Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Long version: Research Baseball inc.
Short version: RBi (notice lower “i”)

What type of product or service do you offer?
This will be for a site we are starting www.researchbaseball.com which will offer stats of the game going back to 1871.

How long have you been in business?
Just starting. We have been incorporated for two weeks now.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
We want to offer a logo that will stick in the minds of our visitors, there are a few rather large baseball stat sites. We plan on competing against these monster sites from the start of our site being complete.

What are your long term goals?
To be THE site that everyone visits to get the information they are needing when it comes to baseball statistics

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
April 20th. This will allow everyone plenty of time to enter. But once we see the logo we like, we reserve the right to shorten the contest. When we decide to shorten the contest we will give notice so any designers who are currently working on a design, or any who care to enter on the last minute.

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Sports fans of all ages.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Something hip, something clean. We want to leave the logo creation to the design team, but currently we are liking the idea of using the initials RBi. Since it has it’s own meaning in the baseball stat world. So it would be nice to see both RBi and Research Baseball inc. in the logo versions.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
As far as colors go, we're open to anything. Please be adventurous in your choice of colors. Just do whatever feels good. But keep in mind as stated above… Once we see something we like we will let everyone know. This includes the color scheme of the logo design. Until we see the perfect color combination we will leave this area open for the designers.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
We have brainstormed on this topic a lot over the past 2 weeks. It would be easy to add some sort of baseball related icon. Equally easy to add a research related icon. The only thoughts that we had in mind was a simple idea. This is not required simply an idea…

A baseball setting next to the “R” in “RBi” and a magnifying glass covering 1/3 of the ball.. the threads on the ball are normal sized, but when you see the threads through the magnifying glass the threads are bigger… simple concept, and might not look that good.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
We are just looking to a logo that will display a high level of professionalism.

What is your tagline or slogan?
We currently do not have one, but if someone thinks of something clever… we are open for suggestions.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?“This place is legit”

Where will your new logo be used?
On the header of our site, in promotional banners, and in other marketing campaigns.

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
http://www.baseball-reference.com/
Logo offers nothing.

http://www.baseball-almanac.com/
the recently redid their logo… and it looks nice… for what it is… It totally has the “almanac” thing going… isn’t our style at all it isn’t crisp enough… nor is it print friendly.

http://www.thebaseballcube.com/
No logo used.

http://retrosheet.org/
appears to have been created in MS Paint.

In general, baseball stat sites currently get by with rather plain-looking image logos. Most visitors don't take much time to notice the logo while researching the data. By using Design Outpost, I hope to bring something a little more original to help us out since we are a start up company competing against the monster sites.

List competitive URLs if possible
Done.

What sets you apart from your competitors?
Visit the above sites and tell me… is it organized? Is it simple to read? Search? The answer to most visitors would be a simple “NO!” We want to change that. We want to offer statistics without all the annoying misleading links… ads and jumbled layouts.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
#1 baseball statistic site on the internet.

NHR,

Can we get some color variations on ver 1.1?

Perhaps get a magnifying glass that is more vintage/real looking??

I really like this version the best of the three you displayed.
Thanks for entering...

sort of slow on the entries....

Also is there a reason I am not getting emails telling me when someone post on this thread? I have it set to get instant notifications... but I have yet to receive one...

Jon,
I like it... a couple edits please?

#1 the "RB" is too tall... can you shorten that a bit to be closer to the size of the "i"? slightly larger is fine, but keep in mind this logo will be in the top left corner of a website and we don't want to to be 200 pixels tall...

#2, on the contest you did for us before you offered variations on the font style... mind doing this for us here as well... Font style and color variations would be great...

Closing, I really like the use of the home plate... it is sharp.

Thanks for entering!

Cant wait to see the edits.

ajclay

lets see color changes on b and f, also on the original version, you had the home plate that was greyish... can we get that back?

please
thanks!

Jon,

How about the "RB" in this color: R/G/B - 127/27/27
the "i" in this color: R/G/B - 64/64/64

The plate outlined in black...

That is one color combo that comes to mind...
Or perhaps something more "earth tone"

like the clors shown here:

http://www.rowmark.com/rotary/earthtones/earthtones_chips.jpg

Let's go with "B" for right now, no need to show the color edits in both fonts...

i like where you are... we just need to tune into being a research site... think more of a official website... historic if you will...

On next revision if you could give us various sizes as well..
shrink the logo down really really small... too..

I want to see what it looks like if small... (to make sure it is clear.)

using your magnifying glass idea..

Thanks, Paula
Paula,

Thanks for entering.

Can we also see some color variations on this one?

also, can we see a logo in color what matches the size you have your black logo?

Our main concern with your logo is it might be too tall for the use on a website...

I attached a link to some earthtone colors.. "bright colors" might not be what we need for this logo... think historic data.... that is what we will be offering...

I like it tho...

thanks!

I hope that people will be joining in on our contest soon as well!!

Thank you for the feedback :)

Color variations:

nhr,
Can we get you to follow suit with the others and offer it in the colors I provided above...

