on board with using a DVD box shot. I actually liked the original smaller size better. Can we change the type of DVD box, so that it looks like a black plastic DVD box with an insert? Sort of like this (http://www.dvpostvideo.com/marble%20DVD%20box.jpg) . I think it would also help the effect if you could make the big "B" wrap over on to the spine and possibly add the product name, "B*Gallery", somewhere on the box. A last thought (only if you think it might work) would be to add an unmarked CD like this (http://www.trueboxshot.com/img/screen/TrueBoxShotWithCDtn.png) or this (http://www.truefans.net/images/buy/dvd_box_shot.jpg).

Thank you,
Brian :)

Hello,

The due date on this project is currently Apr. 2. Anne & Zoe, is this enough time for you to complete your revisions? The contest got started a little late so I want to make sure everyone has time. I can probably extend by a couple days if necessary.

Thanks,
Brian

Hello Sev and Zoe:

Fantastic work from both of you. I'd be very happy with either of your templates! I'll plan on making a final decision on Monday, the due date.

Thanks,

Hello Brian,

Thank you for the compliment. :)

I came across this nifty little "Flash" book today and thought it could be a "3D" way of showing your galleries on the home page as you can turn each page. I am not 100% sure how easy it is to add to - but if you like the concept, I will look into it further.

Thanks

Zoe

Brian,

Here is an example of how the flash books work.

You simply create your images to the correct size of the page, and tweak some code in a file (which is really easy just copy and paste) and you have a new page. :)

This is one I did for one of my clients a while back - Flipping Flash Book (http://www.demex.com.au/do/emag/)

Hi Zoe,

That is a cool effect... will have to keep that in mind for future adventures. For the B*Gallery site, I think I prefer the static image you made for the bottom right- it came out really good. Thanks for the creative thoughts,

Brian

Hello Brian,

Fantastic let's get to work!... are there any changes you require to the homepage and do you know what inside page you would like me to create?

Thanks Fabian! :)

Hi Sev, no changes are required on the home page- looks great as-is. For the inside template, lets try the "more info" ( see page at old crappy site http://b-gallery.biz/product_info.html )

Thanks,
Brian

Hey Brian,

What do you think of this for the inside page?

irun5k
04-04-2007, 02:09 PM
Hi Sev, that page will work good. I can pretty easily apply that template to all my other pages.

Do you have an estimate on how long it will take to assemble the final package? I don't want to rush anything (I know quality takes time) but I'll be going on holiday Apr. 12 so it might be nice to have it wrapped up by then. Plus, I could work on building out the rest of the content on the long flight to Oz :)

Thank you
Brian

Hey Brian,

Excellent, I have sent the files over to my parter who does my slicing/coding process, he will be working on it tonight and tomorrow and hopefully I will have the whole package for you this time tomorrow.

Thank you.
