ResumePolish.com is a resume writing, editing and consulting service aimed at college students and professionals who need a expert's touch. While the company will offer writing and consulting, it's primary focus is on people who need their resume edited or "polished."
The logo and name are at the heart of the company. They state what we do and the angle we come from. The logo should reflect the company's committment to strength, individuality and style.
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
"ResumePolish.com"
What type of product or service do you offer?
Resume writing, consulting and polishing (editing.) Our primary focus will be retouching, polishing, editing, and perfecting existing resumes.
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
I want the logo to be clean, modern and effective. It should be something easily reproduced, recognizable and memorable. It should translate well in all formats, from print to web. It should evoke a strong sense of professionalism and style.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
April 16th
Audience Profile:
Please describe your target audience:
ResumePolish.com is geared towards college students and professionals. I want it to appeal to them, but I do not want to alienate anyone.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
I would like to see both text by itself and text with an icon. Ideally, I would like an icon that is recognizable on its own. I want a design that is really clean, simple, modern and sleek.
I want to play on the "polish" in our name. That is what separates us from our competitors. I am not as interested in seeing sheets of paper that symbolish resumes as I am in seeing an image of polish.
I have attached some pictures that respresent the modern, sleek, stylized feel I had in mind.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I am open to different color schemes. As stated previously, I do not want to alienate anyone. The colors should appeal to both men and women.
I like cobalt blue, but it can feel cold, so I'm not sure.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Attached are some samples of the look and feel I am going for. They illustrate the "sleek" feel I mentioned. This is bottled water, but because of the packaging it creates a modern, high class feel to it. While I'm not going for an elitist feel, I do want something very smooth and stylized.
Communication Strategy:
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
I would like the logo to convey a feeling of uniqueness, professionalism and strength.
Where will your new logo be used?
Print and web
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
The competitors have stale, boring logos that lack imagination and personality. I want an icon that is strong, memorable and evokes a sense of uniqueness.
List competitive URLs if possible
www.careerperfect.com
www.professionalresumes.com
www.resumewriters.com
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Quality. Style.
Thank you ahead of time to everyone that has taken the time to read and participate in this.
I am excited to begin working on this project! Good luck!

kaimere,
Thank you for your submission, but is not the direction I had in mind at all. I want an icon with text. The icon could be a jar of polish or something more abstract, but I want something sleek and stylish.
I tried to stress that in the notes. I want a strong symbol that stands alone. Something that is easily readable in a variety of formats and lends itself to branding.
I provided the attachments as a sample of a bottle I consider to be sleek and stylish. I was thinking maybe a jar along the same lines, but I didn't want to get too specific since I'm open to ideas.
Thanks!

I hope the notes I provided are clear. I tried to make them as detailed as possible to try to convey what I'm looking for without providing too many creative restrictions.
Is anyone interested in submitting their ideas? I know the level of talent here is exceptional and look forward to seeing everyone's submissions.
Thanks!

Can you try an illustration of a small canister of polish? I really want to play off the word "polish" in the name and would like to see a symbol of something tangible. The Voss water bottles are closer to the style I am looking for.. something sleek and stylish.
I was imagining a small jar that was a cross between the Voss style and a jar similar to this:
http://www.pfizerch.com/uploadedImages/product/Three_Flowers/prod_three_flowers_solid_lg.jpg
I was trying not to be that specific because I'm open to other ideas, but I want to focus on "polish" and not a sheet of paper.
Ideally the symbol would combine a resume in some way and / or the "resume polish" text.

it was not playing on the sheet of paper. there was a sign of polished R/P letters (glance). but if you really need it to be so literal, then ok :)

pracus - Thank you for the revision. That is closer to what I envisioned but it is so straight foward that it isn't captivating. I know you did as I asked, but I am looking for something that instantly registers with people as being polish, but still ties in with resumes.
I feel like I keep repeating myself, but I'm looking for something very unique, modern, cutting-edge, sleek and bold.
I like the jar, I just feel that it is missing depth and character. Can you please come up with some variations?
Thank you for your time and effort.
Note to other designers: I am still open to other entries and concepts.

Hi. another one from me.
The idea is simple.
One of the most happiest time (for me) is when seeing our work is out from the printer.
Now even more sophisticated. Every house is equipped with color printer. Seeing our child happiness when printing his first work.
I put ResumePolish not as a printer but I want people also enjoy what the process and result came out from the services.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks.

pracus - I also like this image: http://www.theshoemart.com/mas_assets/thumb/ALL_m_Shoe_Polish_501.jpg and this angle is more interesting: http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:oCos65naB0MRWM:http://www.outdoorgear.co.uk/pix/big/192003.jpg
Again, I have a feeling that a canister of just polish might be too straightforward, but I'm trying to find a way to incorporate that while keeping it simple and stylish..
LutFi - Thank you for your submission. I like the concept and the vibrance of the colors. Can you make the printer look more like one? I want it to stay simple, but I think it needs a litte more detail in order to better convey what it is. I'd also like to find a way to incorporate "polish" into the design, since that's the part of our name that separates us from our competition.
Thank you.

