Hello most excellent logo designers! You’re competing to design a much needed overhaul of my current photography company logo. Hopefully the information below will help point you in the right direction.
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
John Riedy Photography is a must. My current logo uses the JR of my name and I’m definitely open to designs with this again, but I’m also open to graphic elements. Also consider using lower case versions of the “jr”. There are definitely some cool possibilities with lowercase.
What type of product or service do you offer? Predominantly I’m a wedding photographer, but I also advertise my portrait photography on my website. This logo should be non-specific (ie. not just wedding photography). My company is definitely a boutique company with a limit of about 25-30 weddings a year. I am the only shooter and my clients expect top quality one on one service.
How long have you been in business? Almost nine years.
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity? I hope to establish a higher end feel to my logo/branding that is in line with the high end clientele that I have as clients. I shoot weddings all over the world (though majority in San Diego) including Ireland, Belize, St. Thomas, Cabo, and all over the US. Many of my clients will spend upwards to $10-$12k on their wedding photography.
What are your long term goals? I wish to keep building my name in the wedding industry and raising my rates as well. Within 3 years I want my average wedding sale in the $10-$12k range (my current AVERAGE is around $7k). I also wish to expand my portrait business.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer? 5/15 please.
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience – My audience are couples planning a wedding within the next year. They probably spend $75k-$150k on their whole wedding. Their parents are often paying the bill. They are college educated (often more) and enjoy the finer things. They drive BMW/Mercedes and shop at boutique stores. Their dresses are designer dresses, never off the rack.
Who would you like to add to your audience? Bill Gates, Trump, etc., okay, more of the same really, but I want them to be willing to pay more.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like? I would like a clean, fresh, logo that says “high end” without being too obvious. As I mentioned above, I am open to anything, but I would definitely like to consider using my initials “jr” in a graphic design
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?) If you look at my current logo you’ll see that it is a sort of “burnt sienna” color. I’m open to using that again, but I’m also open to new colors. I don’t see super strong saturated colors as being appropriate.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo? Not really, photographic elements could be cool, but I think it’s hard to incorporate them without seeming cheesy. I don’t want ANYTHING that says cheesy.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
High end, clean, fresh, non-tradtional wedding photography with a high-fashion edge.
What is your tagline or slogan?
Every picture tells a story. I’m debating still using it, but it does reflect my photojournalistic shooting style.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
See above. Please have a look at my website bio to get a little more insight into who I am at www.johnriedy.com.
Where will your new logo be used? Website… www.johnriedy.com
Pricing guide, business card, portfolio prints, etc.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
List competitive URLs if possible

What sets you apart from your competitors?
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Fresh story-telling wedding photography.
Good luck! I look forward to your amazing designs!