How about the "RB" in this color: R/G/B - 127/27/27
the "i" in this color: R/G/B - 64/64/64

The plate outlined in black...

That is one color combo that comes to mind...
Or perhaps something more "earth tone"

like the clors shown here:

http://www.rowmark.com/rotary/earth...tones_chips.jpg (http://www.rowmark.com/rotary/earthtones/earthtones_chips.jpg)

Also, the threads in the baseball are too close together... any chance go spreading them out to make it look more like a real baseball?

:)Paula,
The latest version does not do it for us, sorry. I think it is the yellowish/peach color used. Perhaps use a more real color for the baseball? and im not sure what color to the "ResearchBaseball inc." lettering. But that color just didnt work out....

This project is now a week old, and we have had 4 concepts given, by 3 designers, I hope some more entries will be made.

Do I need to offer more direction on what we are looking for?

I'm just worried that we are not going to be gettin more entries...

freetime said they would enter... but I am worried we are not getting enough entries...

hope to see more soon...

ajclay

I was talking to one of our investors and he said, maybe "Earth-tones" is not the proper description of a color scheme we are looking for...

He suggest that I use the words "rustic" & "historic"

We are going to be offering historic data, we want to have a memorable looking logo but we don't want to stray too far away from what we are offering...

The use of the magnifying glass and baseball is still nice, but we need more of an authentic look... not clipart look....

Hope this helps drive more entries... :)

see ya soon!

A little different take.

This is based on baseball cards since they have the stats on back (although I wasn't familiar enough w/ them to know what text to put on back :) )

First off I really REALLY am happy you entered... ;) A few tweaks to your logo.

http://www.satman100.com/ozzie/cardbk-l.jpg
there is a link to a real baseball card. if you wanted to try to make the "card" look more real, that would be great.. We like the idea of the card...

But what we liked more about your logo was the lettering of the RBi. and the way it is outlined, nice touch... So even if you scrap the baseball card, it might not be doable since the logo will be rather small in the corner of a website... we hope your other versions include lettering alot like your current version. Maybe you can try the baseball / maginfying glass idea...

color edits I like the 2nd color just fine... the first one the yellow looks a bit too mustard-ish... perhaps a variation of that color... just a thought.

Other designers, I gave a few request to edits to the logos currently on this contest, we are down to the final week, I hope this gets a lot of others involved in this project.

Right out of the gates your logo is a front runner.

I love the look! Can we get some variations of colors?

keeping in mind we are going to be a historic site... so nothing too bright and rainbowish...

I am interested in seeing a handful of variations of this current logo..

Simply outstanding!

Also shrink down the logo to the smallest it can go without being distorted..
Example of size variations... I would like to see something big if not bigger than your current version.. plus sizes around this size..

http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=265328&postcount=21

If the baseball swinging player is not noticeable when the logo is small, simply remove him from the icon?
WOW I cant wait!

Try these combos:

Left side
Red: 127
Green: 10
Blue: 7

Right side
Red: 32
Green: 32
Blue: 32
________

Left side
Red: 16
Green: 19
Blue: 152

Red: 32
Green: 32
Blue: 32

Those are Dark red/dark Grey and dark blue/dark grey combos...
Also, we are not against the single color logo like the one you showed in your first entry...

The light color makes the logo somewhat harsh on the eyes...

Any other entries would be welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope to see more!

Freetime,

Can we see the same logo in solid colors?

(taking out the grey)

Also, can we see the logo EVEN SMALLER? I know i know, but we are tryin to see what it would look like as a button... we will be using it in advertising buttons... (you can remove the "research baseball inc" text... shrinking only the "RBi" logo.

Thanks!

___________

Also, I requested a few revamps on some other logos...

Any other entries going to happen soon?

I sure hope so... we have not been totally blown away yet...

Jon, that last one is very nice, a couple edits.

#1, love the "i" it is very crisp looking, but can we get 2 font changes on the "RB"? the current one is a bit too futuristic looking, remember we are offering historic data for our visitors, and want it mess with out site/content.

#2, could you add a magnifying glass to the design in one variation, nhr was onto something with his first concept, and i would like to see that idea in different looking logos. Keeping in mind, once again we are a historic site.. so making it look real, and "vintage" might be the best way to go.

http://www.purdue.edu/hr/images/magnifyingGlass.jpg (http://www.purdue.edu/hr/images/magnifyingGlass.jpg)
http://openclipart.org/cchost/people/TheStructorr/TheStructorr_magnifying_glass.png

notice how the second one is a clip art, but it is realistic looking? not just 2 diminsional... if we used that concept, that is what we are looking for.

Also, dont forget to have the glass covering a portion of the ball to show it's magnifying powers.

;)

I'm not sure what colors you are interested in. Let me know. I think you would be ok with the baseball stitching. We could make less stitching and space them out a little more.

if these colors do not look right, maybe just something similar...

also, the stitches scare me when they are small... any way we could see a variation of the smaller logo with "spaced out threads"

Here are those color revisions. Is a lapel pin the only reason it'll be so small? If that is the case, I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. You would be amazed at what they can do with those things!
