Hi Everyone,
I have been reading the forums here for a few days and have been very impressed with the results that have turned out! :)
Now I need a new template for a client of mine 3C Book Supplies.
Heres a bit about them:
Company Name: 3C Book Supplies
Company profile:3C book supplies providing Norfolk and Suffolk with books of all nature for 25 years. We sell paper back, maps, videos, local interest books and maps, specialist hard backs, bargain hard backs, childrens reading and activities, salmons publications postcards, recipes, broads books, and camera films.
Domain name: www.3cbooksupplies.co.uk & www.3cbooksupplies.com
What is the scope of this project? New site
Who is the intended audience? 30+ possibly people planning holidays but quite a wide ranging demographic.
Mood or tone? Something professional looking, not too cutting edge as we have many local interest items. Something more "homely" and unobtrusive. Thinking light colours - plenty of white space. Their corporate colours are blue and white as in the logo supplied but the finished design does not need to be these colours - just be creative to the max and I'll tell you if I don't like it! ;)
Any dynamic elements? This site is going to be the front-end of an Oscommerce store (see http://www.oscommerce.com & http://www.oscommerce.com/osCommerce22ms2/ for more details) therefore it will need to incorporate some of the features from there. But do not feel that you need to keep to the oscommerce layout and, in fact, I would prefer if you didn't. I know enough php to be able to modify the backend to anything that you create! The finished design will need buttons/links to "My Account", "View cart", "Checkout", "Home", "Search", "Sign in". It will need a box/area for the shopping cart contents, and possibly a box for categories although I am not sure if I want it like oscommerce - may be better to split things into categories along the top similar to Amazon but this is your choice. Also need links/buttons for "Shipping Information", "Privacy notice", "conditions of use", "Contact us", "About us" displayed somewhere on the page. May also need a link for forums but this is not required.
What resources can you provide? I have their logo which I will attach below. Its not a great scan but I hope to trace it with illustrator anyway so just use it for illustration purposes. As soon as I trace it I can post the .AI file up here if needed. The maps they sell are from www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk so you can get an idea of them from there. Also some information about the 'local area' which is the subject for a number of their books:
The area in which they are based is known as the Norfolk Broads in England. Heres a bit of info I took from http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/broads/indexie.html
The Norfolk and Suffolk Broads is a unique area of water, grazing marshes, fen and woodland, and home to some of the rarest plants and creatures in the UK. It is Britain's largest protected wetland, having similar status to a national park.
Therefore any design will need to take that into account and may use aspects of it as the basis of their design. I suggest that you take a look at that Norfolk Broads link to get a "feel" for the area as this will help you to create a winning design!
Websites you like? I like www.amazon.com for its simple ease of use - its a pure selling site. We want to get a local/country feel for the site and I haven't stumbled upon any sites like this. I prefer the designers here to take a look at the brief and see what they can come up with!
Deadline: I have no official deadline but I would like to have designs finalised by the end of September. If this is too soon let me know and I will work around extending it.
Feedback: I will be checking this forum regularly to provide feedback based on my opinion but as the site will be delivered to a third-party I will need to show them, get their feedback, and then post the response here. There may be a slight delay in this but I will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible and will give feedback for all designs before settling on a winner.
Delivered format: I will need the finished template in a layered (not flattened) .PSD or .AI file and any obscure fonts to be included in the package.
If you have any further questions or if I have forgotten something (which is likely :P ) please just post up a message here. Thats about it - let the games begin! Winning designer gets $300 USD. Good luck everyone! :)
