I’m looking for someone to draw a vector image of the following product. The graphic will be used on my site, brochures etc with descriptions coming off of the image to describe its features.

The product description and main image can be found at:
www.digitaldjsllc.com/Jukebox

Additional images can be found at:
http://www.digitaldjsllc.com/ImagePackage/Digital%20Jukebox/

My newest site (not live yet) is located:
www.Shoemaker-Entertainment.com

The lighting system is like this:
http://www.americandj.com/product.asp?ProductIDNumber=275&cat=Hightech

The sound system is like this (x2):
http://www.muzeekworld.com/ev_sx250.jpg

Project Description
I’m looking for something that makes the system look cool, clean, and fun. I want it to look “cartoonish” but real. Give it character. Make it colorful and let it stand out. Add people into the picture using the machine and having fun dancing if you want to get fancy.

Read the site for an idea of what the product does/what it is for. But real quick and dirty description is that it is rented for private parties such as birthdays, graduations, anniversaries or even weddings.

This drawling is needed for a presentation next week. The deadline is April 18th. Please let me know by this Friday if you are planning on submitting. If you have any questions I check my e-mail all day long, let me know if you need anything... Just as you will ask for feedback on your work, feel free to send me some feedback on my project description! :)

Thank you!

I voted "I could, if..." and...

Well, here's my reason - the construction is complex "illustrationwise": in spite of its relative simplicity from the engineering point of view, it has lots of details - that have to be drawn in perspective and it's time-consuming.

So, I would offer you the next deal:
Each of the illustrators that participate in the project draw a sketch (very general sketch - basically to show you the angle) and do a small piece of the sketch in more detailed graphic so that you can see what the finishing would look like. Then you choose the designer you will work with and they'll finish the job for you.

It would require some imagination efforts on your part, but it would draw more designers in, as the amount of job is reasonable against the risk of loosing the project :)

What do you think? :)

AlexKogan,

I agree with you, it has some details to it and I don't want to waste too much of your time creating detailed mock ups.

I will choose the designer based on a "sample" of what they would actually do for me. Just show me the angle you envision and the finish you plan on using. Then we will work to finish it with detail.

This will hopefully spur creativity.

Just another quick note. You don't have to pay too much attention to the exact model to make it perfectly similar. I want something that shows the general features and makes it look good. I tried to have some pictures taken of the system and it didn't have the appeal I was looking for.

I would almost go as far to say that I am looking for a detailed "logo" of the system.

Jay,

Great! Then count me in :)

Anyone else feel like joining? I'm open to suggestions because I need to find the right piece on this one.

My customers look at my current picture and they think it's weird looking. They don't understand what it really looks like. They can't conceptualize it in its home environment (at a party). They also almost always ask me, "does it come with speakers." I can't seem to get a picture of it that really works. I figured a photographer could do it but that would pick up on the system's minor imperfections.

With an illustration, I'm hoping that the system's really important features are obvious. I'd like the viewer to understand that it has an easy music selection process with a touch screen monitor. I want them to know it has tons of music, loud speakers, free music sensitive light show, and I need them to visually see that the system will create the atmosphere for a really great party.

Come on, give it a shot. Join my competition. All you gotta do is show in outline form what you are intending to draw and a sample of the finishing properties of the illustration. I'll consider each and choose one designer to finish up the job - when I find an approach I like.

You in? Add your answer to the poll...

Hey, Jay :)

I've posted a message in the private designers' forum, maybe it'll warm things up :)

I think this one (http://www.digitaldjsllc.com/ImagePackage/Digital%20Jukebox/DSC01089.JPG) is the better photo from the first set of photos.

Do you think you could reduce a little the photos' size - they weight 2Mb each at the moment and take some time downloading even with my 1800+Kbps cable :) Around 100-200Kb per photo would be enough, I think :)

The photo you picked out is the one I like too. I just would like the other speaker in the picture as well.

The photos were taken right from my digital camera and loaded up there as a sample. Unless your going to use them for something other than getting an idea of what it is and how it works I'd rather not have to change the sizes. Are you still browsing them? I imagine you have a pretty good idea by now what it is and how it works.

Hi, I'm in.
This my sketch how will it looks alike :)

Gig,

Thank you for your submission. I’d give it a 6 out of 10. Here is why.

I’d like to see more people at the party, the unit works for up to 150 people and I want to show that clearly. Not to say that I’m looking for 150 people in the illustration but maybe a crowd of silhouettes, or at least a crowd of people to show an exciting party.

Also, I would like to have more people huddled around the unit to make it show the fact that the system is very interactive. Show the fact that the system brings the party together and people collaborate with each other to pick the right song for their mood.

Use neon colors instead of normal colors. For example, use UV purple instead of purple, neon green, neon red. I would like the picture to look high tech, try to keep it out of the 70s style but don’t go into space age either.

The finishing is ok, I’d like it to look a little more realistic but I think that I could deal with what you’ve done… I’ll have to see what else comes up. I’d like to see the lights shine if possible without ruining the cleanliness of the illustration.

Gig, thank you for entering. Please feel free to try again. Anyone else got anything for me? We’ve only got a few more days before the deadline.