Deanna - Thank you! That is more in line with what I had initially envisioned. A couple notes:
1. Can you add the accent marks to "Résumé"?
2. Can you move the text below the image?
3. Can you try some different types of font? I am looking for something bold, stylish and professional.
4. Can you add a thin gold line to the rim of the top of the saucer? I just want something to illustrate that it's the top a little more
5. I like the shape of the paper, but can you try doing the lines in a brush stroke style? Can you also make the paper a little wider and maybe add some horizontal lines simulating text to it?
6. The black and white version gets kind of lost. Any ideas on how to make it clearer?
7. Can you also remove the ".com"? I don't know if it's necessary.
Thank you for your time and effort!

Deanna - Thank you once again. I think adding the gold line helped in the black and white version, but made it unecessarily complicated in the color version. It also draws too much attention. What do you think? Any ideas?
All designers:
Deanna's concept has given me an idea I'd like to try..
Can I see a canister of polish in a similar style as Deanna's but from a different perspective? I'd like to be almost level with the can, have the lid off and tilting against it with a stack of papers directly behind it. The angle should be such that the polish is the most prominent aspect and I can see some colored "polish" protruding from the top. The papers should look like a real stack of paper and not be completely neat.
I want minimal lines, but enough to clearly express the concept. The text, "RésuméPolish" would be on the canister itself. We could accomplish that by making the canister a little taller like in pracus' rendition, but with the feeling of Deanna's.
I hope that makes sense. If you have any questions, let me know!
Thanks! I'm starting to get excited.

To expand on the last idea further..
What if we had 2 cans closer to this angle..
http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/autogeek/reflectionspinnacle.jpeg
Though this is still too high. I want to be more level with ours and each canister has one word. One says, "Résumé" and the other "Polish." The Polish can could be turned in slightly so that part of the "P" is obscurred and the lid could be off than can and leaning against it. Behind both cans we still have the stack of paper.
So to reiterate, we have 2 medium size cans of polish in front of a stack of paper from a nearly level perspective. The style and feel of the logo is close to Deanna's Version 2 in Message #14.
I hope this helps. Thanks everyone! :)

LutFi - Thank you for the submission. Your design is close to what I had in mind. I did a quick sample to show you the perspective I am looking for.
All Designers:
I want the paper to be horizontal and the two canisters to be next to one another, appearing that they're in front of the paper stack. The stack should be higher than the canisters.
The canisters should appear very round and the words "Résumé" should appear on one, and "Polish" on the other. The words should look like they're on labels and they don't need to be perfectly centered. The cans don't have to be facing direclty forward.
The attached image shows the approximate relation of the cans and paper. I'd like to try one version with the lid off one can and one on and another version without any lids anywhere.
Thank you to everyone that has submitted something thus far.
Happy Easter!

LutFi - Thank you for making the requested revisions. A couple changes:
1. Can you try making the cans the same colors as Deanna's version 2 with the same font and accent marks?
2. You can remove the ".com"
3. I also feel like the text is not on the same line. Can you fix that?
4. Will you also try one version with the text below the image and not on the cans?
All Designers:
I like Deanna's concept and I like what LutFi is doing, but I am open to some completely new concepts as well. If anyone has any ideas even whether they are a take on this or completely different, I'd like to see them.

All Designers:
After much thought, I think the problem is that the design is too cartoony and complex. I'd like to try a really simple, modern, corporate look with just lines representing a jar and maybe a piece of paper. Something done in a very minimalistic way.
Even something more abstract might work as long as it ties to "polish" in some way.
I want an icon. The logo now has too much going on. Can someone try this?

To clarify what I'm looking for further, I found some examples of logos that I like..
http://logobee.com/logo-design-samples/samples27.htm
This is reflective of the simplicity and style I am aiming for. This is memorable, interesting, yet simple
http://logobee.com/logo-design-samples/samples45.htm
Another example of a simple, powerful icon. Of all the logos I've seen, this is one of my favorites. I love the style of the lines, the power and the simplicity.
http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/3760
Another example of a simple, meaningful logo
http://logobee.com/logo-design-samples/samples1.htm
I like this logo's simplity, power, symmetry
I hope these examples help. I am committed to developing a logo that represents my company accurately and appreciate everyone's efforts here. I know it can be frustrating, but I am trying to provide as much feedback and as many examples as possible.
If there's anything I can do to assist you or answer any questions you may have, please post them.

gig - Thank you for entering. I am looking for a logo with really clean simple lines. The best example I have found is:
http://logobee.com/logo-design-samples/samples45.htm
OffbeatDesign - Version 1 interests me. I like just seeing the corner of the paper. Is there a way to incorporate a little jar of polish in the same style? I'm not so concered about the text being inside the logo itself. Ideally, I'd like the image to stand on its own.
I also don't need ".com"
Deanna - I still really like your jar of polish. I am just concerned about the black and white version and I'm leaning towards just having lines like: http://logobee.com/logo-design-samples/samples45.htm
Is there a way to incorporate the paper into the rest? For example having the paper frame the text and jar of polish? I want to keep the whole thing as simple and iconic as possible.
BlueCherry - Both of your designs intrigue me. I really like the text in the 2nd version. If I am going to go with something more abstract, I'd like it to be completely abstract and have no relation to a resume or polish. Otherwise, I'd like it to tie into the name with an emphasis on polish.
The 1st version reminds me of a diamond, which is an interesting concept.. as if we're polishing a resume and making it into a jewel. That's an interesting concept. Can you try something else but along those same lines? That is something I had not thought of.
Thank you.
guetizo - Thank you for your submission. Can you try a logo in the style of http://logobee.com/logo-design-samples/samples45.htm ? I like the simplicity of your design, I just want something that has more power.

