Hi,
Having just had my new logo for my Kids Photography brand designed here, I now need to get some stationary sorted.
The Double Sided Business Card should contain the following information:
My Name: Yvonne Blume
My Title: Photographer (not sure this is needed - am flexible about this)
My company logo (enclosed)
Telephone number: +44 (0) xxxx xxx xxx
Fax +44 (0) xx xxxx xxxx
email: xxxxxx@ybpkids.com
website: www.ybpkids.com
I am also torn as to whether or not I should have an image or several images on the card - given that it's a photography company. Maybe one side with image/s maybe the other with the data? No images? Don't know - open to suggestions.
For the Letterheaded there needs to be a small note somewhere that says:
"YBP KIDS is a brand of YBPHOTOGRAPHIC LTD. (all caps on that), company number: xxxxxx"
This is not necessary for the compliment slip.
The address format for the UK addess is:
12 Neverland Avenue
London WW3 7AA
(actual address to be supplied on completion)
That's it really - I have designed any previous stationary myself and it has always been clean and simple, which is my preference. However, I'd like something that is well laid out. I spent a lot of time thinking about the logo, and I am very happy with it. It really represents what the company should be about -fun, kids, but still upmarket.
I look forward to your suggestions.
Thanks,
Yvonne

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for going first!!
My thoughts.. it's not bad, but I'm not really loving it.
I generally like the idea of the front... not so crazy about the layout on the back, although I do like the heads in the background...
No address details on the business card please.
Overall, there is a bit too much purple for me.
there is a second image, I think you were planning to attach, but I can't see it. It's a red x in a box.
Not a bad start though, and again, thanks for going first.
For everyone's information:
I'm away till Sunday now, but I look forward to seeing some other ideas when I get back.
cheers, Yvonne

Hello, Yvonne;
Attached is a layout for your letterhead sheet and two-sided business cards.
To answer your question concerning whether or not to include photos, I would highly recommend it. Your images of children capture a wide range of moods and expressions, and I would let the "pictures [speak] 1,000 words" for themselves.
The use of the three images could also be easily applied to other parts of your branding, such as your web pages, invoices, note cards, etc.

Thank you SO much, everyone, for your contributions!
There is some REALLY fun stuff here!
Cem, nothing wrong with the design, but it doesn't really jump out at me either, sorry.
Sweetie, congratulations on your first attempt - I think it lacks the "design" element though, and the oval photo arrangement doesn't really represented the stylish and modern feel that my company tries to get across.
Jessica - again, nothing really wrong with it, but nothing super interesting about it either. Again, missing a bit of the design element, I feel.
Which leaves artboy, Fran and Imot.
I agree that using the images is a good idea.
IMOT: I liked the swirls, and I love the little heads poking up at the bottom.. the letterhead doesn't contain the address information it needs and I feel that the photograph space would only work with very specific images... but I do like the bottom bordering a lot and it's a good place for the "part of YBP brand" comment aswell..
Artboy34: I like this too. I don't think that the photographs on the letterhead work too well, as I think they are too contrasty to the printed type in colour tone and quality (and this will always be the problem no matter what photographs I use), but I like them on the business card, and it sort of ties in with some previous printed material I've used... still thinking about this.
Fran: Right now, this is my favourite! I LOVE the way the heads are poking in on the edges. and I think it works well with the image too.
Again, at the moment the letterhead is missing any address information.. How would you lay out all the contact information with the address included, so that it doesn't get so crowded?
Also, in terms of the design files I get with this sort of job. I guess I would be able to change the image on the card myself? Would I be able to change the "blue" banner myself to, for example the purple for cards with a girl photo on them?
At the moment, this is very much my favourite, although I also do like the other ones...
A question for everyone.. not having commissioned one of these packages before... I am guessing that the horizontal images I am seeing are the envellopes and not the compliment slips, right? So I presume that the compliment slip would be identical to the letterhead just with a lot of the "white space" missing in the middle and "With Compliments" written on them somewhere? That correct?
Once again, thank you everyone so much for your contributions - I look forward to response to the question I have and any revisions anyone would like to present (or even any further new ideas people wish to submit) and will go away and have a bit more of a think too.
Cheers, Yvonne
Hi Yvonne,
Thank you for the feedback, here are the revisions :)

Yes, you can edit everything
Thank you for the feedback.
You could change the image yourself with Photoshop from a psd file with layers.
Also I realized that you are in the UK, so the right size for the letterhead I suppose is A4 format, could you confirm that?
Thank you
Fran :)

Thanks IMOT and Fran.
Yes, A4 is our standard letterhead, and a compliment slip is 1/3 of A4.
I REALLY like both of your designs and I'm having a very hard time deciding... so I'm going to go around getting a few more opinions from others - I need to be sure I'm making the right call. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Many thanks, Yvonne.