Hi thank for feedbacks.
This is my revision. some peoples will added and more in the background in silhouette

for the neon color, I will use the maximum bright neon I can use in illustrator

I think the look won't too hightech but modern enaugh as a vector art render, also won't more realistic because this is the strenght of vector art render

the front people more detail than people in the background but still in the dark tone and have some highlight

Gig,

Nice fixes. That definately added some flair.

The only other thing I would like to point out to you and to anyone else who plans on submiting a drawling is to try and make the general color of the room blue. Try to make it so that it would look nice on my website (linked above).

Thank you,
Jay

Gig,

Your right, it won't look much more high tech. I'm okay with what you've done. I would like to see one maybe two more takes on the idea in order to have some things to base my decision on.

Thanks,
Jay

Jay, thank you for feedback.

Yes I agree to make it blue room. It would be done when we execute this.

JayShoe

Gig, that is understood.

There were two more who indicated interest in this post. I am very interested to see another take on this idea.

The deadline is this Wednesday. However, I wanted to be clear that the final rendering will be due Friday morning for the presentation. If this is going to be a problem we might need to shorten the deadline to Tuesday. Please let me know if that is the case.

Thank you,
Jay

Alex, thank you for the submission. It is nice overall. I don't know if I like the angle as much as the straight angle and it would be nice if there were some people using the unit...

Gig,How long would it take to finish up your drawling? I like what you have done, I wanted to see more submissions but I'm getting nervous that I won't get it in time for the presentation.
The one thing I'm most worried about your drawling is that it might turn out a bit childish. I'm leaning towards going with your drawling but can we try to make it least childish as possible?
Please let me know if I should shorten the deadline or if you can finish up the drawling in time if we wait another day.
Thank you,
Jay Shoemaker
=================

Hi Jay,
I can finish up in 1 day (wednesday) and 1day more (thursaday) for revision, as we are in the opposite of the earth, we have different time.

Which one do you mean with childish. I think we do some detail when execution. I need you to choose me first as designer before we finished the artwork. I think my sketch is resampling my finished artwork

Ok, it is 7:00 an I haven't heard anything from anyone.

Alex, you did a wonderful job and I might contact you in the future to have you finish that up a bit. I like the look of it. Thank you for your submission.

Gig, Congratulations I'm going to go with your design because it was the most complete. Whenever your ready, please let me know.

Thank you,
Jay

Hi Jay, this is the preview of the vector. The only touch screen, I use an image from your picture.

You may ask for one more dancing people in it, male / female? The dancing people is most time consuming to redraw in vector. Dou you want "he / she" touch the screen too?

Gig,

You did a great job. I appreciate the fact that it is modern, it's exciting, and it portrays a "club" like feel. You've really got some talent.

I have a few requests. The unit and especially the speakers are a little dark and on the dark background they don't show up easily. The unit is not really bad at all, but I would like the speakers to be obvious.

The girl on the right: her dress is a little short and she's dancing by herself in a weird place. You might want to add another dancer (male dancer), or move her to another location.

I don't see anything other than that.

Jay

JayShoe

I would prefer another male dancer, instead of moving her if you don't mind.

I just noticed another problem with the dark room (specifically the floor). Things don't show up very well when printed in black and white.

JayShoe

Even with color - It's a little dark... :-)

Hi Jay, thanks for some feedback. Here I changes :
- Add one male dancer
- add more color effeck in speaker & the jukebox
- add more color effect in disco light
- make the floor brighter a bit

For this AI file, you only perform with AI 9+ beacause of some effect like transparent. What AI version do you used?

JayShoe

Gig,

Nice job. The extra dancer fixed my worries about the scene. The lighting additions added even more to the atmosphere. Thank you.

Final Revisions: The speakers are still hidden too much. The reason I'm picky about the speakers is because people need to know that the system comes with them, or they won't completely understand what my service does. I really need that feature to be obvious.

I think you could get away with making the entire floor even brighter. Even the top layer of the silhouettes can be lightened up so that the people, the unit, and the speakers aren't "hidden" in the darkness.

After the speakers are more obvious, I believe we will have a final product. I'll let the administrators know when i have received the vector.

Thank you!

Gig, I just got your message.... Lighten up the floor and sillouettes a little more and I'll be back in a short while to let them know to release payment. I hope that is okay.

Hi, this is the small version of final revise.

I sent a private message the large version.

JayShoe
04-19-2007, 10:38 AM
Gig, I like what you did. It might be a little too light now, and I don't know if I like the speakers being colored like that. However, I'm assuming that I can do the minor changes now??? Can you just remove the colors on the speakers and send me a vector? I'll adjust the color of the floor and silhouettes.

JayShoe
04-19-2007, 10:40 AM
I would like it if they were just lit up like that not colored though. Anyway - let me play with it. I'm sure I can get it to my likings easier than having you do the simple changes. I have Illustrator 10... Trying to get CS2 but not yet.

gig

ok I will send you the vector soon.
Yes you can do the minor changes.
please wait..

Hi Jay, file sent :). I hope there is no problem when you open with AI10

good luck

Thank you gig, you did an awesome job! I didn't get it to open in illustrator yet, can you save it as Illustrator 10 and resend?

ADMINISTRATORS: You may pay gig his prize money, the files I need have been received.