I was looking through the other contests and one gave me an idea..
What about just having the text "ResumePolish" but the "i" in "Polish" is sparkling and the sparkle is a simple, but interesting geometric shape? I do NOT want it to look corny, but as long as it was apparent that it was a sparkle that would imply polish and would achieve the simple icon I'm looking for.
Can someone try that?

I appreciate everyone's hard work. The deadline is approaching and before I make a final decision I'd really like to see a couple people try my idea in Message #35.
To reiterate - All I'm looking for is the text, "Resume Polish" with an interesting geometric shape that represents a sparkle above it. It could be "shining" from the dot above the "i" in "polish" or not connected at all. But I'd like to see just an interesting one or two colored one dimensional shape. The idea behind it is have it portray the sparkle of polish, but to be a simplified powerful icon that can be easily recreated in a variety of formats. Think of a logo like Nike. I'm looking for something that simple, but that still ties into the name.
Here is my feedback:
Offbeat - Thank you for making the requested revisions. I like your design and if I choose it I will have some minor revisions, but for now, no other changes are needed. Thank you for everything.
guetizo - Thank you. I like your design as well and do not have anything else I'd like you to change about it at this point.

Yes, that's what I intended, b/c in essence, you're not selling the act of polishing, but instead a polished resume (hence the reference to the jewel).
I will work on another idea there.

Carol,
I have been playing with your design to get it to work. I like the "sparkle," but felt that the logo was unbalanced.
I have attached what I've come up with. Can you recreate what I did and make these changes:
1. Add in the missing little point
2. Broaden the text a little bit so it's still legible with the sparkle laid over it
3. Try some different colors. I want something very clean and corporate. I already feel like the sparkle draws enough attention as it is, so it doesn't need to be a bright color
4. Add one accent mark over the last "e" in "resume"
5. Can you try a version with less points?
Thanks!

Carol,
Thank you for the revisions. We are getting closer..
A couple things I'd like to see:
1. Can you please add in the missing point? If the "sparkle" was a compass, it'd be the South Eastern point.
2. Can you try making the sparkle the "o" in "polish"? Please remove the "o" there now and move the sparkle. With this I'd like to see a couple variations:
A. Keep the same sparkle, just replace the "o" with it
B. Increase the size of the circle within the points, but leave the points the same size.
C. Increase the size of the circle within the points, but remove the "stroke" around the circle, so the points appear connected to the center circle
D. Please try a version of A, B, and C with the sparkle off-center as well as upright
E. Please also try a version with the sparkle a different color than both "resume" and "polish"
Thank you!

Carol,
Thank you for everything! I have decided to go with you. Congratulations!
I still have a few revisions though..
Out of everything, I like the design in Message 85 the best. Can you try adding the box around "polish" like in Message 83? "Polish" should change to white, but should remain the same font for now. The box should be the same blue as the sparkle and "polish" is now.
Also, I like the accent mark from Message 47. It doesn't have to be that exact one, but something closer to that.
After the design is perfect, we'll try some different colors.
Thanks for all your hard work, it is much appreciated.

Carol,
A couple things..
1. Can you simplify the points like in my attached sample? In my version, the points need to be adjusted a little bit, but I want to try going with fewer points
2. Can you use a sans sarif font for "polish" like in Message 83? I like how clean that looks, I just feel that in that version "resume" is way more dominant than "polish" and both words need equal weight. 92 is closer in that sense, but I want "polish" to be its own font
Thanks!

Carol,
Two quick things:
1. Can you make the "North" point as broad as the "South" point? It can stay the same length, I'd just like it broader
2. Can you try making "polish" fit inside the box? I want to compare how it'd look if the edges of the letter didn't hit the white surrounding it
Also, what is your opinion on the "polish" font? Which do you like better? Do you think "resume" would look good in the font "polish" is now?
We are 98% there! Thanks again!

If you don't want the letters of the word "polish" to go off the edges, I think it should be all caps. It fits better that way. I think I like version "c" the best - all with the same font..
Let me know what you think. :)

Carol,
I am just having some colleagues, friends and family members review this before I sign off on it.
I will let you know ASAP. Thank you!

Carol,
Can you recreate my version in Message 93, but just make the "North" point the same thickness like in Message 96? Every element should be the same except as in my version, except the North point.
I'd like that in an .ai or .eps file as well as C from Message 96. I will play with it some more in Illustrator. I won't waste your time trying to figure out the colors, I can do that myself as well.
Thank you for everything!