Sorry I haven't been able to get this to you sooner; I'm having sign-in and permission issues with these forums.
That said, I've replaced the color photos on the A4 and compliments slip with screened back monotones using your PANTONE® logo colors. Though I agree that the full-color photos overwhelmed the original designs somewhat, I do feel strongly that your images as a photographer belong on your identity pieces.
For continuity, I could make the case for doing the same with the photos on the business cards, but these images are just asking to be printed wherever possible!
I await your review.

Thank you artboy.
Gosh, I like this too!!! It's made it even harder now to make a decision.
Everyone, I'm very sorry to keep you hanging on. It's really just so close. I like all three now. I ran a poll for the first two amongst my fellow photographers, and out of 20 odd people, it was an even split!!
Everyone was very impressed with the quality of the work!
And now I have one more to think about.
I'm afraid, I'll have to take a bit more time. I like elements from all of them, and there is no outright winner at the moment.
I'll have to think some more.
IMOT and Artboy.. could you please show me a vertical business card? Thanks.
Many thanks, Yvonne
Hi,
Here is a vertical business card version.

Hi Guys..
Thank you for the revisions where requested.
This week is decision week and I'm still really struggling. I like parts of all of your work but each has something that doesn't work for me. If I could take elements from all 3 and turn it into 1, that would be perfect.
So here's what I like and don't like:
Fran - initially your layout was by far my favourite. I think the header design is the best distributed, and I really love the business cards, and I also really liked the little heads on the bottom of the letterheads, peeking around the corner.
However, the feedback I have received is that the bottom bar is too heavy and the blue is to dominant and too boyish.
Augustin, your design won the most votes amongst my peers as the green keeps it light and the bottom bar is not overpowering, plus people like the kids heads peeping over the "wall"..
On the negative side, I think that the logo in the header is too small and that the rest of the company information seems a bit too squashed together. I think the sizing on the envellope is much better than on the comp slip and letterhead.
My main problem is, though, that I don't really like your business card. I thought seeing it vertically would help, but really, there's just too much going on, plus I think that between my logo, my name on the card, and the business details, there are too many fonts at work.
And finally Marty, I really like your multi-coloured stripes with one being heavier than the others - I think that works REALLY well. I'm still not convinced about the photos on the letterhead, although they are much better this way than in colour. I also think that the YBPKIDS.com part on the letterhead is too fat.
I DO however, like the business card layout a lot.
So there it is folks. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to come back with proper feedback, but I was really struggling to identify what I like about each design and what I don't... as you can see, I like parts of all.
If you have any further suggestions that might help me make my decision, I look forward to reading them.
Also, you should know that my colleagues have been extremely impressed by the overall quality of the designs on offer. Well done guys and many thanks.
Cheers, Yvonne

Great feedback, Yvonne! Thanks!
Here's the revised design – I put the type on a "diet" and made the photos a little less obtrusive.
And thanks for passing along the compliments of your associates. I would agree with them that these designs are all done well.
Thanks,
Marty

Ok, so here it is.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH to everyone for their submissions and revisions.
As you know I've struggled with making a decision, but the final set of revisions really helped.
The winner is Fran's final design in message 20. Congratulations!
Fran, I would still like to see some minor revisions - Please could we just have one head at the bottom, keep the one in the right hand corner and can we make it about half as pale as it is now.
Also, once the left head is gone, please can we left justify the footer on the letterhead, and the With Compliment? It just feels like everything is left justified, and it feels incongruous that the footer is not.
Many thanks, and I'll see you in the revisions forum.
All the best,
Yvonne
I'll be back with more corporate ID stuff for my other brand soon.

Yup, that's it, thank you. We're all done.
Hello,
I'm preparing the final files; could you give me the actual details for address and telephone or could you insert them yourself? Also for the cards, do you send me the high resolution image you choose for or do I send you the file with levels and then you isert the picture?
Please let me know how you prefer and which format (Photoshop or Illustrator) would you like I send you.
Thank you very much
:) Fran

Hi Fran,
The address is:
50 Barcombe Avenue
London SW2 3AZ
Telephone +44 (0) 7771 712 842
Fax +44 (0) 20 8678 0223
Company number: 05234445
For the business card, please can I have a layered PSD file so that I can add my own images as they will change regularly, and also, please can I have both the vertical and the horizontal card (as shown in the first pack) again, so I have a choice between horizontal and vertical images.
Photoshop is my preferred software, please. I do have Illustrator but I'm not really familiar with it.
And please remember that the letterhead is based on A4 with the comp slip being 1/3 of A4 (you may already have done that, but I can't tell..)
Also can you tell me what the font is you used for the type, please?
Many thanks,
Yvonne
Hello,
I sent you a Private Message with the link to files.
